If you're a video game fan born sometime between 1970 and the early 1990s, there's a fair chance you played Sonic games when you were a kid or a young adult.
Sonic was a 1990s superstar, an icon in an age of rapid progress and speed.
But today's kids couldn't give a stuff about Sega's most famous mascot, as evidenced by the company's most recent financial results, announced earlier today. Sonic Boom for 3DS and Wii U sold fewer than half a million units, combined.
Alex DS. from Link Cable Gaming writes: "I’m a huge fan of the series and love to talk about its best games… but its hard to argue that it’s all been great for the blue blur. From games that were loaded with glitches, slow-paced gameplay, and visuals that look more like a blue blur of… pixels and polygons. So, take this as a warning to avoid these 10 worst Sonic games of all time."
Never played any of these on this list, surprised Sonic R isn't there, but then i played that on my first PC and didn't think it was that bad, got some mild enjoyment out of it at least.
Lost World, Black Knight, Forces and Chronicles should not be on that list, I can easily think of worse.
Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal, Sonic Drift, Sonic Drift 2, Sonic Labyrinth, Sonic Eraser, Sonic R, these are all way worse than the games on this list. Knuckles Chaotix was terrible as well, I hated the way you had to control the players, it was a pain in the ass. Even games like Sonic 3D Blast, Sonic Spinball and Rivals 1 and 2 which I thought were decent were worse than some of the games on this list.
To be brutally honest, most of the Game Gear and Master System Sonic games are pretty awful too. Sonic Chaos on the Game Gear for example, you can't even see what you are doing because the field of view is so bad.
I would rather play Sonic 06 than any of the games I listed above, and that game is classed as the worst Sonic game of the lot.
People have nostalgia glasses on when they think about old 2D Sonic games. Outside of the mainline games on the Mega Drive, most of them were worse than the modern day 3D games.
There is definitely some worse games than Lost World,
The guy who wrote this definitely didn't dig enough into the franchise history haha
General question.
Is your favorite Sonic game the first one you played?
If not, is you favorite the same style as your first? (3D, 2D, some other distinction?)
I disagree with Sonic Forces on that list but the others are correct.
Sonic Forces is hella under rated.
With Nintendo Switch doing better by the day, Screen Critics looks back at the absolute worst of third party games from Wii U.
Article says it's about third party Wii U games, yet Animal Crossing: Amiibo Festival & Pokemon Rumble U are on this list.
one of the worst Wii U games I've ever played was Deus Ex. It's not by any means a terrible game, but the Wii U port was a massive disappointment with a weird control scheme and an abysmal framerate of like 20fps at best.
It's crazy how hard Devil's Third tanked. Don't think Itagaki's going to really recover from that one.
These villains are so bad…and not in a good way. Join WatchMojo as they countdown their picks for the Top 10 Worst Villains In Video Games.
Today's kids and adult fans of Sonic hate him right now because his games suck. Poor guy. He and Spyro are being handled improperly. Sonic games in the past were damn amazing.
Because many of his games nowadays suck. This new generation won't like sonic because there are no good games for them to look back on. If sonic does not start putting out good games constantly then his fanbase will die off. For Mario, the kids of the older generation had Mario bros 3, the new generation has the galaxy games and 3d world which are amazing games. What does sonic have that will bring in new fans?
Because of no more chili dog jokes... What?! I liked those!
On a serious note, it shouldn't even be a question, there's too many good games out there for all ages that justify a child's fondness or dedication to them. Recent Sonic games are not within those. Besides, he doesn't seem to have as much of an "attitude" nowadays... I think that's part of the charm that got other generations into Sonic games.
The only Sonic game I really enjoyed was Sonic Adventure on Dreamcast, that was a fun game...
"Why can't Sega recapture Sonic's old magic?" should be the question.
