If games like Skyrim are a slowly enjoyed pleasure, then MOBAs like League of Legends are the instant gratification of the gaming world, and this is one of the central reasons why they are so potentially dangerous.
TNS: "A League of Legends game mode, Arena, will return with some major changes that may breathe some life for a stagnant game."
ESTNN writes: "Hwei, LeBlanc and Ryze stand above the rest as the strongest players in the League of Legends 14.8 mid-lane due to substantial buffs in their scaling, base damage and crowd control (CC) respectively."
ESTNN write: "Our updated guide on the latest champions coming to Summoner's Rift."
You must be on to something, considering that more ppl play it than almost every other game type combined.
That and Dota 2 are the 2 biggest games in the world. Thats saying something considering the sales records that Blizzard and Activity have set.
I imagine that if LoL ever made a retail veraion, it would shatter all previous sale records, setting entertainment benchmarks that would make Hollywood jealous.
It's insane just how popular this genre and these two games have become. It's amazing to think too that along w/ WoW, Diablo and Hearthstone, we have Blizzard to thank. If they had been slightly more visionary, they would have hired the creator of DotA but that slipped to the incredible Gabe Newell and Valve.
Anyway, yeah, it's insanely addictive and very dangerous, just as mmo's have been for awhile now, casual games too. It's the social aspect that grips you and won't let you go. The dangling carrot that never goes away. It's why Destiny will succeed despite its issues.
I have to stay away. Or I'll be consumed like those in the east that spend weeks and months in internet cafes.
MOBA's, like every other genre of gaming, will always have a place. Just another reason games are the greatest form of entertainment on earth.
