Turtle Rock Studios recently announced that all DLC maps for their upcoming multiplayer shooter will be available for free.
Back in 2016, Turtle Rock announced that support for its 4v1 monster-hunting shooter Evolve would end but fans wouldn't let it die.
From NME: "Evolve: Stage 2 had its multiplayer servers shut down back in 2018, but today players are once again able to matchmake and join peer-to-peer multiplayer games.
Several months ago, peer-to-peer functionality was lost for Evolve Legacy, which was the only way fans of the series could play with friends. Upon a multitude of players reaching out to publisher 2K, the issue was eventually fixed earlier in July. It seems 2K have gone a step further now, and reinstated peer-to-peer and matchmaking functionality for Evolve: Stage 2 after four years."
Today Turtle Rock Studios reveals the launch trailer for the first DLC of their co-op zombie shooter, Back 4 Blood.
YES!Maps should never be behind a paywall imo
Sweet! Played the alpha and it was pretty good!
Gentlemen, you had my curiosity. But now you have my attention.
Found the game boring
I found the game above average. The fact they said in the email that the full retail release will have different game modes intrigued me as I am wondering what game modes a game like this can offer when the entire premise is based on hunters hunting a monster!
I think people claiming that to play the same few levels over and over boring is not giving it enough time or justice to see what the full game offers, as we can only go on a small portion of an Alpha.
However, what really sucked about the Alpha experience that HAS to be sorted by release is the loading/matchmaking times between games. It was taking far too long (8-12 minutes) to go from one game to another one and THAT was incredibly boring, especially if you have a very poor player as the Monster who attacks right from the start rather than runs, because you spend 10 minutes waiting for a game to start, then its all over after 3 minutes, only to have to wait a further 10 mins for another game to start.
I was also a little concerned there could be a bit of cheating going on when the game launches where some gamers will work with the Monster to artificially inflate XP. It was apparently obvious that a short 5 minute game would give hunters very little XP to build up, while a proper 20 minute hunt would award huge XP for various abilities. And this could lead to a group of friends doing some XP leveling up by hunting a friend but not killing him, and instead letting him regenerate armour and begin the cycle again.
Overall it has potential but for gameplay I would award it an above average 7.5/10 based on what was available to play, but the matchmaking lobby times need shortening down to Call Of Duty standards otherwise this game will suck the patience from even the Pope and will drop its score to a broken 4/10 for me.
Having said that, DLC maps being free have got to be a good thing, although having played 2 or 3 maps in the Alpha, the variety of maps is not going to make a very big difference if they are all broadly similar as there was little to differentiate them.
