Naughty Dog Artist Draws Amazing Shadow of The Colossus Artwork; Explains How He Created it

Shadow of the Colossus is one of the most beloved games of old by Sony, so it's not surprising that even many professional game artists draw inspiration from it. The latest to create some amazing fan artwork of Team Ico's poetic action-adventure is Naughty Dog Artist Andrew Maximov.

I like seeing the models clearly, but it's also cool that it's towering above the clouds. I'd have to see them both in motion to decide which I like better. With the fog/clouds I guess it would look more realistic in motion, but doesn't look as good in a still photo, because of the less detail visible.

The best would be evolving weather, where you could see it clearly at points, but at other times clouds roll in and you get a different feel for it's size.

Imagine fighting that in a thunderstorm..

Team Ico haven't released a game since Shadow of the Colossus, but that game is so damn good I didn't even realize it until now. I never got tired of playing it. I wish more games were like that.

I agree. This artwork is boring for me. The titan has no weight, the horse looks wooden, the soil looks like icecream. Not enough contrast, boring colors and structure, too diffuse.
Acceptable as a sketch and I like that he shares about his workflow.
