Halo: Master Chief Collection; Raising The Bar For Remasters | GameInformer

Master Chief Collection raises the bar for remastered compilations by allowing players to experience these games as they really were, and how our memory has colored them over the years. Whatever your main incentive for getting The Master Chief Collection may be – replay the story, relive the multiplayer – you won’t be disappointed with this revival.

How is it raising the bar, because of 60fps & 1080p, pfft, what about any new content, it gets repetitive playin the same stuff over & over, halo 2 has tonnes of content that never made it into the final game, how about we get that instead of just sparkly graphics

xDHAV0K24x3473d ago

because what they're doing with this has never been done on console (idk about pc). 100 plus maps across 4 games? at that price? insane. prob the best deal since the Orange Box

Halo2ODST23473d ago

We alrreaddy have those games, its not a "deal" when its the most expensive halo game, but with the same content we had a decade ago

darthv723473d ago

@halo... so do you feel the same about remasters in general or only this one? other notable remastered compilations would include ratchet & clank, Jak & daxter, Sly cooper and the God of war games.

All of which were remasters of their originals but compiled into a nice convenient and very cost effective package. nothing really "new" other than a nice face lift on the graphics. That is generally what a remaster is.

Take the old formula and clean it up and improve a few things here and there. What's not to like about that?

2pacalypsenow3473d ago (Edited 3473d ago )

except the orange box had Portal, episode 2, and team fortress 2

3 of those games were brand new vs the halo collection all the games are old and people already played them .

Thats like when Steam releases 30-50 games for $50-$70 except those games are like 10 years old and have no value other than sentimental value just like The halo collection so people can re visit the great Halo 2

strangeaeon3473d ago

If it included new content it would be a new game, this is a remaster. You could always just rent it to see what you think, i have read it feels like a very different game at 60 fps.

spicelicka3473d ago

Never go full retard please, it gets repetitive? This is a goddamned REMASTER not a new game! The whole point is to keep it the same.

They're already making a new game and it's called halo 5, use some common sense.

Cash grabbing DLC incoming confirmed.

Torque_CS_Lewith3473d ago

Yeah, after 100 maps right out the gate, any DLC they charge for is well earned.
To quote your private message to me (after pm'ing me and getting your behind handed to you): "don't you have a game to play?"

gangsta_red3473d ago

100 maps, 4 games, all modes, all features, even a fricken show and even a beta access to Halo 5 confirmed.

WeAreLegion3473d ago

Raising the bar, but giving it less than The Last of Us. Weird. They're both 10/10 in my book.

bsquwhere3473d ago

When I get an Xbox One Ill pick it up. The issue I have is that Xbox Fanboys made fun of The Last Of Us Remastered, but when MS does it, its the reason to own a X1. I mean Halo (1) was remastered for the 360, now its a remastered edition of a remastered edition. I love Halo 2, 3 and 4 were ok. I admit there's a lot of content and I'd love to play it so if anyone has about $500 I could borrow..($500= Xbox One, MCC, and Xbox live.) Until then lets hope that theres an Uncharted collection for us PS gamers.

@bsquwhere & @WeAreLegion

No doubt this is a good compilation of Halo games...

But the hypocrisy is astonishing! The amount of flak Sony/PS4 received several months ago regarding Remasters of PS3 games...yet here MS offers 3 old games and 1 recent game as a remaster package, and literally, the whole industry and fanboys lap it up!

I don't give a Rats tutu if I get 1'000 disagree's either...I'd re-write this all over again!

WeAreLegion3473d ago

You know how it works, dude. There are idiots on both sides of this thing, trolling articles about exclusives. It's ridiculous, but it happens.

Foehammer3473d ago (Edited 3473d ago )

You might want to read your own comment as you have essentially answered your own question.

TLOU was a rezed up version of a 1 year old game. Let's compare the effort to a rezed up version of the 2 year old Halo 4.

NOW comes the difference:

A rezed up 7 year old Halo 3

+

A rezed up 13 year old Halo CE, yes it was remastered before but not to 1080p

+

A rezed up 10 year old Halo 2

+

Rezed up Maps

+

New Terminals

+

New Skulls

+

Full motion capture Cinematics

+

New Vehicle

+

New Ranking system

+

New Play-lists

+

Access to the Beta

All in all

THE MOTHER OF VALUE IN A VIDEO GAME

kevnb3472d ago

To be honest if they ported these games at less than 1080p it would be like releasing them on pc locked at 720p or less.

Cutting Room Floor

343:

We have a special treat for you this month.

Something that becomes part of the great journey of many Halo fans is learning about all the stuff that didn’t make it into the games over the years.

When ambitious and talented developers are up against the challenges posed by limited time and resources, having to make tough decisions about what best serves the final product, many things end up in the horrifying tenth circle of Hell which Dante deemed too terrifying to tell us about: the cutting room floor.

I am so hyped for this bring halo 3,4, and 5 cut content too.

LordoftheCritics676d ago (Edited 676d ago )

2 years each dev time.

Add another 2 for co-op cut content.

Noskypeno676d ago

The stuff cut from halo 3 is like a game in itself. I would like to see the level that the map Guardian was based off of, make it next Gen only with the slipspace engine from 2018.

XiNatsuDragnel676d ago

That would be awesome Halo 3 cut edition would be fire

"When ambitious and talented developers are up against the challenges posed by limited time and resources"

Literally nothing in that sentence is anyway relatable to 343i.
