Ubisoft has killed the season pass, proving consumers should never buy them (at launch)

MMGN: This year Ubisoft has enforced season passes with Assassin’s Creed Unity, Watch Dogs, Shape Up, Far Cry 4 and The Crew ... None of those games need a season pass, and half of them definitely shouldn’t have one.

gangsta_red3478d ago

I bought the Borderlands Pre-Sequel season pass only because Part 2 was so good. Biggest mistake of the year, not only was that game a pale shell of the excellent that was part 2 but I ended up returning the damn game to Gamestop a week later. And you can't refund the Season Pass...

My bad though, I should have known since that game wasn't developed by the original team, but it still taught me a valuable lesson about season passes.

I will definitely be more observant about these season passes these companies are trying to pawn off on us.

wannabe gamer3477d ago

lol if you already bought the season pass then why return the game...thats like buying ham to make a sandwich and then throwing the bread you got with it in the trash. you only shot yourself in the foot with that one and insured the money spent on the pass was wasted not even giving it the chance.

sloth33953477d ago

sometimes you need to throw the bread away if you find out it is bad

Muzikguy3477d ago

You can still eat the ham! :)

wannabe gamer3477d ago

but its not a sandwich. its just cold meat

jackanderson19853478d ago

except said customers now have the opportunity to get Far Cry 4 for a price of 25 which is pretty damn good

ginsunuva3477d ago

Said customers probably already own Far Cry 4.

Metallox3477d ago

Said customers can't sell the code they get, if by pure coincidence they have all the games offered.

DefenderOfDoom23477d ago

Wow, with the WITCHER 3 saying all DLC for free , and the EVOLVE DLC maps for free . This week has been very interesting in a very good way . I really hope more video game publishers , keep this trend going .

And much thanks, to very entertaining YOUTUBE video content makers,
JIM STERLING and BOOGIE2298 .

Kevlar0093477d ago (Edited 3477d ago )

I'd buy a Season Pass for just about any Nintendo game if they made it. Mario World Tour 3DS and Mario Kart 8 have done season pass/early DLC pre-ordering amazingly.

And thank God for Jim Sterling

GreetingsfromCanada3477d ago

The Withcer's dlc is really just 2 $3 packs split into 16 to make it look big

FullmetalRoyale3477d ago

Except it is for free, so...

mhunterjr3477d ago (Edited 3477d ago )

While I rarely buy season passes, I don't understand the negativity surrounding this announcement. Ubisoft admits they screwed up royally with the launch of unity. As a consolation, they are giving EVERYONE the upcoming DLC for free. For those who had previously paid for the DLC, they are getting, in addition to any future Unity DLC, an AAA Ubisoft title at no extra charge, some valued at $60, like the newly release (and well received) FarCry4 or the yet to be released The Crew.

So while, the f***ed up royally. I think they are making a good and fair attempt a redemption here.

OpieWinston3477d ago

They're doing a great job at compensating people. Unity is being fixed and it's still a solid game but the fact that they aren't shrugging off all the cons by pretending like they don't exist and making sure people are compensated fairly is a great way of showing us they value customer satisfaction.

FullmetalRoyale3477d ago

Certainly the best of a bad situation, here. The obvious problem being that they sold it to us in the first place. But that being done, I do agree that this is a wise mood.

Waffles113477d ago

I just came up with a silly concept. Make a great, complete game from start that you simply stick in the console, and it plays without problem. I only joke though, It's great we have the superior gaming model that exists today.....

mhunterjr3477d ago

Yeah well, they can't go back in time and undo what they did. This is the next best thing... And when the game is fixed, their customers will actually end up with MORE than they paid for...

ShaqSoda3477d ago

So disappointed in the reviews about Unity. Was really going to pick up because all the previous games were so good. Black Flag let me down a little due to no relevant story line to the others so I was really looking forward to this one. Can anyone tell me if the game just has bugs or isn't playable at all?

xenz3477d ago

I played some of the game and I found the story to be much more interesting than AC Black Flag, and I love the setting so much more! Parkour is much better and everything seems like a breeze.

