Project CARS looks amazing, but DriveClub’s realistic weather physics still leads the way.

Project cars look like a good video game while driveclub looks like reality

GameNameFame3428d ago

While xbox and ms rely on pr and magic secret sauce that will never happen.

Ps4 just shows pure result without any pr.

What you see is devs work and additional power of ps4. The actual result not pr.

It will only get better once devs and Sony optimize for that additional power

PONTIAC08G8GT3428d ago

@gamenamefame

Tell me how well DC was to play online? Or the gameplay in general? Doesn't matter how pretty a game looks if it plays poorly.

@Cindy-rella
DC looks like reality but plays like a nightmare.

Personally I could careless which has better graphics. When I play a racing game, I care about the gameplay, how the car's drive, you know...what racing is actually about.

IRetrouk3428d ago

Pontiac

The gameplay is really good, reminds me a lot of pgr, every car feels diffrent enough from each other and the gameplay itself is fast and addictive, i really dont understand what you mean when you say it plays like a nightmare lol its almost as if you have not played it yet.......

Spotie3428d ago

I like how PONTIAC doesn't give any personal experience with DriveClub before claiming it lacks in gameplay. It's interesting that whenever people make that claim, they have NOTHING to back it up.

Gameplay LITERALLY means how you play the game, and there's not a thing wrong with how you play DriveClub. The best these trolls can come up with is that it doesn't handle like another game(usually Forza). Guess what, geniuses: MOST GAMES DON'T HANDLE LIKE OTHER GAMES.

And that's assuming they even manage that much. Most of them wind up talking about "missing" features... including things that were never supposed to be there in the first place, or things that were announced to be coming later long ago, like the weather.

Funny that because graphics is an arena in which DriveClub excels, that's somehow all the game is about. As if, rather than driving the cars, you just watch them go around the courses on their own. It's getting really annoying watching people who obviously have no experience with or desire to play a game continually commenting on it with ignorant negativity.

Stuff like that used to be called trolling. I guess it's just par for the course, now.

nveenio3428d ago

Driveclub is just on a whole other level. And we should all be thankful for it, because it will drive other devs to do the same thing, and that's how we push the industry forward.

Project Cars has just been in development for too long. They are literally working in an engine they started developing years ago. And not just any years, but YEARS. At least 4. And that's just too old. It used to be a leader in graphics, but it's just been too long. It's that simple.

Muzikguy3428d ago

@Spotie
That was very well said you deserve bubbles. Must be a new thing for the new year, trolling isn't trolling

Army_of_Darkness3428d ago

Drive club kinda makes project cars look last gen when compared side by side like this...

@PONTIAC08G8GT,
I like how graphics don't matter when it's not you're platform of choice getting the visual advantage LOL! and for your info, DC plays very well and has a great sense of speed but you would have known this if you actually played it ;-)

Larry L3427d ago (Edited 3427d ago )

For anyone like myself who was worried if maybe DriveClub's "gameplay" (by which someone would mean in terms of racing games, feel, handling.....basically how responsive steering is, generally with a controller, for the majority of console racing gamers.....Gran Turismo being a 10, Shift 2 for example being about a 2) is actually good or not since Sony/Evo still haven't released the Plus version yet.......fear not......it's great. Better than what people tend to explain here.

As someone who admittedly hasn't bought the game yet, how would I know? Because a DriveClub demo is now actually in PS4 demo kiosks at Best Buy and GameStop. I played it for the first time the day after Christmas when I noticed a kid playing a racing game on the PS4 unit. A REALLY good looking game. Sure enough, it's DC!! The demo has 3 different races with 3 different cars. And I swear.......the best way to describe it to a racing fan similar to myself is: Do you recall the Motorstorm demo in PS3 demo units before we all had PS3's? Did you find youself driving to Gamestops and Best Buys just to play that demo it was so good? YUP.........I've driven to Best Buy 4 times since the day after Christmas. It's THAT good.......no BS.

Buy it!!! The only reason I haven't is because I'm broke.

jhoward5853427d ago (Edited 3427d ago )

@PONTIAC08G8GT

I'm a little late on my commit but I do agree with you to a certain point.

