Phantasy Star Portable Demo in Japan This Month

On July 31, gamers based in Japan will be getting Phantasy Star Portable for Sony's PSP. Now any fan of the game knows that waiting for approximately one month can be hell. Thankfully, gamers in the aforementioned region won't have to wait that long.

Apparently, Sega has announced plans of releasing a demo for the game on July 14. According to the reports, the demo will probably be available via the Japan PSP Browser page and will allow players to try out both Story (single player)and Multi Mode (co-op with up to four players) .

So it looks like we're going to have to wait for around two weeks before we can try out the demo. while waiting, why don't you check out some screenshots courtesy of Gpara, by following the full story link.

What do you need to know about Phantasy Star?

Man, Phantasy Star can be confusing. There are so many different kinds of games in this series, but they all get tossed under the same umbrella. The oldest games are turn-based RPGs. The newer ones vary between MMOs and action-RPGs. Wouldn’t it be nice if things were simplified...

Phantasy Star online episode 1 and 2 is one my all time favorites. Just make that better...

ApocalypseShadow2350d ago

What I need to know is when is Sega going to make and release Phantasy Star 5. All I need to know.

SegaGamer2349d ago

Even if they did, then i doubt it would be released outside of Asia. We haven't had a Phantasy Star game since Phantasy Star Portable 2, and that was 7 years ago !

I don't know why, but Sega seem's to have abandoned the west when it comes to Phantasy Star.

ApocalypseShadow2349d ago (Edited 2349d ago )

Pretty much. You would think that sequels to some of their franchises or remasters of games like Skies of Arcadia, Shenmue, Headhunter, Virtual On online, Jet Set Radio, etc would make them some easy cash as digital titles. Even VR titles of Virtual Cop, HofTD or even something crazy like Crazy Taxi VR. Nope. The Sega I knew just isn't there.

Maybe Sammy has them on a tight leash and just uses their assets for Pachinko games like Konami does. It's a shame being a Sega game fan but no Sega games to look forward to.

Seriously though! When I first saw this I thought I missed an announcement or something. I thought it was to prep people up for the next game. Damn

Phantasy Star II: Were Critics into Sega's RPG in 1990?

Forget dungeons and dragons, Phantasy Star II takes role-playing gamers out of the high fantasy world and throws them into a distant future. After a successful Master System installment, Sega decided to make Phantasy Star II one of their big 1990 releases. Was this Sega Genesis sequel well received at the time? Defunct Games turn to Electronic Gaming Monthly, Raze, Sega Pro and MegaTech for the answers!

Yep. The first one was the only one worth playing.

I thought 3 was pretty good for it's time, but I did like one the most.

Becuzisaid3617d ago

I only played a few hours of 4 and I liked it. Couldn't compare it to the others though

Of the four base Phantasy star games, PS2 was by far the most innovative. Not from gameplay, but story telling it was one of the first to kill off a main character.

Another thing that many don't remember, At that time sequels like this (ones that continued the story in any way at all) didn't really happen. So it was a serious breath of fresh air in story telling that way. It made me for the first time want to play phantasy star on the master system to see the whole story.

Another thing... The game was so difficult a hint book and maps were included. This game would've been dark souls esque hard for its time without it.

How many people would've known to walk into the side of.. Ido island I think it was called. Or walk outside of the map in the dump..

Even later the falling down the holes to get the Nei items.....it was awesomely brutal.

And lastly the small details I have to share that made this game special... The characters. They came along great as you cared about them and the different attitudes they had. Different fighting styles based on their personality. Shir the thief... Stealing stuff from stores was a cool feature. The machine wreckers goofy country type talk. It was a great, difficult, long, story driven game that I consider a pioneer in the jrpg genre.

Secret of Mana and Chrono Trigger I'd love to see sequels to.

-Gespenst-3999d ago

Chrono Cross was a great game!! One of the best rpgs on the psone and possibly ever. This dude's trippin'

I'd love to see a proper sequel to Terranigma... that could be the most amazing thing ever.

A new Breath of Fire would be sweet. I never played Dragon Quarter but I'd like to. At the same time, I think they should try something a little bit different to it for number 5.

Hydralysk3999d ago (Edited 3999d ago )

From what I've seen Chrono Cross is a very polarizing game, everyone I know either liked it, or absolutely detested it.

Though mainly what I remember from that game was giggling constantly when I used Bushwhacker to kill enemies.

TheOneWhoIsTornApart3998d ago

Agreed Chrono Cross is one of my Top 3 games of all time along with Xenogears and Final Fantasy VII. I loved the art design and setting for the game. It looked like it was hand painted by an incredible artist. Also don't get me started on the soundtrack because I can talk about how incredible it is for years.

mydyingparadiselost3998d ago

You don't want to play Dragon Quarter.

rextraordinaire3999d ago

Am I the only one here who really enjoyed Dawn of Mana?

Loved everything from it. The score based stages, the monster arena, the music, the visuals.

Sure it didn't feel like Secret of Mana or Legend of Mana, but I never agreed with reviewers that game it such bad scores.

StrawHatPatriot3999d ago

Final Fantasy XIII deserves a sequel
