This would be HUGE if true. Don't know if the game will be good or not as Rare hasn't done anything close to recapturing their Nintendo glory days since they joined Microsoft. However Banjo Kazooie and all the old rare games are all such memorable experiences for me i would probably be too curious to resist the purchase.
Hopefully Microsoft can resurrect some other franchises like diddykong racing maybe or conker

I'd like to see rare take a stab at a smash bros/ps all star battle royale style brawler. Definitely include rare characters like banjo, Conker, joanna dark, kameo, and mix in some xbox guys like master chief, an xbl avatar, someone from fable, marcus fenix. Not sure who else, but definitely fill the roster out.

I would agree, although I would imagine Microsoft wants to round out their family offerings so Banjoe would be a perfect fit for that.

Conker has a cartoon quality but the crude humor, foul imagery and sexual innuendo would not lend itself to family friendly. but hopefully someday soon we get a good conker sequel. I enjoyed its movie parodies (matrix).

3D platformers are rare, but they arent niche by any means. Most are more accessible for all ages, so I can see Banjo Kazooie pulling in some good numbers.

ey i think Banjo Kazooie is probably now considered a niche title.

look at how well the last one sold? Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts sold around 730k and i believe that was with a much larger install base for the 360.

if a new Banjo Kazooie is true its hardly a system seller unless the gameplay and new interested elements completely intrigues enough people, but most xbox gamers will just give it a passing glance.

Rare needed to do something new and fresh. They should have combined all their ips together into one game (kingdom hearts style) and have online elements like destiny

Rare did say they were working on a completely new AAA IP so there may be hope yet for a new addition.
And you have to think that Banjo released well into the 360 lifespan, so it was probably overlooked due to some other great releases at the time. X1 simply doesnt have any other offerings for a great 3d platformer right now. That alone may push sales.
All I know is that I will certainly be keeping my eye on these characters.

Yes, it is 2015 and Nintendo now focuses on the market differently.

But, that does not change that Banjo was a top 10 seller for game consoles at the time. And to sell 3.65m copies of a game at the time you had to appeal to a lot of gamers both casual and core.

Just because it is 2015, it doesn't mean they cannot modernize a franchise and bring it back successfully... Killer Instinct was a Rare franchise where the last game was 1996... Last year it was brought back as part of the X1 launch and it was one of the highest rated and most successful launch games for X1... It got such wide acclaim from core gamers that it is now part of MLG.

If MS can do Banjo the way that Nintendo does Mario/Donkey Kong Country platformers with their own innovations and multi-player, this will be a very good addition to deliver a diversified first party lineup for X1...

Either way, I think Microsoft is going to really let loose with Rare and revive the studio this generation.

It might be interesting to see how Microsoft handles their studios, unlike Sony who have a bunch of different studios. It seems like Microsoft is using less studios but more teams within each studio to make games.

I honestly don't remember, but didn't MS open up a bunch of satellite studios recently? I think one of them was called LEAP Studios or some-such.
I'm hoping they're doing what you're saying and expanding teams they have. Would be nice for 343i to work on non-Halo stuff, if the team desires, to keep burn-out low. Allow Rare to actively work on 3 things at once, etc.
It would be AMAZING to see every major MS studio releasing a big game per year, as opposed to cycling through teams year-over-year (last year Turn10, this year and next 343i, then Blacktuskin 2016...)

I didn't like BK: Nuts & Bolts because the game play gets darn right repetitive and frustrating at times. The story is.....awful.I think that's the reason why most gamers didn't like Nuts & Bolts, including myself. Banjo on n64 was fun. But remember n64 hardware had limited ram.

Though, I will admit, the core game play can stay the same; its the art direction I'm more concerned about. I'm afraid if Rare decides to make Banjo exactly like the original they might run in to a creative barrier because of the amount of RAM they have to work with.

I think it would be better idea to take a different approach with the Banjo franchise in my opinion.

This is all messed up. Banjo has had 3 games on the major consoles. The last one was so complex to work out that maybe you're still playing it. Conker has had 1 (as Live and reloaded was essentially the same single player game as the N64 game).

I don't claim that Conker sold quite as well as Banjo. But Rare could do with thinking outside of the box a bit more.

They could have been looking at Naughty Dog's Uncharted or The Last of Us, Insomniac's Sunset Overdrive.

They could have made an adventure out of this-
once where you can choose to play as one of many Rare characters e.g. Cooper out of Grabbed by the ghoulies, Conker, Joanne Dark.

A bit like World of Illusion on the Megadrive was, there could be a core game that every player experiences regardless of their character but then totally different levels depending on the character you chose. Plus it could have branching choices within that character choice itself like a choose your own adventure. Potentially, you could have at least a dozen different playthroughs.
It doesn't have to be a massive game, just one packed with wacky set pieces, stunts, a few puzzles. Like Rare's Uncharted. A bit Perfect Dark but also some creepy levels.

Just Banjo again? Rare, you are sitting on so many IPs. Mix it up a bit.

I can see your point. I'd be happy to see a mash-up adventure game with the JetForce Gemini trio, BK, Conker, and other non-Rare characters like Blink. Throw in some Blast Corps elements and I'm sold.

Having said that. I'd also have no problem with another BK game in the style of the original two on N64... IF MS could find a dev or rebuild Rare to have the talent and the humour of the originals. It's 15 years since Banjo Tooie, and 6 since Nuts and Bolts - so time is right for more BK!
