Epic Games Asks Unreal Engine 4 Logo Removed from Hatred’s Mass Murder-Driven Trailer

Today Polish developer Destructive creations launched the first trailer of its upcoming PC game “Hatred,” causing extremely negative reactions from many, since it basically depicts one minute and a half of mass murder.

The trailer also includes the Unreal Engine 4 logo, since the engine is being used to create the game. Apparently Epic Games doesn’t really want to be associated with the themes depicted, and they’re requesting the logo to be pulled, as we mentioned in a statement.

LOL, Fox News and other news outlets are going to have anti-gaming buffet with Hatred.

xer03497d ago (Edited 3497d ago )

ba-haha, a company that makes it's coin from violent video games.., suddenly doesn't want to be associated with violence???

This is the end of Epic my friends :/

Theres a big difference in the context of killing armed enemy forces as opposed to mowing down dozens of harmless unarmed innocent civilians.

delicia3497d ago

@Shiny
Like in Grand Theft Auto?

IxWoodstockxI3497d ago

@delicia
In GTA the objective of the game is to become rich and powerful taking down other gangs.

In Hatred the objective of the game is to kill innocent civilians with no other objective. Now that is retarded.

Gazondaily3497d ago

Mate, GTA 5 is basically a videogame version of Scarface.

Hatred is a video game version of Columbine. Its messed up. Seriously.

badz1493497d ago

the game is like anti-Dead Nation! top down shooter with humans but they are running away from you. kinda sick! I mean literally sick!

starchild3497d ago (Edited 3497d ago )

@ Septic

Yep, I'm all for videogames as art and freedom of expression, but Hatred goes too far for me. I don't want it to be banned, but I personally don't want to play it.

DevilOgreFish3496d ago (Edited 3496d ago )

Graphics look great, subject is a little too controversial for my tastes. i wish they would change the enemies to demons, would make more sense. such a waist of good talent.

This is wrong, it's just the game with a bit fun:D

denawayne3497d ago (Edited 3497d ago )

Just watched the trailer. Pretty intense.

RyanShutup3497d ago

Good on them! It's their right as a company to decline usage of their logo, can't wait to see all the hypocrites who were defending "freedom of speech" on behalf of the developers in the previous articles change their tunes now that Epic has decided to exercise theirs!

...tourists.

Looks like the protagonist from The Darkness.

Fans??? This is done by one person

WoodsRatesGames1103d ago

Someone else was commissioned to do the music and another person modelled the batmobile. Links to all involved are included in the article.

They should have been made a batman game for the best batman movie. This looks amazing and now I must watch the movie.

Am I crazy or is there an Unreal Engine 5 now? Why promote old tech?

waverider1124d ago

I really dont understand either? isnt the Unreal Engine 5 already available for studios? arent they already working with it?

masterfox1124d ago

UE5 Is for PS5 only, deal with it! :D

***runs away from this thread with pride!**

Tacoboto1124d ago

UE5 is not released yet and developers for years will still make UE4 games because that's where their tools and customizations are.

Mortal Kombat still uses UE3. Mass Effect Legendary Edition is also still UE3.

Magog1124d ago

That more of an embarrassing indictment of those devs than a reason to promote old software.

Tacoboto1124d ago

Embarrassing indictment? You know nothing of software development then.

Spenok1124d ago (Edited 1124d ago )

Because a ridiculous amount of the industry still uses 4, and because no, 5 is not out yet. They said it would launch later this year.

AuraAbjure1124d ago

Companies still use Unreal Engine 3.

Really impressive tech but I don’t even notice all of these benefits in real life, never mind being chased by zombies in a video game. Rather devote resources to resolution and frame rate.

Magog1124d ago

If you suddenly stopped casting reflections in a mirror I think you would notice.

Amplitude1124d ago (Edited 1124d ago )

Edit: i misread this.

Einhander19711122d ago

Yes after seeing the Unreal 5 ps5 reveal, I thought that's where we were heading. But saying that I have read various articles that suggest its easy for developers to still work on Unreal 4 and carry everything over to Unreal 5 when needed, we shall see.
