Epic Games Asks Unreal Engine 4 Logo Removed from Hatred’s Mass Murder-Driven Trailer

Today Polish developer Destructive creations launched the first trailer of its upcoming PC game “Hatred,” causing extremely negative reactions from many, since it basically depicts one minute and a half of mass murder.

The trailer also includes the Unreal Engine 4 logo, since the engine is being used to create the game. Apparently Epic Games doesn’t really want to be associated with the themes depicted, and they’re requesting the logo to be pulled, as we mentioned in a statement.

In GTA the objective of the game is to become rich and powerful taking down other gangs.

In Hatred the objective of the game is to kill innocent civilians with no other objective. Now that is retarded.

I can imagine an artist being told, "If I had known you were going to paint that kind of picture then I wouldn't have sold you the brushes and canvas. You are not allowed to tell people your bought your painting supplies from us."

It's no different to if they put the McDonalds logo on it. Just because you buy a product from something doesn't give you permission to use everything they own.

If Epic has licensed their engine for the creation of this masterpiece, i assume use of their logo is part of said license.

Also, they should maybe be more discerning on who they give a license to. If they don't like the idea, they can decline their license... but not after the fact.

Games premises can change throughout the course of a production. Who is to say that the premise of this game was slightly different at the start? We don't know enough of the details to make assumptions.

They're not censoring anything. They just don't want to be affiliated with something that is clearly only going to generate huge amounts of negative pr.

Morganfell: it would be a form of censorship if they had anything to do with the development of the game aside from the use of their engine which is open to any developers for any purposes.
It's a smart business move to avoid becoming associated to a questionable product that they had no part in creating. People will remember Epic but they likely won't remember Destructive Creations.

If they went out of their way to stop the game from being developed on Unreal 4, that would be censorship. Asking developers not to use their logo is just Epic covering their asses.

Just saw the trailer. This game is so unnecessary in my opinion. It looks like it's only coming out for the PC. However, the media is going to loop this game with consoles as well. It won't just be FOX news. The more liberal outlets like CNN will chime in too; they've done that on in the past whenever a mass shooting involving a teenager is involved. It really just creates bad publicity for us gamers, and it's not like they will sell millions of copies either like the COD series. In the end, our hobby suffers public ridicule from some attention-whore no-name developers.
