First impressions: The Order: 1886 and Bloodborne - Rappler

Rappler had a chance to take both games for a spin during an exclusive media event held at Imperium e-Sports bar and Video Game Lounge.

DarkOcelet3375d ago

I think both games will be great.

Bloodborne will be challenging as hell and satisfy every gamer who loves hard to beat games and Souls fans.

The Order 1886 will be a heavy story driven games that will satisfy those who yearn for a great single player experiences like Bioshock or TLOU.

I really hope both games becomes commercially and critically successful games.

jb2273375d ago

Yup, I totally agree on both counts. The single player genre needs a shot in the arm to prove to publishers that its still a viable market. I do my part by buying these games day one (assuming the games are quality well built experiences), hopefully other like minded players will do the same. I'm not ready for the future of every game being always online or multiplayer only or pay to win or mmo or what have you, the problem is that single player games don't have the benefit of that persistent revenue from online subs & microtransactions, so these games will need to sell twice as well to prove they are still moneymakers so I'm really hoping they sell gangbusters.

Letthewookiewin3375d ago

In the case of The Order depending on how it ends I hope there will be DLC that actually adds to the experiance like Last of Us: Left Behind did. Also hope there will be a new game plus, I'm really not a multiplayer guy except for the occasional BF4 match. And most of the time in co-op I find I have to deal with other people's stupidity, (come on it's tough dealing with my own) and it ruins it. Needless to say I'm really excited for this SP game.

jb2273375d ago

@letthewookiewin

Haha yup, that's pretty much me too. About the only co-op I can do is in the same room w/ my brother while we co-operatively fail at whatever we are trying to do.

For some reason I hadn't even thought about dlc for The Order but now that you mention it, I'd say that game would be ripe w/ potential for it. The multiple characters & deep storyline are practically begging to be expanded upon, The main game could be 40 hours and judging by a lot of the prerelease stuff from the devs, they'd still have plenty of story to tell. Then there's all of the cool weaponry, a dlc could add even cool guns & devices that would be interesting. Don't wanna put the cart before the horse but I'm really thinking this is a game world I'd really like to revisit after the main story.

showtimefolks3374d ago

bloodborne we all expect to be amazing but i think its The Order 18886 that will surprise many. I can see and expect the order to get mostly positive reviews

Its ready at dawns first game on home consoles, so give hem a chance. They will only get better and i can see sony buying them

Dirtnapstor3374d ago

The Order will most definitely provide a memorable experience. So looking forward to it! Crossing my fingers for DLC.
If anyone hasn't checked out their newest website, do it! It'll be obvious to anyone that RAD does have plans to continue this franchise. Stoked!

Well said Dark Ocelot. Bubs up for u.

I'm really excited for the order. I love a great story above most everything else and it would appear that there's a solid game and second to non graphics to go with the story. I'm pumped to give it a go.

DarkOcelet3374d ago

Thank you :)

I am very excited for The Order too.

AndrewLB3374d ago

I stopped reading as soon as I came across this:

"The game runs at 30 frames per second, ideal for achieving a cinematic feel."

Riiight.

Sounds to me like the author was parroting a press-release from the developer.

And to compare this game to Bioshock has got to be the most ridiculous thing i've ever read.

I know it's knit picking, but Nikola Tesla was living and working in the United States in 1886, the year he founded Tesla Electric Light & Manufacturing. Kinda lame when Dev's put famous people in countries they never lived or worked in. Had the setting been France in 1882, it would have at least been historically accurate.

frostypants3374d ago (Edited 3374d ago )

Wait...are you seriously nitpicking the historical accuracy of a game that prides itself on an alternate historical timeline? What is this I don't even...

DarkOcelet3374d ago

@Andrew

Why are you so negative on a game you clearly said you will buy day 1?

" The game looks incredible. I'll be getting it the day it's released for certain."

I honestly cant tell if you are serious or trolling sometimes lol.

DialgaMarine3374d ago (Edited 3374d ago )

Yes... Because they had Airships, Subways, Arc Guns, and fully automatic rifles in 1886... Nikola Tesla working in Britain is the only thing that seems a bit historically out of place there... -_-

Maybe I'm crazy because I'm gonna guess here, and it's a really wild guess, but this might NOT actually take place in the real 1886. IS your mind blown, because mine sure is.

Wizard_King3374d ago (Edited 3374d ago )

30FPS is the point when you need to consider upgrading to a better system, not aiming for it as a standard lol.

Sad that people defend this.

Awesome games = Linear, QTE, No coop, no PvP, 6h-8h

Another mediocre game destined for the bargain bin in under 3 months aka. Uncharted.

It's a video game not a biography...

You do understand that most video games are fictional?

Take Dying Light for instance. Do you see Zombies running around in central Europe?

How about The Last Of Us... I'm sure you do realize that a fungus that infects the brains of insects probably wouldn't have much of an effect on the human brain.

Fiction isn't a new concept, it's been around for thousands of years.

You need to find another hobby.

Bloodborne>>>the order

bloodborne is for those who want to know a good gameplay "hardcore gamers"

the order is for casual gamers who just want graphics instead of the rest.

