Microsoft Bringing the Big Xbox Guns at GDC 2015 According to Newly Published Exhibitor Map

GDC 2015 is approaching fast, and apparently Microsoft is bringing the big guns to bear at the developer-oriented trade show. Not only the house of Xbox and Windows has an unprecedented number of sponsored panels, but it also secured the biggest booth in the expo area, plus one of the biggest ones in the business area.

6,600 sq feet vs 4,800 sq feet

DarkOcelet3387d ago

Bigger isn't always better. Just sayin :)

OC_MurphysLaw3387d ago

Yes it is true that bigger isn't better in some cases. I will also add that if there was some other company name inserted in this article that Mr. DarkOcelet's tune would be changed.

DarkOcelet3387d ago (Edited 3387d ago )

@Dlacy13g

I love games in general and i have stated many times i am not a damn fanboy but some of you just keep saying that i am.

I loved and enjoyed Gears of War trilogy and would love to see how things will change with Gears IV

I loved Forza 3/4/FH1 and FH2 and am pretty excited to see how F6 will be like after they improved the X1

I loved Alan Wake and cant wait to see how Quantum Break will be like

I had an Xbox360 before i had a PS3

But i am more excited about PS4 exclusives more than i am about the Xboxone at the moment but does that make me a fanboy? Unfortunately to some people thinking, the answer is Yes. But i am telling you i am not.

Do i seriously have to explain myself every time i comment on an Xbox article :/ .

PoSTedUP3387d ago

MS is going to need the big guns at every major event this year to gain even a small portion of the market share sony will earn.

im a damn fanboy.

Rimeskeem3387d ago

I know. Just putting the math there so people know

OC_MurphysLaw3387d ago

@DarkOcelet no you certainly don't need to explain yourself every time you comment, or at least I don't think you do. You can just let your comments speak for you as I would assume they would given they are your words.

I thought your comment pretty clearly stated your thoughts and that you are not easily impressed by MS's booth presence at GDC. I simply made the observation that I was pretty sure you would be excited had that news been about Sony having the biggest booth. And your comments about being more excited about Playstation these days seemingly backs that up.

Its OK to have a preference...I do, and I know you do too. Just as long as we don't let preference get in the way of recognizing good games, ideas, devices, etc... Its all good friend.

Cheers and happy gaming

DarkOcelet3387d ago

@Dlacy13g

Mate, if only the N4G community were cool like you, it would have been awesome. But its a shame its not. Looking forward to see what both MS and Sony has to offer. Haters are gonna hate but i don't care. As long as gamers are getting good things then everything is awesome.

miyamoto3387d ago (Edited 3387d ago )

"Bigger isn't always better. "

So true since:

M$ $300B company vs Sony a $20B company

yet PlayStation always beat the Xbox each and every generation they compete since PS2 vs Xbox, PS3 vs Xbox 360 and now PS4 vs Xbox One.

Tells that something is really wrong going on inside the Xbox division.

medman3387d ago (Edited 3387d ago )

Microsoft always has the biggest booth....how is this newsworthy? Bring the games and shut up. Way too much telling, not nearly enough showing going on this gen, from all parties.

ilikepizza3387d ago

Someone tell miyamoto that the Xbox 360 actually outsold and is outselling the ps3 WORLDWIDE,and even outsold the Wii in the united states. Not bad at all for a console that had less than a 30% market share in its 1st attempt. The Xbox one will win the united states again which is all you really need to be profitable,Sony will have a world wide lead with the gap closing sometime in early 2017 when Sony fails to deliver anything since uncharted 4 in fall of 2015.

LexHazard793387d ago

Ok, if it was Playstation you would be gushing with praise for it. Lol. Just saying. .

LexHazard793387d ago

@Dark, you dont have to say anything. People have made up their minds about you. I just want to k ow if youve made the jump to next gen. I mean I would hate to think you waste all your time on next gen threads and dont have one. Are there no gamers on xbox 360/PS3 formums?

frankdrebin723387d ago

Remember that when people quote the amount of sales, indies, exclusives etc etc.

AngelicIceDiamond3387d ago (Edited 3387d ago )

@Dark You unintentionally (or maybe intentionally) brought in Sony fanboys with your first comment.

That's really whats upsetting your comment brought in the poison.

