Is an ICO 2 and Shadow of the Colossus 2 mixed game coming to PS3?

In an interview with Fumito Ueda at the Nordic Game 08 event, he mentions being at work on a game that combines both the graphics and gameplay seen in his previous games ICO (2001) and its prequel Shadow of the Colossus (2005). VGB looks into the questoin: "Could the lead designer of those PlayStation 2 games be at work on a mixed sequel for the PlayStation 3?"

It doesn't matter what they do, we know it going to be great. Can't wait to see it in action, or better yet, play it

Someone slap me, I just read: Is an ICO 2 and Shadow of the Colossus 2 mixed game coming to PS3? :)

NO_PUDding5808d ago (Edited 5808d ago )

We don't need to slap you.

As far as we know it's called ICO3.

And it won't be a thign liek ICO or Shadow of the Colossus, and this article is just gettign everyone's hopes up, I read the extensive interview from the Nordic Games Conference like the week after it happened (this is old now) and there is nothing he is giving away, I think they asked him directly, IIRC.

EDIT I know Issun34, he's called WanderIssun though. :D

eagle215808d ago (Edited 5808d ago )

All we know is they are working on a PS3 game rumored to be titled "Last Canyon"?

And we have seen only one real screenshot, showing a chain connected to a mysterious hole or underground....

http://www.scei.co.jp/synth...

they may have plans for this as well, it's just a rumor....an exciting one!

hack64645808d ago

Please be true. Please be true. Oh god please let this be true!

v1c1ous5808d ago

we're not psychics. stop hyping the game before we even have any clear news on it.

yes the ICO team is genius, but so is free radical and looked at what happened with Haze b/c of hype.

don't screw it up for yourselves.

don't confuse this with me dissing the ICO team either. i personally hold SotC as one of my top 10 games of all times. i LOVED their games and hold them in a high regard, but don't do this guys. it's dumb.

Dir_en_grey5808d ago

A while back (beginning of the year I think) when I was searching for info on Siren 3 before they announced New Translation, I read from Team Ico Gamers about the info that Sony has like 10 secret projects and Siren was one of them.
Along side that was Team Ico working on 2 games for Sony.

Atleast one is confirmed by Famitsu, anybody here got inside source of the other game they are working on? Or at least confirm they are working on 2 games?

NO_PUDding5808d ago

@Eagle21 : Last canyon was bull, and also the rumour that it was based on Nordic mythologies was bull (a suggestion in a community I was part of suggested it, and it was taken out of context). But we have seen one screenshot, that's correct.

@Hack6464 : It's real, but only listen to what Fumito Ueda says. He's not confirming anything really, about it being a mixture, and I sure as hell bet it will be something fresh and new again.

@v1c1ous : Speak for yourself, and don't tell people what to do. We can get hyped, because this developer is different. We won't be expecting more, because what we receive will be new, we won't have expectations, it's not a sequel per se. And also, Team ICO follows rules, and has passion to create and execute a game professionally. Free Radical struck lucky with TimeSplitters, and as soon as they try something serious, it fell flat on it's face, and it clearly wasn't executed with passion.

Dir_en_grey : There are 2 projects (that's confirmed), one is suspected to be a PSN project, and if not then the team is way too small to be working on two big budget titles at once so one will be purely conceptual.

SOTC was not a game...it was a piece of Art

dachiefsman5808d ago

I agree. Like SToC but not ICO. Couldn't get into that one.

Black_Jack5808d ago (Edited 5808d ago )

....and so much more, the sheer mystery of what you were doing and how it built up to the climax (and anti climax for that matter) was pure brilliance.

the game itself in a way was simple in essence. but putting the whole thing together just made me feel so absorbed in what i was doing, and i believed in the cause. thats what is missing in this generation of gaming we're in.

hopefully team ICO can bring this back!

p.s. best horse animations iv ever seen.

bubble nbnt

NO_PUDding5808d ago

It was totally simple. Ueda never wanted to embellish it.