DigitalRaptor3375d ago (Edited 3375d ago )

Bloodborne is for those who know what to expect from Miyazaki.

The Order: 1886 is for those who know what to expect from a linear third-person action-adventure game (as defined here: http://www.neogaf.com/forum... ).

Yeah... I think we're past the point of the "gameplay" argument being used against it. The vast majority of the latest impressions have rated the gameplay as solid and satisfying, whilst the graphics and story are so immersing that sometimes they have no other impact but to overcome the gameplay. I don't care. I know I want to experience this game.

The fact that both these games are releasing as big PS4 exclusives within a month of each other, is testament to the diversity of PlayStation brand, and as such defies the casual label. I'm looking forward to both and I'm certainly not what is defined as casual.

ic3fir33375d ago

the order is another Ryse, driveclub and killzone SF, amazing graphicz, but sucks on another things.

Linear, QTE, No coop, no PvP, 6h-8h is to small.

Another medíocre game

@ic3fir3

"Linear, QTE, No coop, no PvP, 6h-8h is to small."
Yettttttttttt I loved wolfenstein and countless other titles ooooooo so gtfo so to you every game needs those to be good boy bye👋 .

Hellsvacancy3375d ago (Edited 3375d ago )

"No coop, no PvP"

Please stop talking, as will I

morganfell3375d ago

"Lol this guy."

It is quite satisfying that we will never have to read an informed opinion by this person. This is particularly true concerning The Order.

I am quite happy with his and similar opinions because then The Order becomes like a secret which you do not have to share with those that do not deserve to hear it.

mkis0073374d ago

ic3fir3

Funny, you just described Bioshock (just substitute QTE for pipedream hacking).

Don't think that game got any flak.

What a stupid comment. unappreciative gamers like you should stop playing video games

Bloodborne and the Souls series >>> 99% of games, so that's not saying much.

PeaSFor3375d ago

im probably a bigger "hardcore gamer" than you and im getting both games ic3fir3, U MAD BRAH?

yeah?

that's what i thought!

jznrpg3374d ago (Edited 3374d ago )

I have been playing games for 35 years , and i want to play both.

LightDiego3374d ago

Now people will start to complain of The Order: 1886 because there is no PvP?
The haters are looking desperate now.

the haters and negative nancys are blatantly straw grabbing at this point.

DanteVFenris6663375d ago (Edited 3375d ago )

I feel like the director of bloodborne is making his series play more like the dark fantasy manga bezerk. Large weapon on one arm, gun on the other, and can move at high speeds despite the massive weapon. If we can get gut's arm cannon I will be sold 20times over and make me a guts character

Actually I think from software should make their next release a berzerk game. Just mod it to be berzerk story and character that would be the best thing ever as the current gamplay would work quite well. Sadly I know that will never happen

Stapleface3375d ago

Looking forward to both. It's looking like a very nice line up for early 2015 so far.

hemmo19863375d ago

While i had my doubts about this game I'm very quickly starting to change my mind. Can't wait to try this game out.

The 7 Best Souls-Like Games - Mastering the Challenge

The Souls-like genre remains popular, along with FromSoftware's classics there are many contenders. But which are the best Souls-like games?

toxic-inferno33d ago

Hmm... In my opinion, the 7 best are the 6 made by FromSoftware (DeS, DS1, DS2, DS3, BB and ER), then Lies of P. But each to their own.

kevco3333d ago

Still DS1? You don't feel it's been surpassed yet?

Demon's Souls has the remake of course, but DS1 has surely been outdated?

Smellsforfree33d ago

I think that the DS1 remake is better looking than DS2. The interior lighting matched with the low resolution textures in DS2 is very garish, IMO.

Besides graphics, what do you mean by DS1 being "outdated"? I'm someone who played through Elden Ring and just recently played through the DS series, and as far as gameplay went, there were all very similar.

Cacabunga33d ago

I haven’t played many but Bloodborne and NIOH1 are on top of my list.. had a blast with these 2

toxic-inferno33d ago

For world design and interconnectedness (that's a word, right?) DS1 is yet to be beaten.

anast1d 16h ago

All great games beside DS2.

toxic-inferno1d 15h ago

I would agree, but there are some things in DS2 that are great and incredibly memorable. It tries to do things differently, and there are some amazingly cinematic moments.

Of course, there's also poor level design (particularly the interconnectivity of the world), questionable combat choices and some of the worst boss runs since the early days of video games...

anast1d 14h ago

True. I can't disagree the game has some moments.

9 Years Later, Does Bloodborne Deserve All The Praise It Gets?

Saad from eXputer: "Almost a decade later, it's time to take the nostalgia goggles off and accept that Bloodborne has long been surpassed by its successors."

jznrpg35d ago (Edited 35d ago )

Yes, yes it does. It’s still a great game. Elden Ring isn’t better just different and a bit easier . I like that you have to be aggressive but smart in Bloodborne

thorstein35d ago

I literally replayed it recently and it's better than I remember. I think it's like going back to a beloved book and noticing things I hadn't before.

raWfodog35d ago (Edited 35d ago )

Yo! I was getting ready to reply with the exact same four words you started with lol. Yes, I think Bloodborne has withstood the test of time and remains a great game. That’s why all the fans are hoping for a sequel someday. Hoping that we can catch that magic again with a new storyline.

