Blane talks to Saleem Dabbous from Ko-Op Mode about their experimental approach to game design, how their studio functions, and their upcoming game GNOG.
Rather than functioning like a traditional studio where the entire team is working on completing a game, Ko-Op Mode members are each working on their own unique games and can help other team members as needed. When team members are not working on their own games, they are supporting the studio by taking on contract work.
Some examples of Ko-Op’s experimental game design philosophy can be seen in Please Don’t, Space Dog, a convention exclusive game where players use a MIDI sound board and an Oculus Rift to pilot a shuttle in space, and GNOG, a game that has players solving puzzles inside the “Gnoggins” of monsters.
The Humble Day of the Devs Bundle 2022 just launched. It includes sixteen items including Psychonauts, Brutal Legend, Broken Age, and more.
GNOG from Double Fine and KO_OP Mode is coming to the Epic Games Store for free from Aug. 8-15. This 3D puzzler is a crazy psychadellic experience.
Gnog doesn’t ask much of its players. The pastel puzzler is easy on the eyes and easy on the pocketbook. It doesn’t last long, either. You can knock the whole thing out in a couple of hours or less. Its puzzles consistently capture the satisfaction of fitting a square peg in a square hole without much challenge to speak of. It is, put simply, one hell of a chill time.
