The Evil Within Proves There is No Such Thing as a Perfect Horror Game

The Evil Within is exactly the game horror fans have been asking for, and the game proves that survival horror is dead and buried.

PT/Silent Hills looks to be the next big thing in survival horror. The Evil Within is the last gasp of the old guard: its still good if you're into kitschy RE style horror, but it does little to attract new fans or even rekindle the interest of the tired masses.

there is the prefect survival horror= Resident Evil 1 (pSx version) it s just perfectly made ...for Evil within i say that Shinji somewhere lost it, mostly because they had to co-develop the game with Bethesda (we all know when westerners try to make horror games or involved in development usually the game fails tragically

Yeah last of us was action man. It was horrifying and disturbing with the setting and events, but it's not horror. It was more of a superb adventure game than anything

It's very brutal and very tense Survival/action game
with some horror elements

but not Survival horror

i think LouS was one perfect exemple of survival horror ..the completely copied the formula from RE1

Believe it or not, some gamers have fun being in a situation where they always on their toes and the odds are stacked against them........I can understand if you don't like Evil Within but to write it off as mess due to not being able to roundhouse monsters and difficulty is ludicrous.

Playing through the evil within for the first time at the moment and I must say I'm really impressed with it so far. I like my games to be difficult especially horror games can't say it's tested me to hard at the mo but I like the fact there's another difficulty when I've finnished it. All in all very pleased with my purchase.

There are two more difficulties, nightmare and Akumu, the latter will get your Sebastian dead with one hit :D

What I really liked about The Evil Within is that the game play was consistent from beginning to end. That said, its Something I don't experience much in many games. Some game start off incredible and then as soon as you make to 1/4 of the way in the game the level of action drops.

Like others have mentioned, the next step in horror is definitely stuff like P.T. Also, VR gaming could be a huge addition to the horror genre. Admit it, playing P.T. alone with Morpheus on would be incredible.
