This is the hottest console on the market right now. But is it worth it?

When future generations of gamers talk about a massive PR debacle in the video game industry, this will probably be one of the examples that come first.

All console manufacturers have had their issues with any console release, but Nintendo wins the award this year.

"According to venturebeat, it was probably not Nintendo’s goal to cause such distress to honest customers by intentionally limiting stocks, but it is likely they didn't predict the demand correctly."

What are you talking about? It's a LIMITED EDITION. Do you not understand what limited means? It was never supposed to meet consumer demand.

You can't blame Nintendo for scalpers either. This happens with every product.

I saw an article from Kotaku a few days ago theorizing that the low stock isn't intentional and is instead a result of the west coast being shut down because of the harbor union protests. As the article pointed out, it would explain why Europe and Japan were able to have a healthy supply available on launch. Nintendo refused to respond. If true, I guess that's the drawback to having everything made in China :/

Most limited editions aren't all that limited. You can still find the ALBW LEs on sale below MSRP.

"It's a LIMITED EDITION."

Apparently, so is that Gamecube adapter for the Wii U.

Limited Edition stock should last more than 10 minutes.

At the very least, there should have been enough for a week or two.

"You can't blame Nintendo for scalpers either. This happens with every product."

Nintendo is famous for underproducing popular items, and this does not happen this aggressively with other products as it does for Nintendo products, mostly because Nintendo is allergic to money and refuses to supply the demand of consumers properly.

I started to come back to Nintendo products a few years ago, and over that course, no other company has provided me with such annoyance and disappointment at trying to buy their products. Many of their most popular games (old games as well) are still overpriced compared to other games, are hard to find in stores and must be ordered online, and are sometimes flat out unavailable for purchase anywhere but from scalpers.

GameCube adapters, amiibo (retailer, instore exclusive amiibos with no plans to produce any more in the future despite demand), limited edition 3ds XLs most notably the Majora's Mask one, game shortages for certain titles. I find it very hard to believe Nintendo aren't the ones primarily at fault here.

They underproduce products and create artificial shortages so that they can convince the public that their products are in demand and highly sought after.

Defend Nintendo all you like, it doesn't change the fact these are problems, problems that can be easily fixed, but won't because Nintendo has some backwards ass ideas on how things work (don't even get me started on their stubborness to make even a few baby steps out of the present and into the past).

To save everyone the trouble

It's the MM New 3DS XL

Thanks, have a helpful bubble. Between them not mentioning the console in the title or except, and what porkchop quotes above, I had no desire to give the site a click.

A round of "helpful" bubbles for this man.

I was really excited when they announced it back then but I was really hoping the finished product would have been this instead.

Too bad they opted out for the gold one. I'm not saying the gold one is horrible, but I kinda wished they went with the color theme.

Why Indie Games Fail To Keep Their Place In The Spotlight

A look into the sad trajectory of indie games from high successful releases to complete irrelevancy in just a few weeks or months.

shaenoide2d ago

Easy not enough developpers to add content to the game (palworld)

Profchaos2d ago

That's the thing with gaming there's always new experiences to have why spend months or years playing a single game when there's a new experience right around the corner.

Indie or AAA if your building your game expecting long term player counts you'll probably be disappointed as gamers often enjoy something for a few weeks and move on only to return if it's truely a classic.

Out of all the generations I've experienced there's games from 30 plus years ago I still dust off and play like super Mario bros, earthbound, vice city and san Andreas being games I treasure and revisit every few years but I'm not going back to play a game designed to keep me engaged for months on end because it's also designed to milk my wallet in most cases.

Build a great game that people love make it playable offline and ask does it matter if the concurrent player count is under 100 a year post launch more often that not it doesn't

P_Bomb2d ago

The price of entry is too high to take chances like I used to. Was looking at V Rising and that ranges from $50-$130 CAD. That’s a lot for an indie imo. By the time it goes on sale, the player count might be dwindling. But that’s the trade-off, I guess.

Si-Fly2d ago

I’m glad my preference is single player experiences, Indie devs got me covered 👊🏻