DC visual has been upgraded but not the game play. Sure its plays well so it gets a welcoming free past as a great game from most gamers. Its laughable how everyone praises DC like its the best racing game ever made. I'm afraid to say DC it not jaw dropping in my opinion.

I can go back as far as the PS1 and find a racing game that has the same appeal in game play. Personally, if a game doesn't bring anything new to the table, it shouldn't get a free past.

When I first DC at E3 it had this snappy fast executions of menus popping up everywhere on the screen which gave it a very social and competitive feel of the game. everything was very fast and snappy with out any delays. Hell, even during a race menus were popping up all over the place with audio accompanying the menus as its illustrative the movement of the menus. Its looked very very social in appearance which looks cool. Now DC moves just as slow as any other game and the amount menu screen pop-ups were heavenly down-graded. And don't say its b/c Evo change it because it was annoying because it wasn't. The menu were intelligent enough. Bottom line, DC is a great game but it nothing I consider new as far as racing games. Nuff said.

SKullDugger3424d ago

So in your world the only thing that matters is the graphics, that is truly sad.

way better ,just the rain running across glass when it moves blows my mind.
its like reality.

infact me and lad who is 9yrs old was going shop other day and it rained and he said "dad, the rain on the window is doing what it does in drive club when u turn and wipers wipe"

im thinking of getting the wheel that u put your pad in for driveclub, does anyone know what its like to control using it?

DarkOcelet3428d ago

Project Cars looks good but Driveclub looks like a CGI.

NuggetsOfGod3428d ago (Edited 3428d ago )

Weather articles don't help inform gamers of which game is best..

Project cares gameplay > DC gameplay.
DC wweather > Project Cars weather.

Also 60fps is always better no matter how uncinematic it may be.

Project Cars gets my $$$

I like hardore racing with damage physics and car tuning.

If your a hardcore meteorologist go with Drive Club.

project cars needs to be compared to gt actually.

If gt tries to be a 60fps game DC might end up still looking better than gt.

Thats the power of ps4 lowering its fps..

Really you have to compare DC with the highest rated racer of last year forza h2.

still project cars is not bad for a crowd funded game.

This article doesnt help inform gamers purchase.
If DC looks better go with the arcade game.
If Project Cars looks better go with the hardore sim.

360ICE3428d ago

Agree that 60fps is better than 30fps, but have you played Project Cars?

If not, don't assume that it'll play better. The driving in Driveclub is awesome.

DarkOcelet3428d ago

Forza Horizon 2 was good but it was such a letdown for me after Forza Horizon 1 which is still the best in the series. And you cant say Project Cars gameplay is better when the game is not out yet. Then you can say which is better.

Mexxan3428d ago

I played Project Cars at London Comicon, visually decent but far from a 'current gen' look. I agree with one of the posters above - it's been way to long and looked kinda generic. Granted a demo, but the excitement turned to disappointment for sure.

PersonMan3427d ago

Have you played DRIVECLUB? 5 minutes in and you'll forget that it's 30fps. It handles like a dream and never skips a single frame.

Plus, the motion blur blends the frames together so well that it (almost) feels like a 60fps game.

I have no issue with DRIVECLUB being 30fps. It runs and plays perfectly fine. Sure, it might be weird for a couple of minutes if you're used to 60fps all the time, but you will adjust and it will look and feel natural in no time.

As soon as I get some free time, which means completing games I already own, I'm going to have to pick up DC. It just looks too good to pass up. I've been quite impressed actually with some of the games in the first year. This next year is going to be awesome!

SKullDugger3424d ago (Edited 3424d ago )

And DC gameplay blows ass at best. The AI is stupid its always running into you and you loose points and going into a turn the AI hits and spins you out. There were racing games on the PS2 that have better physics ad AI then DC.

DriveClub Looks Way Better . almost a generation ahead

NuggetsOfGod3428d ago (Edited 3428d ago )

To be fair project cars frame rate is a full generation ahead.

Like going from ps3 to ps5. Consider the fact that 98% of ps4 games are 30fps.
Look at gta5 dips to 26fps but looks amazing!

What is fully next gen really?

So far ps4 has boasted amazingly like life games in linear worlds.
Then planetside has 800 players less and is 30fps.

Seems sony messed up with the cpu.
You telling the brainiac mark can't balance a pc?

