Gamespot: Guitar Hero On Tour Review

Cumbersome controls and several other shortcomings make this guitar permanently out of tune.

The Good

* Most of the songs are master tracks
* Multiplayer modes are pretty good.

The Bad

* Grip attachment can be extremely uncomfortable
* Music fidelity is poor
* A total of 25 songs won't last you very long
* Guitar Hero without a larger, fake guitar isn't much fun.

Well they tested the waters and they made a littler version of the game... This review isn't to favorable but still not horrible. Wonder how it'll sell

Seems like they were expecting the full head-on guitar hero. Which is stupid, it's supposed to be a Guitar Hero anywhere. So expecting more than 25 songs or high quality audio from the nintendo DS is pretty stupid.

I bought it (for a 10 hour plane flight to england) and it is great. IGN gave it 9 out of 10 and the game itself is great for a handheld.

I dont know what these guys were thinking.

I don't care I think its awesome, sure 25 tracks isn't very long...but it works great.

Guitar Hero may be milking it a bit but it's a pretty good milk...

I mean a guitar Hero on DS, with an attachment? I gotta hand it to them. Wonder what else they plan on doing after seeing the Guitar Hero (Console-version[s]) change so much.

Still on the fence on whether or not I will actually get this.

Why did IGN say that this game almost never misread an input, but Gamespot said the opposite? Same thing with the audio quality. IGN said it was incredible for the DS, but Gamespot said it was poor. I am a little confused. Did Gamespot assume this would work like GHIII on the 360 while hooked up to surround sound or something?

I definitely saw this as a love it or hate it affair. I think I'm getting a bit put out on guitar games for now that this slightly watered down version would probably not hold my attention for very long. I'm not saying it's a failure by any stretch, in fact I think it looks as though the conversion was very well done and it's about as good as Guitar Hero on the go could be (shy of the gimmiky feeling controls like shouting "rock out" for star power or whatever it is you say).

However, I am a little shocked that they didn't try and put it on the PSP. I know that the DS has a much greater install base, but I think the PSP crowd would be more willing to go for something like that. The PSP hardware numbers are there. Also, this is the best type of game they could release for the PSP because regardless of all of the pirating going on, requiring the special guitar hardware would make that a moot point. The larger space could support higher quality audio and more tracks. Heck, with the PS3 and online PSP PC store, they have a very viable vehicle for downloadable content as well. I don't know about the logistics of getting the hardware to comfortably fit on the PSP, it just seems a bit like a missed opportunity.
