IGDA ,the international game developers association, recently released a resource for how to best deal with online harassment. The resource, which includes extreme measures such as links to a suicide prevention hotline for those who have experienced severe and mentally damaging threats, also recommends a Twitter tool which blocks “some of the worst offenders” of online harassment.
The GG autoblocker list is a bot created by Randi Harper, who has previously been involved in criminal activity, which blocks anyone on Twitter who follows more than one of the following accounts : @Nero, @PlayDangerously, @RogueStarGamez, @TheRalphRetort, @_icze4r, @RealVivianJames, or @CHOBITCOIN, and does not in fact analyze the content of users tweets for harassment. It should be noted that the above users have never been implicated in harassment, and in fact, have been the subjects of harassment with @Nero receiving a syringe and a dead animal in the mail, while @_icze4r has been swatted.
Edit: Since the publication of this article, IGDA has realised their mistake and removed the autoblocker from their resource completely.
Developer CyberConnect2 confirmed the incoming closure of its satellite office in Montreal, Canada. At the end of July, it'll be shutting down its only other office beyond the main one stationed in Fukuoka, Japan.
The Montreal office opened in 2016, 20 years after the developer was originally founded. Its statement noted that the second office "led CyberConnect2 on a creative journey in the development of tools and cutting-edge techniques used in creating games."
No mention was made in the developer's statement about if it will offer any severance or transitional help to those about to be laid off.
An interview with Dr. Jakin Vela, Executive Director of the International Game Developers Association, during the 2023 Game Developers Conference.
A U.S. judge in California on Thursday turned down Microsoft Corp's bid to freeze a private consumer antitrust lawsuit over the company's $69 billion deal to acquire "Call of Duty" maker Activision Blizzard Inc while a related regulatory challenge to the deal plays out.
I wonder if the opinions displayed by the members on this site would be the same if Sony were the ones trying to buy Activision Blizzard.
Strange the triilion dollar company with the best lawyers money can buy. Funny, there was someone here saying and making fun that this would be immediately crushed...
MS are only buying up these publishers so they can take the IP's they want absorb them into the xbox brand and then close down said publisher. I bet in a few years Bethesda will be gone and MS will take titles like Fallout, Doom, Elder Scrolls, etc and ditch the rest. They do it in all other areas that they slime their way into so why will gaming be teated any different by them?
Lets hope the courts can stop this tax dodging tech giant from buying up and monopolising yet another industry.
Backfires like these are hilariously ridiculous...
LOL are they absolutely serious, people like Nero have tried their hardest to actually do research into GamerGate and expose the corruption. Even though most of these people did research, had evidence to support their claims and put things nicely they still were attacked
Anti Gamer Gate people are more abusive then Gamer Gate people.
GamerGate mostly talks about ethics in games journalism when they don't have to keep defending themselves from people saying they aren't while Anti Gamer Gate people just attack them and call the entire movement stupid....that's it, they don't actually add anything important they just call them.
"hashtag to speak out against Geordie Tait, who claimed that the only solution for ending GamerGate was to bring about a second holocaust"
"and in fact, have been the subjects of harassment with @Nero receiving a syringe and a dead animal in the mail, while @_icze4r has been swatted"
"Ernest W. Adams founder of IGDA has previously been accused of blackmailing developers who are also members of #GamerGate with a tweet that read “If you are an Indie Developer and you are supporting #GamerGate, watch what you say. Your future business is at stake. #theinternetisforever"
Says it all.
Seems like an awfully lazy and misguided attempt to appear proactive. Pretty awful way to go about it if you ask me...
School war.
Guilty by association.
Following someone does not automatically mean endorsement.
What a petty thing to do.