Though I suspect that ps5 games will be 4k 30fps with amazing graphics.

Deathdeliverer3428d ago

You sound pretty upset nugget. Did Drive Club break up your parents and leave you orphaned? The question is "does Drive Club look better?" It's an obvious yes but your opinion may vary. You go off on a tirade BECAUSE it looks so good. It truly must suck to have such hate for a video game and or the system playing it. Drive Club looks incredible. No amount of hate can change that. Some day a game will surpass it graphically. This is not that day. It's fun as hell too so once you figure that out you might have to be placed on suicide watch.

Clunkyd3428d ago (Edited 3428d ago )

@Nuggets

Butthurt because a $400 console visually looks miles ahead better than a multiplat game thats on PC. lol

AndrewLB3428d ago

You fanboys are hilarious. The only graphical aspect that DriveClub "currently" has a leg up on Project Cars is the way water moves around on a cars windshield. And i'll admit, it looks great. But that's it!

Project Cars uses a much higher level of detail in both near and far textures, twice the video framerate, much more advanced vehicle physics, more realistic particle and light scattering effects, higher overall resolution, and it doesn't blur everything and claim it to be anti-aliasing.

The only way DriveClub can pull off this level of detail is in photo mode. http://www.gamersyde.com/hq...

windblowsagain3428d ago

https://www.youtube.com/wat...

You really need to open your eyes.

Driveclub is rendering huge dynamic environments.

Weather/lighting/material physics/volumetric clouds.Impressive car models and huge tracks.

Project cars does look good for running 60fps and rendering smaller environments.

deadie3427d ago (Edited 3427d ago )

"You fanboys are hilarious."

Yes Indeed. ^^

Im looking @ you AndrewLB.

If you honestly think that Project Cars look better than Driveclub you need to get your eyes checked.

Im serious - fix them eyes.

OsirisBlack3428d ago

This is really not a contest Driveclub is visually stunning and the physics and water behavior are well above anything else available.

60FPS on PS5: Unofficial PS5 'FPS Boost' mods are radically improving PS4 back compat

Digital Foundry : Whether it's via FPS Boost or bespoke software upgrades, backwards compatibility on the current-gen consoles delivered an unexpected delight - the ability to liberate older console games from their 30fps limits, running them at 60 frames per second or even higher. FPS Boost did the business for Xbox Series consoles on an impressive range of titles, but there was always the sense that PS5 could do more. It's a hunch that checks out as a range of frame-rate unlocks are available for PS5, covering many must-have games - the major caveat being that only exploitable consoles running on older firmwares are invited to the party.

darthv72131d ago

you love to see new life being breathed into older titles but damn the process to get there. It should be automatic that these work for everyone... not just those who exploit their systems. Really wish Sony and MS would keep this program going officially.

Psychonaut85131d ago

Damn this sucks. I want this shit so bad, but I’m not jailbreaking my console. And frankly I shouldn’t have to. I’m not a tech person, but is it really that hard for developers to unlock the framerate? Or would that have to be a large patch?

dveio130d ago (Edited 130d ago )

"but is it really that hard for developers to unlock the framerate?"

I guess it's not.

But it has become a profitable business if you do so.

So no one would pay for only the framerate patched to being unlocked. So studios need to offer more than that.

But this would take more time, polishing and would cost more money. So they shy away, but won't unlock the framerate, either.

That's just my personal assumption. But from what I can comprehend technically, it shouldn't be difficult to unlock framerates via a patch for older games.

... if it hadn't became a business.

RaidenBlack130d ago (Edited 130d ago )

frame-rate unlock should be free ...
We've seen many devs offer free patches and updates to pretty old PC titles, even bonuses ... so why can't devs offer the frame unlock patch for free (in consultation with the platform-producers) for a title from just a generation earlier?

Einhander1972130d ago

RaidenBlack

"frame-rate unlock should be free ..."

Obviously the result of that thinking is that developers aren't even going to do it.

If they had been allowed to charge $5-10 you would see incentivized developers doing it way more often.

People just always want everything for free, but it's not free to make the patch, people have to code it then other people have to test it, and there will always be other costs involved.

If people want dollar store gaming then expect to get what you pay for.

shinoff2183130d ago (Edited 130d ago )

Raiden I might be wrong but last I thought it cost money to put patches out on consoles.

