Assassin's Creed: Unity Review | Ah, No (Dealspwn)

Dealspwn: "Far from pointing the way forwards for the series, Assassin's Creed: Unity is a model of creative indecision and corporate policy -- a corpulent, broken mess that plays neither to its own strengths nor to its fanbase. There are flashes of promise here, moments when everything comes together, and the game's content package is hefty, but ultimately Unity proves to be a mercifully forgettable disappointment."

Wow they aren't giving it this score over technical issues.... talk about taking the piss then. Although I can't fault his comments on the story not taking the whole revolution or making you that pivotal to it happening or it's events I think that's a good thing I mean AC3 was abit boring and everyone complained about that and it's fuss over historical accuracy-so they toned down your place in historical events and went more AC2 with it more as a back drop and woven into the story which is definitely for a revolution a better idea. What I personally hope is we'll get a sequel set during Napoleon's campaign as that could be really very good. However this review is certainly unnecessarily harsh especially as the myriad of coop missions cover the issue the author has with lack of participation in historical events.

ACU and AC3 are alike in many ways. Both had horrific feature bloat, both had a boring protagonist, both had questionable mechanics.

But ACU is worse. Ubisoft's disruption of balance for the sake of corporate interest (microtransactions, companion apps), the gated content, the lack of incentivised exploratory playgrounds, the nerfed lateral acrobatics, the broken stealth...

...and the bugs. All of them.

Apparently Rogue is pretty good. But then it's Black Flag 1.5. And that's kind of fine.

See I disagree on the protagonist I think he's quite a good character. The game isn't so much about him but about his relationship with Elise. I think that could have been improved and a few more memory sequences towards the end concentrating more on him would have been nice also instead of a time jump in final cutscene abit more after the events of the last mission just to give abit of closure would have been nice. Dead Kings will be interesting to see and i expect a sequel set with Napoleon as the main focus will happen after all we know he's a template from AC2's puzzles and *spoiler* he appears to hide something he found from Arno in the study scene-not sure what exactly but we know he's meant to procure a piece of Eden.*spoiler*

I'm enjoying Unity and think Arno is a good protagonist.

Not had any glitches never been stuck in anything, Just the FPS drops but i soon forgot them.

The new free running engine a delight to play with.

Happy with the game so far.

how about a sequel set in china during its turbulent periods?? imagine the beauty of scaling asian architecture. totally overhauling the fighting engine, adding in different martial arts. letting the player chose which martial art to follow. Or maybe use the chinese civil war as a setting. imagine playing an assasins creed game that feels like The Last Samurai

Game will still sell a s*** ton and they will continue putting it out yearly without really making any interesting changes

I Played Assassin’s Creed Unity Almost 10 Years Later. It’s (Kinda) Spectacular

Shaz from GL writes: "Assassin’s Creed Unity is looked at as one of the worst in Ubisoft’s iconic franchise. But playing it nearly 10 years later reveals it may just be the best"

Do the NPCs still randomly levitate every now and then? Even years later I noticed they hadn't patched that out

Honestly I loved the PS4 ACs. I'd love next gen ports of Black Flag, Unity and Syndicate

Why Assassin’s Creed Unity remains one of the best games in the series

GF365: "Since the first Assassin’s Creed game, there have been entries up until now. There are more than a few titles that are far from an ideal stealth game. Let’s discuss why 2014’s Assassin’s Creed Unity is one of the best games in the series."

Glitchy as hell and flat story, nah this aint it. AC2, brotherhood and 4 were amazing games in every respective

Furesis550d ago

Yeah i would say brotherhood and 4 were the best for me. I have not played the new ones and Unity was my last one. Seems like i made a good choice.

DarXyde550d ago

I gave up after Revelations. Just couldn't bring myself to care anymore and I got burned out of the gameplay.

Definitely agree on 2 and Brotherhood though. Great games.

YourMommySpoils550d ago

A Ubisoft AC game that's not glitchy? That will be the day.

Knightofelemia551d ago

After constant glitches Arno being boring nah I am good I skipped Unity. I will always like the Ezio trilogy, Black Flag, Rogue, Odyssey, Syndicate. I use to love the franchise but now it feels stale and boring. But my list of favorite entries into the franchise will vary from other players favorite entries.

RaidenBlack550d ago

Odyssey is a really well-made RPG game ... but it ain't a proper AC game, even though its part of the lore

ToddlerBrain550d ago

It’s funny because, at launch, it was universally panned for being unplayable. It’s a great game that holds up today. I’m glad they fixed it.

The only good things i remember from Unity are pretty graphics and really good descending mechanics (even though it sometimes didn't make much sense, when your character can drop down from like 10 meter height onto a flagpole perfectly).

Game is glitchy to this day, i was playing in it years after the release date (with all the DLCs) and it's still broken. You had to reload missions too often for my taste (characters do not spawn, you fall through the floor, getting stuck in falling/sitting/aiming animation, hidden blade stop working, assassination target running away at the start of the mission). Story was meh, searching for all the treasures wasn't enjoyable at all. Coop was pretty much useless, i've beaten every coop mission in solo. Helix rifts were awful as well.

Not saying i hate this game or anything, but it got too many problems.

Assassin's Creed (i know it's a controversial opinion) and Assassin's Creed 2 are still great to this day.

Unity was okay. I prefer Syndicate and Origins.