Leeroyw35d ago

Yes. Just replayed it a few days ago. My first Platinum. And yes. I rage quitted so many times and called it BS too when I started. It's tight. The combat is amazing and the lore is rich.

GamingSinceForever35d ago

Elden Ring was easier? I don’t know about that at all. I remember leveling up in Bloodborne and breezing through it. In Elden Ring no matter how powerful I got I was still catching a beat down from every boss.

thorstein34d ago

That's due to scaling enemies. I remember not doing Haligtree untill near the end and having enemies withstand almost a full blast from Azur's Glintstone Staff Comet Azure. My level was quite high.

Melee characters are not fun in that game, especially for the Elden Beast.

MeteorPanda35d ago

Considering l did a run 2 months ago? Yes.

Bloodborne's Potential Remaster Continues To Be Sony's Biggest Missed Opportunity

"Sony is missing out on a hugely profitable opportunity by ignoring fan demands for a Bloodborne remaster and PC port," says Ahmed from eXputer.

thorstein63d ago (Edited 63d ago )

Bloodborne came out on the PS4. It is owned by From Software. What missed opportunity? I am sure the people at From Software know what they are doing. Especially since they are hiring devs instead of laying them off.

Maybe do an article about that instead of writing a hit piece on them acting like they don't know how to run their business.

63d ago
-Foxtrot63d ago (Edited 63d ago )

To be fair Hidetaka Miyazaki said in an interview

“Unfortunately, and I’ve said this in other interviews, it’s not in my place to talk about Bloodborne specifically. We simply don’t own the IP at FromSoftware.”

So the ball kind of is in Sonys court, it feels like a missed opportunity because it’s something people really want and Sony just hasn’t really been bothered to get it off the ground. There was rumours it was at one point but it all went silent.

Cacabunga62d ago (Edited 62d ago )

Sony has been missing nothing but opportunities for a few years now.. since GOW release, it’s worrying silence we’ve been getting..

As for Bloodborne, imo it would be too soon to release it because PS4 game still looks phenomenal..

Bloodborne REMAKE I think will be PS6 launch title by Bluepoint. I truly hope so! 2 gens later we can get the same wow effect as Demons Souls.

Eonjay62d ago

He is right because it is Sonys IP but a little further back he also explained that they only work on one game at a time. This means that From must also be available. In other words it could already be in the pipeline. Ecen if that is the case, it's still up to Sony to reveal it when they are ready. As ever, I prefer not to hear about it until it's about 3 to 6 months from releasing.

CrashMania63d ago (Edited 63d ago )

'Bloodborne came out on the PS4. It is owned by From Software'

Actually Sony owns the IP, same with Demon's Souls. I think they'd prefer if From did the work on any future of both of those though, but if Sony wanted to they could have those off to anyone else to work on them, like the DS remake.

thorstein63d ago (Edited 63d ago )

Yeah. Thanks for the info.

But I still think that remasters should wait a generation. And Blue Point did Demon's Souls which was superb.

It can be a huge risk. And I think Hidetaka Miyazaki hinted that it would be a PS6 title. I don't he has no say in what happens, it's a partnership.

--Onilink--62d ago

To be honest, if there is a remake/remaster (not that it needs one) I would prefer someone else to handle it, like they did with Demon Souls

From many perspectives From Soft is an amazing developer, BUT, on a technical level they are far from impressive, both in terms of dated visuals (again, on a technical level, not art/design) and usually poor performance.

And what is the point of a remake/remaster if not to provide a visual and performance enhancement to a game that already nailed the rest?

Michiel198962d ago

@thorstein what huge risk? Part of one of the most well known ip's in gaming nowadays, there's not much risk there when it comes to a remake.

thorstein61d ago

@Michiel

I meant remasters in general are a huge risk, not Bloodborne.

Bloodborne isn't, but I think it's going to be on PS6, like how Demon's Souls went from PS3 to PS5.

Sorry for the confusion.

thesoftware73062d ago (Edited 62d ago )

Thorstein,

Wow, your post seems angry..relax it's an opinion.

And btw, it is on Sony, they have the exclusive right to the game, on top of that, they could have easily, at bare minimum, offered an official 60fps patch, with a few extras and charged people $10 to upgrade or $30-40 for new buyers.

I believe I saw an interview where , FromSoft said it was all up to Sony on a sequel and other dealing with the game.

A "hit peice", that serious huh?..relax lol.

thorstein62d ago (Edited 62d ago )

Wow you seem angry. I responded to crash 2 days ago about the remaster and who did it.

Why do you care what other people think in a moment about some journalism. Calm down, buddy, it's just my opinion. From 3 days ago.

Edit: I just went back through my comments and found 2 where I call out the author in the past month. Wow, I'm a rageaholic.

P_Bomb62d ago

Highly requested, unfortunately neglected.

Some say we didn’t need TLOU2 remake but that was a PS4 game and now we need a BB remake but that was a PS4 game. We send mixed signals
