Large crowds are not the reason for Assassin’s Creed Unity’s framerate issues, says Ubisoft

Ubisoft’s ongoing mission to stabilize the framerate of Assassin’s Creed Unity has resulted in another blog post revealing that crowd sizes are actually not the reason the game doesn’t run very well.

2pacalypsenow3465d ago

The thing that anoys me is the fact that these "devs" act like it ran without issues before launch.

They knew it ran like shit before release.

SnakeCQC3464d ago

They had a review embargo until like 12 hours after release which was insane.

Conzul3464d ago (Edited 3464d ago )

Really, who among us should believe a single thing Ubisoft says anymore?
Well, not I, at least.

I mean, if I was being raped, and Ubisoft came by and said, "Oh sh** you're being raped!"
...I'd actually feel a bit better.

Exactly instead of spending time explaining this how about using that time to improve the crew another ubisoft title that looks like its going to be a glitchy mess. Someone once said if you are explaining then you are not winning

Deividas3464d ago

@xBoneRx

Really?..23fps is now acceptable because it does 3 frames better than the PS4....wow...Your right thats no probem at all. While we are at it, if it was 13fps that would still not be an issue as long as it does a few frames better than Sony right? Low 20's Framerate is NEVER acceptable.

IGiveHugs2NakedWomen3464d ago

@Deividas

I agree.

Next generation games that are below 30 FPS are not worth 60 dollars, it's borderline shovelware.

badz1493464d ago

Ryse comes to mind! all the fuss was "amazing graphics, OMG!!" although the sacrifices to drop the resolution to 900p and horrible fps drop wasn't mentioned as much!

esemce3464d ago (Edited 3464d ago )

Yes if the game is constantly droping frames to the low 20's then it is a unfinished/ unoptimised broken game that was rushed to released for the cash grab of the holiday season.

I think Ubisoft's problem is quanity over quality they are spread too thin making too many games on too many platforms, they should either hire more staff or stagger platform releases, they won't change their lack of Q and A until we hit them where it hurts.

geddesmond3464d ago

I never thought Ubisoft who go on my list of most avoided publisher but the past year its just disappointment after disappointment and now Ubisoft games are on my half price purchase list. WTF is going on over there?

skwidd3464d ago (Edited 3464d ago )

I understand how people were upset with how the game was shipped and I'm one of them. But Ubisoft are now at present dedicating their time to address our concerns and that is the best apology they can give. They are also doing it in a transparent way by telling us and updating us on what they're doing.

I just would like us to take a step back and commend them for what they are now doing. Forgiveness is everything.

I just want to add how much I appreciate the time and effort put into this game. Its truly undeniable what the artistic team did and is an achievement. There's a lot fo blood, sweat and tears that went into this and I want to share my appreciation. Too bad bad business got in the way. Any way, thanks Ubi for now rectifying the errors.

esemce3464d ago

So they take our money for a broken product and we should be greatful that they have said they will try and fix things later.

This thing happens because of people like you.

skwidd3464d ago

@esemce

Interesting how you choose to attack me and say this thing happened because of people like me. I'd like you to elaborate. How is this so and how am I the cause?

You seem to work out of anger which is okay but how is it helpful to continue to be angry when a person has apologized and is taking steps towards amending their actions?

Also, they did not take your money, you gave it away. I'm not defending the mistake they did but am recognizing their efforts. Be thankful to things and let go of your anger. Its not healthy for your sake.

Best wishes! love etc xoxo
PS- Not sure if sarcastic :)

2pacalypsenow3464d ago

Thats because they have no other choice, do you think if they didnt have to patch the game they still would "out of kindness to their costumers"? No they would move on to the next game

nitus103463d ago

You are being too nice here.

Basically Ubisoft’s really dropped the ball here since the types of problems the game is experiencing should have been picked up in Q&A. These sorts of problems could be forgiven on a cheap Indy game as long as it is fixed in the future. For a supposed AAA game these types of problems undermine the credibility of the company.

Ju3463d ago

^^ they are paying the price. The backslash they got was quite big. Rightly so. But at same time, one must recognize what Ubisoft tried to do with the game. They pushed it to the limit. Maybe too far. The customer reaction shows this is probably not the right way to go, despite all their efforts. At the same time, while this feedback is justified, what I read sometimes is really a rant of ungrateful children. There were times there were no video games at all. This is luxury and yet people complain like there is no tomorrow. First world problems, I guess. Demanding more and more is also the reason why maybe they went overboard with what they wanted just to satisfy the "excitement" cravings of todays society. And they failed.

