Lackluster...LOL

It's one of the best horror games in a long time. Perfect...no but the best we've gotten lately.

Xaphy3504d ago

Is the game scary? I miss having some good scares while playing a game. Pt was good but too short :(

TheOpenWorlder3504d ago (Edited 3504d ago )

I got it like 5 minutes ago myself. So far its not scary....kind of surprised. The main guy looks kind of like the joker LOL THought id post this review here though. i read them a lot

-Foxtrot3504d ago (Edited 3504d ago )

Really depends on what you define as scary

I think it is based on the suspense and panic when someone is chasing after you, when you trigger enemies to come out and your in the open or in a closed corridor with only a bed to hide under and the constant panic when your facing a wave of enemies yet you have hardly no ammo, little health and your sprint is fading out.

PT was scary because it was loaded with jump moments to make you shit yourself

Ezz20133504d ago (Edited 3504d ago )

i'm playing it now (Ps3 Version)

the game is scary
much more scary than Survival games like TLOU or RE4 ...it's Dead Space scary level for me.
it's not on par with TLOU gameplay or story or acting or gfx at all
But i find it better than Re4 in all of those

and there is one big scary MF will chase you
remind me alot of RE3 Nemesis...but of course not as badass as Nemesis

so far it's Awesome game for me
ohhh and the music in the intro was really good

Unspoken3501d ago

Scary would probably be Aliens:Isolation with Oculus Rift.

Dead Space had more tension and more WTF moments over what I have played on The Evil Within, but I'm still going to finish it for the Resident Evil nostalgia. AI is kinda "meh" though

I've watched enough Anime that the Japanese have to do some really creepy stuff to get me to jump. They will have to really play on our sense of fear through more than just sight.

-Foxtrot3504d ago

As I said

Best horror game...in a long time

ghostface93501d ago

after chapter 3 is when it steps it up a notch the outside stuff is intro stuff getting you used to the mechanics

1nsomniac3501d ago (Edited 3501d ago )

It's not scary or one of the best horror games AT ALL BY ANY STRETCH OF THE IMAGINATION!! - I can't stress that enough. It's the ultimate cheesefest. Its more comedy half the time than horror, it's just silly.

I have no idea what he's smoking but whatever it is it would surly make this game a little more interesting I'm sure.

I thought it was a 6.5/10 based on the understanding that you were looking for a kind of cheesy horror experience in the first place not the horror game it was advertised as. So a 6.6/10 is pretty fair in IMO.

TheOpenWorlder3504d ago

I think when you have little ammo, sprint running out quickly and the enemies are barely dying with 5 shots to me that isn't scary at all. i dont know what you mean about the "panic". i mean to me thats jump scare type stuff like the reviewer mentioned. but i dont think its crazy good

NixonMonoxide3501d ago

As someone who's currently playing the game and enjoying it, I can say this review has some spot on points about the game. I probably won't think it's a 6/10 when I finish it, but I understand why others will find it lackluster.

It really feels more gorefest action/horror than actual horror, and that's fine with me. There's just too many recycled horror tropes so far for this to even compare to the likes of Dead Space 1/2, Siren BC, etc.

That's fine. It's still enjoyable. It may be one of the best we've gotten in a long time Foxtrot, but that really isn't saying much for the genre I'm afraid.

So many recent titles, are bloody walking simulators like Alien Iso, and I clearly chose this. Hopefully more games like this, that are even more polished will be released.

Concertoine3501d ago (Edited 3501d ago )

This game isnt perfect but this is way better than the setpiece simulator that is dead space 2. The structure for the dead space games is awful. Every now and then someone gets on the radio and spews some technobabble, then you go into subsector x1 and refuse bio-generator B. Rinse and repeat. Obviously alive body strewn here, health packs in every nook and cranny.

Dead space 1 i can praise as a good "starting point", but the sequels i cant praise for failing to evolve on a horror level.

Evil within is at the very least a difficult game where you fear death unlike DS.

purpleblau3501d ago

It's not scary, more like RE shooting zombies. You want the real scary game? Look for Silent Hills.

Sir_Baron3501d ago

If by best you mean worst then yes I agree.

Evil Within has to be the most disappointing title release since Aliens Colonial Marines.

The game isn't scary at all, makes the dialogue in Resident Evil seem like a masterpiece.

6.6 is probably the highest this game deserve.

The only Horror about this game is that it got released by someone who made one of the best Horror Games Resident Evil.

shadowraiserx3501d ago

Resident Evil original and RE Remake are not scary at all too ,they got dark themes but they are more about survivor and puzzle solving with a theme of horror, we were kids back in the day if you put a 10 or 12 year old to play The Evil Within they will say the same thing we say about Resident Evil.Devs have to used other methods to really scare people.

Isn't this the same website that tried to pass off Watch Dogs beta footage as the full game for a review?

Yeah. Real credible.

So they write fake reviews because they don't have the credibility with publishers to receive review copies? That's low, and it sounds like your better off not being there anyway. It almost seems like publishers could take them to court.

Bioshock 1 only has the intro though, would you kindly pick up that radio? :p

Levii_92377d ago

Original FEAR is a goddamn masterpiece

ModsDoBetter377d ago

Was playing Alien: Isolation again a few weeks ago, still holds up and the AI is incredible.

F.E.A.R. was another amazing game, shame the series went downhill with 2 and then fell off entirely with F3AR.

Couldn’t get into Fatal Frame, bought the remaster on PS5 and just…couldn’t.

DeathTouch377d ago

Fatal Frame 2 is an underrated masterpiece.

gold_drake377d ago

omg that game freaked me out haha

Abnor_Mal376d ago

One of my favorite games, would love to see a remake.

gold_drake377d ago

i still think Haunting Ground is one of the best.