You seem to affiliate with PS4 which is great but naturally you attracted germs parasites which infected the comments here.

Now Sony fans will say "Xbox fan boys are the worst" despite the fact a comment like yours caused them to retaliate.

(sigh) great.. you really need to think before making comments on Xbox related stuff.

I'm all for opinions thats all fine but if you were truly not a fanboy you really wouldn't of made that sort of comment.

MasterCornholio3387d ago (Edited 3387d ago )

Reminds me of what Austins Powers fasha said.

"Its not the size that matters its how you use it"

:)

I guess we have to wait until GDC to find out.

slasaru013387d ago

In this case it means they have something to show.

Volkama3387d ago

@DarkOcelet "As long as gamers are getting good things then everything is awesome."

FFS man, what you just said is a worse crime than being a fanboy. Now I have the Lego Movie song in my head.

avengers19783386d ago (Edited 3386d ago )

@ ilikepizza You should probably look that up. if anything 360 and PS3 are even but last time I checked PS3 is slightly ahead of 360 in worldwide sales.

PS3 84.8 million worldwide
360 84.5 million worldwide

PS3 continues to outsell 360 worldwide every month.

avengers19783386d ago

Dark, assumptions made from a floor layout.... Thats a stretch..... It is getting ridiculous.... I went into the link expecting to read about something exciting.... Some possible great news.... But a floor layout.....

DarkOcelet3387d ago

You can simply move along and not read the article if you are not interested. What was the point of your comment lol?

Deadlead3387d ago (Edited 3387d ago )

Guns... I was hoping for games, maybe next time. Jk of course, looking forward to what MS has to reveal. Official Crackdown/QB release date perhaps? With trailers to accompany said announcements.

NuggetsOfGod3386d ago (Edited 3386d ago )

Man even when sony is winning sony loyalists are still crying salty tears?

Sad corporate slave idiots..

I hope ms reveal more cross play games.
Please show how to navigate Windows with hololens!

The difference between having marked as trolling or bubbled up for Funny comment is really minimal. I honestly think this comment is funny but at the same time i know you are trolling and i know you will get marked for trolling.

But still this is a funny comment. Some of those comments really crack me up sometimes :D

Microsoft is getting their groove back. Xbox is doing better than Ever. Windows 10 is going to trump Windows 7. Surface Pro 3 is getting Stellar reviews and it has the sales to show it. We'll see some High-End Lumias running Windows 10 this year as well. And we might see a Surface Mini this year as well.

Good year to be a Microsoft fan.

christocolus3387d ago (Edited 3387d ago )

Good year indeed. my brother got a surface tab and im considering buying a windows phone myself. MS is back in the game and Nadella is doing great things. he is investing in the right things and MS will once again become pioneers. even investors are happy with the guy.

you should read this article titled "One year on, Satya Nadella has made Microsoft 'a different company"

http://www.businessinsider....

TheRedButterfly3386d ago

@1.5.1

I've got a Windows Phone and have for about a year. First smartphone I've ever had. I absolutely LOVE it! -- That being said, the app-support is garbage. Instagram is still in beta for crying out loud. Snapchat has no official client, and it's new ToS restrict users from using third-party apps.

Basically, if you want an incredibly smooth, incredibly personalized UI/experience, this is the phone for you! If you want app support, this is the only phone you don't want.

rainslacker3386d ago

I have a windows phone. Got it free from MS a few years ago. I really like it despite not ever updating to the newer versions of the OS which are actually better.

Some of the newer ones are really nice. It lacks some support from some websites in the browser, but the app support is increasing a lot compared to just a year ago.

I'm in the market for a new phone soon, and I'll probably just get another one. I feel it's one of the few things they've done right in the past few years.

UKmilitia3387d ago

with the xb1 being 3 times the size of the ps4 they will need more room.
jk

on serious note i expect they will be having kinect and maybe hololens?
plus windows and xb1 streaming or soemthing maybe

pivotplease3386d ago (Edited 3386d ago )

Wondering if megatons are inbound. Wouldn't be a bad idea. I feel like we have a decent idea of Sony and Nintendo's plans this year (at least for the first half), but it would be nice to see what MS is going to be putting out later this year before the other companies since the other two already have a few games being put out early on.