It's gotta be the future for games. It's less narrative heavy, and more playable or objective, becuase it has the objective laid out for you at the start, and you can play it all in one sitting if you know how. But it's still got meaning.

Clever stuff.

Indeed, best horse animations, but also best horse controls. Most realistic, and really give you a sense of a horse, rather than a car.

OMG...No way...?!?!?! Someone confirm this or else i wont crap my pants...

Closing5808d ago

ICO, and SotC stories are connected?

AlienGorilla5808d ago

That's all I have to say to that.

Closing5808d ago (Edited 5808d ago )

Cool those are two games I really should have played. I Only got to play up to the first boss in SotC. Those two, God of War 2, and Okami are the only last gen games I still need to play.

RiseOfMonster5808d ago

SotC is a prequel to ICO.

*SPOILER*

When you beat SotC the horned child from ICO is born and then in ICO the horned child has to help the princess (from SotC) escape.

Azurite5808d ago

*SPOILER*

Actually, I don't think it's the same child.
In ICO it sounded like there had been many horned children born in the past.
I think Shadow of the Colossus was a long time before the events of ICO.

lodossrage5808d ago

See when you guys refer to the horns on both of the lead characters of the games. At the end of SOTC, when the main character is reborn, he is BORN with the horns.

The main character of ICO only has the horns as head wear. In short, you can't use the fact that both characters have horns as a basis of the two games being connected.

v1c1ous5808d ago

said that while the 2 games share a specific similarity, they are more spiritual cousins rather than the same universe.

Closing5808d ago (Edited 5808d ago )

@vicious: Yeah, I remember reading that somewhere that's why I was confused by this article stating SotC was a prequel.

Adamalicious5808d ago (Edited 5808d ago )

I think if you've actually played both of the games the connection between the two seems pretty obvious. There is a society that banished boys born with horns to a castle - and yes Ico was born with horns, they are not just a hat - because the horns are believed to be an ill omen or a curse. Now, where could they have gotten the idea that babies being born with horns are cursed? Maybe from the boy (Wander from SoTC) who went into the forbidden kingdom and released Dormin (pretty much The Devil) from his prison, destroying himself in the process only to be reborn as the first horned child. Fact: Fumito Ueda said that both games take place in the same world and that Wander sired the line of horned boys. There is abosolutely no question that SoTC is the prequel to Ico.

RiseOfMonster5808d ago

Things have gotten a little foggy. I guess I'm off the replay both games but this time SotC first then ICO.

NO_PUDding5808d ago

Lot's of incorrect facts beign given here. Lucky I am a knowitall.

SotC WAS a prequel,a nd was set in the same universe. Ueda left it to be vague at the beginning, but then wanted to reveal that they were indeed the same universe.

Wander in SotC started the line of horned boys. Many assumptions are made about the story though, so you have to play it and make your own judgement or stay impartial like me.

But ICO came an unspecified time after SotC, maybe short enoguh, so that the Queen in ICO was actually Mono from Shadow of the Colossus, or maybe there is a lot more that we don't know, and which I doubt we will be told in ICO3.

I think Ueda will never tell us that part, I don't even think he's definate.

Daman Shelley from NoobFeed writes - Dragon's Dogma is truly a one-of-a-kind game, and there really is no other game like it, but there are a few that come close. gold_drake127d ago

cant wait for it, feb and march are busy busy months ha.

SovereignSnaKe127d ago

I can still hear the title screen music in my head after nearly 12 years. Loved every minute of it.

MrNinosan127d ago

I have no issues filling my time til DD2.
Granblue Fantasy: Relink, Infinite Wealth and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will probably me more than enough.
More terrified I won't be done in time.

DivineHand125127d ago

Try not to burn yourself out before the game releases. This is going to be a long and immersive RPG like the first one.

The games in this article are all great and I believe the people who are excited for Dragons Dogma 2 probably already played most of those games.

For now, I recommend you prepare yourself for long play sessions if you will be picking up Dragons Dogma at launch.