As far as me paying for it, I'm not all that interested tbh. Not enough to pay for it with older games, and newer games have been pretty decent about it for the most part.

dumahim130d ago

Sounds like the modder has to go in to make changes to unlock it on a game by game basis. "Simple" enough to do it unofficially, but to have it done officially, they need someone to go in a make that change, put out a patch and put it through certification, which I believe is not necessarily a cheap thing to do. It's questionable if going through this would then give them enough sales to make it worthwhile.

Inverno130d ago

Many games still have physics tied to framerate, i think it's cause they wouldn't want to go in and do anything extra. Then there's the 10 dollar upgrades they rather charge. The problem is that there's no compromise, cause if I could mod my PS4 and all I'd lose is online play then id jailbreak it immediately. Mods have done so much for PC games and they could do the same for consoles, but manufacturers hafto be willing to compromise.

shinoff2183130d ago

It's not to hard to do and there's youtube videos that break it down really well. ANyway most of us here arent able to break are console anyway due to being up to date on firmware from playing

+ Show (1) more replyLast reply 130d ago
Chocoburger130d ago

Yep, this sucks having to require a jailbreak for something that should be standard in our industry by now. I learned my lesson when PS4 was jailbroken and I didn't keep a console on low firmware for years, but now I'm holding onto two low firmware PS5s specifically because there are features I'll be able to do that you can't do on official firmware, so this will pay off for me soon enough.

Jin_Sakai130d ago

It should be a sin to let these games sit and be stuck at 30fps.

EazyC130d ago

RDR 2 not getting a 60FPS patch for PS5 was a crime.

Why did EA Kill Project CARS?

This video explains why we think Electronic Arts didn't see a future in the sim racing title Project CARS and promptly cancelled the fourth instalment.

Jin_Sakai557d ago

After the last installment I’d say most hardcore fans left. It’s just not that good anymore so I can’t really blame EA this time.

masterfox557d ago

because it was always a project and it never got finished :D

ChubbyBlade555d ago

Every game is a project. Your joke doesn’t make sense

InUrFoxHole555d ago

It makes perfect sense. It's obviously a play on the title. Jesus christ you must be a blast at parties.

ApocalypseShadow556d ago (Edited 556d ago )

Ask Bullfrog or Black Box or Tiburon or Studio 33 or Criterion or any of the previously acquired developers who made racing games as competition, or as developers of EA games, then eventually dissolved into oblivion or reassigned. Just ask them. They'll tell you why.

ApocalypseShadow555d ago

Oh. I forgot. Even Code Masters were absorbed into Criterion. Another racing developer EA took over.

Every racing developer either absorbed by EA or eventually destroyed by them. They either kill competition or have them in the end make Need 4 Speed for them.

MadLad556d ago

EA only cancels projects for one reason.
They didn't see enough money in it.

Kombatologist555d ago (Edited 555d ago )

Not when it's because it didn't meet some crazy margin. It's like if something doesn't make EA a billion dollars on day one (I'm exaggerating that figure of course), they swiftly put it out to pasture.

SurgicalMenace555d ago (Edited 555d ago )

Much like if you're spending money on what's a bad investment for your desired goals, you'd do away with it, if you're wise. We should try to get away from thinking we know more about business than individuals that have been doing it for decades. Perhaps you could benefit from going into business instead of wasting all of your talents in comment sections. It's clear that you're the missing piece that EA's been looking for.

MadLad554d ago

I've made a good amount of money betting on underdog investments over the years.

EA sets unrealistic expectations of their more niche developers, yet continue to fund absolute blunders like DICE and the Battlefield series year after year.

dumahim555d ago

EA butted in and messed with the formula and act shocked when it doesn't work out.

Original Project CARS creator trying to re-hire EA team

Ian Bell, the founder of Slightly Mad Studios, is aiming to hire former Project CARS employees to work on his upcoming GTR Revival project.

Sgt_Slaughter559d ago

If it's just going to be another sim-cade that doesn't do either one correctly then no thanks.

Project CARS 2 was a step in the right direction but the physics still aren't where they should have been, so what did they do for PC3? Go completely arcade. That killed the franchise.