Only thing that keeps me from playing further is all the bugs and FPS issues, but I'm sure that this game will be excellent when they fix these problems! I would recommend to wait a little until everything works like it should do :-)

Wait. I don't get it. I reported on something that I recently noticed. I did mention in my article that I wouldn't have noticed if I hadn't gone to play The Division 2. That said, if this was nearly a week ago, I wouldn't know, as NO ONE REPORTED ON IT! Not IGN. Not Gamespot. Not Kotaku. No one.

You got people here complaining that there are any real gaming journalists and game journalism sucks, but when someone is acting, doing something to make something known to the public about what a company is doing. What do you do? You poke fun at it. What is it that people want? Do you want to complain for the sake of it? Or do you actually want people to do something to make those who aren't in the know aware of the shady stuff that's happening and to sound the alarm?

ravens5253d ago

It's the "oh well" setting in on digital users. They don't care they don't own their stuff for some odd reason. 🤷🏽.

FullmetalRoyale53d ago

Good for you! People sometimes just feel the need to show how little they actually have to say. Very respectful dressing down, btw, which is another thing we need more of.

fan_of_gaming53d ago

I appreciate your article,
- "If this isn’t considered both a “WTF” moment and setting a dangerous precedent, I don’t know what else it would be"
- "it could also signal other publishers that removing games from our accounts would be okay"
- "Maybe those firmly against this digital future have a point after all"
- "This. Is. Fucked. Up."

As someone against an only-digital/streaming future for entertainment content (movies/TV shows/games/books), it feels like talking into a void about the points above on this website, or on Twitter, or with my friends, etc. People don't get it. I'm strongly contemplating whether this will be my last generation of PlayStation & Xbox consoles (I'm confident enough that Nintendo's next system will still support physical media and that their 1st-party games won't have online-required installation or usage restrictions).

Yet people will sit here and still say that digital is better 🙃

TheSenorCheese53d ago

Welcome to the era where you no longer own your games.

gvrd001953d ago (Edited 53d ago )

I'm so done with Ubisoft, removing games one paid for is a new low...
Bye Ubisoft,
You've done f#c*ed it up !

Chocoburger52d ago

This was me 9 years ago, when I realized all they wanted to make were filler boring games that are packed with micro-trash-actions.

Snooze! Moving on from Ubi-junk!

vTuro2452d ago

I see they're trying their best to surpass Activision Blizzard for being the most hated gaming company. Keep at it, Ubisoft, I believe!

Played and enjoyed Far Cry, Far Cry 3 and 4 campaigns .

-Foxtrot81d ago

4 wasn’t so bad

Pagan Min was pretty entertaining

Skuletor81d ago

Yeah, 4 was good, was hard choosing which Golden Dawn member to side with, when they were both pieces of sh!t.
I've beaten all the main entries except 2 and 6, ended up uninstalling 6 to download something else instead.

Profchaos81d ago

I'd love a far cry pack with the original PC game (not the half assed port on ps360) instincts, predator even a port of far cry 2 to modern consoles back when these games had their own identity and weren't far cry 3 cut and pastel

Demetrius81d ago

Still one of my most favorite franchises along with assassins creed

banger8881d ago (Edited 81d ago )

Same here, I don't know why these games get so much hate. I've thoroughly enjoyed every single one of them, with only a couple of exceptions. I wish they'd hurry up and announce Far Cry 7. The only thing I'm concerned about is the rumoured time limit.

I Played Assassin’s Creed Unity Almost 10 Years Later. It’s (Kinda) Spectacular

Do the NPCs still randomly levitate every now and then? Even years later I noticed they hadn't patched that out

andy8582d ago (Edited 82d ago )

Honestly I loved the PS4 ACs. I'd love next gen ports of Black Flag, Unity and Syndicate