Edit: Wow my comment somehow feels redundant near the end lol.

Good to know. Colour me interested.

Manic20143387d ago (Edited 3387d ago )

I hope they give more details on how Hololens will impact Xbox One. Can't wait!

Outthink_The_Room3387d ago (Edited 3387d ago )

I don't think Hololens will be the only solution for the XB1. I think there will be a version that uses compatibility with the Kinect for motion sensing.

That's one of the problems Oculus is facing with depth sensing. Kinect would alleviate that issue and since it's already designed for the XB1, that would obviously fit.

I think Hololens is going to be too expensive for casuals. But a pair of goggles + Kinect might be a cheaper alternative.

To be honest, I don't think that leaked Fortaleza document was Hololens, I think it's something else.

christocolus3387d ago

"I don't think Hololens will be the only solution for the XB1. I think there will be a version that uses compatibility with the Kinect for motion sensing"

My thoughts exactly.

OldDude3387d ago

Imagine standing in your living room playing catch with Derek Jeter and casually enjoying the afternoon. That's what Halolens and Kinect can bring you.

Volkama3387d ago (Edited 3387d ago )

@OldDude I imagine it something like this:

"Can we stop now, hologram of Derek Jetter? My arm is tired, and I want to play Halo".

Seriously, Hololens has a lot of potential. I'm not sure catching a ball would work too well though, as the ball would provide no tactile feedback. You'd need a mit that thumped your hand or something in order for that to feel right.

avengers19783386d ago

Hololens has a lot of potential for real world applications, and some interesting ideas come to mind for gaming, but much like VR I suspect it's success will weigh largely on price point.... If it's affordable lots of people will try it out, if it's to pricy then it will most likely fail to draw in many consumers

gangsta_red3386d ago

I also think that MS won't really market Hololens to gamers. And this may be because of the price, I think MS will first try and market it as a device for business more like the demo showed and like you said.

They will probably show gaming apps for sure and probably some of their 1st party games will make use of it in some way. But until the tech becomes more practical and the price is low enough I doubt we will see a huge push of Hololens for Xbox One.

And this is considering that the price will be high.

WizzroSupreme3387d ago (Edited 3387d ago )

I doubt it'll be as big as what they're bringing to E3 this year. I'm betting on a great Battletoads game, Crackdown, and Halo 5 sweeping the show.

pivotplease3386d ago

Some Battletoads would be ideal.

Nirvana315913387d ago

Sony will yet again steal the show

Stiffler3387d ago

I'll answer that for him:

No. Nirvanas that pop up on gaming sites are usually clueless ;)

pixelsword3387d ago

To be fair, the big three have made unorthodox gestures and announcements there in the past.

Activision team is opening a new game studio in Poland 'Elsewhere Entertainment' to build new AAA IP

Microsoft's Activision subsidiary announced today that it is opening a new game development studio to take advantage of the huge talent pool growing in Poland. It'll be the second Activision studio based in the region, joining Infinity Ward Krakow, although this studio is, in fact, not working on Call of Duty.

Microsoft's quest for short-term $$$ is doing long-term damage to Windows, Surface, Xbox, and beyond

Microsoft is pushing for no "red line" for what games could come to PlayStation, and it all revolves around Satya Nadella and CFO Amy Hood's plans to increase every department's margins.

"The plan to move Xbox games to other platforms is codenamed "Latitude" internally, and I know there's debate and unease at Microsoft about whether or not this is a good idea. More upcoming Microsoft-owned games slated for PlayStation are already being developed. At least for now, they're potentially obvious games you'd most likely expect. And yes, while it's true Microsoft is a prolific publisher on PlayStation already, it has typically revolved around specific franchises like Minecraft. From what I've heard, Microsoft is pushing for no "red line" for what games could come to PlayStation, and it all revolves around Satya Nadella and CFO Amy Hood's mandate to increase every department's margins. "

Yeah, they are going to kill Xbox hardware.

Xeofate4d ago

"Yeah, they are going to kill Xbox hardware."

It's for the best.

Quit stringing along xbox fans and screwing over PlayStation owners.

crazyCoconuts4d ago

Take good care of those Xboxes if you have 'em ...

outsider16244d ago

An Xbox game on a Playstation. Never in my years of gaming did i ever thought this was gonna happen.

jznrpg4d ago

It is dying anyway so doesn’t make much of a difference

VersusDMC4d ago

No way can they get rid of the hardware as probably 90% of game pass subscribers are hardware users.