I just hope they'll fix it, because, and I am sorry Ubisoft, I'm not getting it until this is fixed. I think it's one of the best AC games to date and I was looking forward to Unity..but if there was one reason I switched from last gen to this is because I did not want to see 20fps ever again.

skwidd3463d ago

@Ju Totally agree with you. I mean, my reaction to such a thing is I wouldn't buy it and voice my opinion but the backlash has been almost crippling to Ubisoft. I don't want that company to burn in flames when they tried to deliver a grand game for us (though they failed to ship it in the right state).

I was upset about it because I bought the game and thought it was unplayable. As of now for me it IS playable. If they're gonna polish it up then fantastic! I'll be grateful to it rather than keep being angry. Its truly a gorgeous looking and the first true next gen game. I've played for hours mostly admiring the work put into it.

A more positive approach is best for everyone.

Game seems to run fine indoor and (spoilers) fine when one of those random time warp thing happens and there's zero Ai on screen. So....

Outthink_The_Room3464d ago (Edited 3464d ago )

Really? The time anomalies run at good framerates?

Hmmmmmm.....that is VERY INTERESTING. Are there any comparison videos of the anomalies, because I haven't seen full breakdowns of those parts.

Wow, I'm actually very curious about this now. Great point in bringing up the anomalies, definitely something to think about in regards to optimization.

Bubble up for an interesting point that seems to have been overlooked.

Dudebro903464d ago

They run without a hitch. If i had a capture device id upload it. But it never dips below 20 in them.

MasterCornholio3464d ago (Edited 3464d ago )

Its because we are poopy programmers.

DUH!!!

Well its not like they were going to admit that or anything.

Gamerbeyond3464d ago

see what happens when devs/publishers skimp on game testers.

its funny, no problems during developement but at launch its broken, glitchy, laggy, hmmm seems strange.

Karnalsyn3464d ago

Funny they say that, because when I drop into alternate reality paris....which has no crowds....my performance in game is great.

I Played Assassin’s Creed Unity Almost 10 Years Later. It’s (Kinda) Spectacular

Shaz from GL writes: "Assassin’s Creed Unity is looked at as one of the worst in Ubisoft’s iconic franchise. But playing it nearly 10 years later reveals it may just be the best"

Do the NPCs still randomly levitate every now and then? Even years later I noticed they hadn't patched that out

andy8563d ago (Edited 63d ago )

Honestly I loved the PS4 ACs. I'd love next gen ports of Black Flag, Unity and Syndicate

Why Assassin’s Creed Unity remains one of the best games in the series

GF365: "Since the first Assassin’s Creed game, there have been entries up until now. There are more than a few titles that are far from an ideal stealth game. Let’s discuss why 2014’s Assassin’s Creed Unity is one of the best games in the series."

Glitchy as hell and flat story, nah this aint it. AC2, brotherhood and 4 were amazing games in every respective

Furesis541d ago

Yeah i would say brotherhood and 4 were the best for me. I have not played the new ones and Unity was my last one. Seems like i made a good choice.

DarXyde541d ago

I gave up after Revelations. Just couldn't bring myself to care anymore and I got burned out of the gameplay.

Definitely agree on 2 and Brotherhood though. Great games.

YourMommySpoils541d ago

A Ubisoft AC game that's not glitchy? That will be the day.

Knightofelemia542d ago

After constant glitches Arno being boring nah I am good I skipped Unity. I will always like the Ezio trilogy, Black Flag, Rogue, Odyssey, Syndicate. I use to love the franchise but now it feels stale and boring. But my list of favorite entries into the franchise will vary from other players favorite entries.

RaidenBlack541d ago

Odyssey is a really well-made RPG game ... but it ain't a proper AC game, even though its part of the lore

ToddlerBrain541d ago

It’s funny because, at launch, it was universally panned for being unplayable. It’s a great game that holds up today. I’m glad they fixed it.

staticall541d ago

The only good things i remember from Unity are pretty graphics and really good descending mechanics (even though it sometimes didn't make much sense, when your character can drop down from like 10 meter height onto a flagpole perfectly).

Game is glitchy to this day, i was playing in it years after the release date (with all the DLCs) and it's still broken. You had to reload missions too often for my taste (characters do not spawn, you fall through the floor, getting stuck in falling/sitting/aiming animation, hidden blade stop working, assassination target running away at the start of the mission). Story was meh, searching for all the treasures wasn't enjoyable at all. Coop was pretty much useless, i've beaten every coop mission in solo. Helix rifts were awful as well.

Not saying i hate this game or anything, but it got too many problems.

Assassin's Creed (i know it's a controversial opinion) and Assassin's Creed 2 are still great to this day.

anast541d ago

Unity was okay. I prefer Syndicate and Origins.
