1UP Review: Schizoid

Reviewed by Anthony Gallegos, he writes:

"I don't like to be a backseat game designer, but the entire time I spent with Schizoid, I kept thinking, "If only this were different...it would've been so much better." Touted as "the most co-op game ever" -- an incredibly deceiving statement, as it should be something closer to "the most unfriendly solo game ever" -- Schizoid has a lot to live up to. It's certainly different, but not for its outstanding co-op play. It may look a helluva lot like Geometry Wars, but you don't do any shooting in Schizoid. Instead, players operate a blue or orange ship (or both, depending on the mode) that can kill similarly colored enemies by running into them -- but loses a life if it hits a different color. This basic setup is used in conjunction with an array of different enemies and scenarios to create over 100 levels...that all too often feel like rehashes of earlier stages."

Wasn't very impressed but I'm proly gonna take another gander when i have the time. I'm a Geometry Wars addict so this is kinda up my alley but the pace seemed a little slow... course if you're contrlling both ships it might be Goldylocks. The demo itself was really damn annoying in between the lvls when it was trying to give you instructions. Just not a good interface.

>I'll proly save my points til they put another GeoWars out...

Jamie Fristrom’s Swingin’ Career, From Spider-Man to Energy Hook: An Interview

Warp Zoned writes:

"Jamie Fristrom is a name that you might not be familiar with, but you’ve certainly experienced his work. In 1996, Fristrom became part of the original team at Treyarch and had a hand in many of their earliest hits. But his biggest claim to fame is the creation of the webslinging engine found in Spider-Man 2 (and used in nearly every Spider-Man game since). In that dark period between GoldenEye 007 and Batman: Arkham Asylum, Fristrom’s work on Spider-Man 2 proved that licensed games could still be fun.

After his days at Treyarch ended, he went the indie route and created the acclaimed XBLA game Schizoid and founded his own one-man-studio, Happion Labs. His first game under the Happion Labs banner will be Energy Hook, a game that attempts to recapture the fun we all found in aimlessly webslinging around Manhattan.

Fristrom is readying a Kickstarter campaign to help fund the game, which will likely launch in a few weeks. In the meantime, I had a chance to talk to him about his career so far and where he plans to take it with Energy Hook."