Highly doubtful those users will move to PC or Cloud to subscribe there and the competition (Sony and Nin) will never have gamepass on their system.

If they want to keep the current subscribers, they need to keep releasing new hardware.

PSPSA3d ago

I'm not convinced, why then announce that they're actually working on the next-generation Xbox with “the largest technical leap”, and also looking into handhelds now?

Rols3d ago

Not like MS don’t drop things a hot potato if it is not performing. Look at MS history to see products or platforms discontinued. Xbox is not a charity for MS, it needs to make money and the ABK was the last roll of the dice for Xbox.

purple1013d ago

Xbox hardware team members have been incorporated into surface team

This perhaps shows they are not expecting big things from Xbox as a separate entity

Abear213d ago

Seems like they are planning to win next gen. All the acquisitions were this generation and nobody except Xbox fans expect games from the acquisitions any time soon.

I’m sure Microsoft can afford to lose money on the short term, pretty sure they do risk assessment when acquiring many companies and spending billions, they’ll be fine lol.

gold_drake4d ago

i think it will kill off the xbox brand. windows will be fine.

but there is and would be a chance that xbox might be killed off in the future. if they fail to make the money they put in. imo.

S2Killinit4d ago

They wont kill it, but they will go fully PC while keeping xbox as a brand, and go multiplatform for the most part. They will also work tirelessly to diminish console gaming’s importance.

PRIMORDUS4d ago

It would be best if Xbox goes the way of Sega, just make and publish games. I know I myself will not support them at all with buying games from them, you all can. 🙃

ChasterMies4d ago

The Xbox brand will live for the games. I don’t expect Microsoft to entirely drop out of gaming hardware. They make Surface tablets and laptops. They’ll make Xbox branded hardware for those that want it.

shadowT4d ago

"Microsoft is pushing for no "red line" for what games could come to PlayStation"

Forza and Starfield next?

Skuletor4d ago

Starfield would be no surprise and there's the rumor that it will come to Playstation after the Shattered Space DLC, Forza (along with Halo and Gears of War) I find less likely but I wouldn't be surprised if they eventually end up on PlayStation too, especially if Xbox give up on hardware and go the Sega route.

shinoff21834d ago

Not to worried about forza. I'd rather see others like what inxile and obsidian are working on. Starfield sounds like it needs more time in the oven so let it cook first imo. If starfield and it's a small if does release on ps it'll be in the fall around the time for dlc or right at the dlc and come packaged with it.

-Foxtrot4d ago

In the words of Phil Spencer when he was talking about Nintendo last year

“It's just taking a long time for Microsoft to see that their future exists off of their own hardware"

S2Killinit4d ago

Yup. MS are a cancer to console gaming.

Aloymetal4d ago

100%!!
I wonder what happened to that dude that was always here posting those court articles with cartoons about MS spending all those billions in studios. He suddenly disappeared, I guess he doesn't like bad news when the green brand is in trouble. No new articles from him as of late...

Microsoft's Absurd Antics Have Me Scared For Dishonored And Arkane Lyon's Future

With Arkane Austin no more and Lyon living for who knows how long, the superb Dishonored is in serious danger; Microsoft cannot be trusted.

Relientk776d ago

I love the Dishonored series so much and really want Dishonored 3. Microsoft better not screw this up.

JEECE6d ago

I mean, I think the fans will probably kill Arkane Lyon by cooking up reasons to hate whatever they do next without playing it. I've never seen a game so artificially disliked as Deathloop.

thesoftware7306d ago

Lol, why don't we just say, we are worried about all studios owned by MS now. They will keep closing studios until they have none left ...🙄

Skuletor6d ago

Just merge them all into a single studio, have it churn out a single Call of Duty every year and call it a day, lol.

Barlos6d ago

Don't be scared, you'll be fine.

Skuletor6d ago

It's exputer, fine is one word I would not associate with them.

Profchaos6d ago

I think it's becoming clear based on matt bootys comments there's no future for any IP that can't sell above 10 million within the launch window. But is also a small game that gives them prestige
