Alone in the Dark - Msxbox-World review

Msxbox-World writes: "Fans of the series and those of you who aren't inclined to head for the skip feature in the store prior to purchasing, will undoubtedly enjoy the good parts of the game for what they offer, but will still be shocked at the game's overall lack of polish."

What the hell is up with scores lately, that game isn't that bad. :(

Might buy it on PlLAYSTATION 3 though, if they fix the bugs.

meepmoopmeep5809d ago

with the extra time given for the PS3 version i hope the developers fix any of the problems that the reviewers have found. I'm still looking forward to this game but it's on the border of rent or buy until i've finished reading all of the reviews, especially the PS3 version reviews to see if they've fixed any issues.

TheMART5809d ago

Well, IF the PS3 version is ever released. They might stop all production after these bad reviews and probably bad sales.

kingme715809d ago

This is the advantage to getting a game later. You always wind up with a better version and any DLC included. People moan and groan about getting a game delayed, but you wind up with something better, even when it goes 360 to PC. Look at Bioshock, ME, Oblivion even Overlord.

I have no doubt they will improve the game especially with Phil at the helm for the PS3 release.

White-Sharingan5809d ago (Edited 5809d ago )

that didnt stop koei from releasing Fatal Inertia eh?

plus Phil Harrison is there; so I highly doubt it

The bugs aint the problem, its the strange camera angles and slow stupid response. That cant be fixed. Also its not the extra time taken on the ps3 version, its the same old multi-format story, the ps3 version will be a port, and a jaggie one at that

meepmoopmeep5809d ago

lol, true, but i'll try to be optimistic.
seems like almost all reviewers are saying the same thing though.

rhood0225809d ago

actually, they can fix those problems. If the PS3 version is still being coded or reworked the developers can make the necessary changes in order to improve the overall experience. The PS3 version hasn't gone "gold" so to speak. Just because the 360 version is done doesn't mean the PS3 is beyond hope.

With that said, I do not see the developers taking these criticisms to heart and fixing the various issues of the game for the PS3 release. I would like to be wrong though. In fact, I see two outcomes:

1. The PS3 version is canceled if sales are poor.
2. The devs just say "f**k it!" and do their minimum best to get the port released.

Skynetone5809d ago

loved the orignal and the res games {it was on my maybe list}

hopefully things will improve for the ps3 version

iistuii5809d ago

do ps3 owners still think that a delayed game is getting made any better of different from the 360 version ? The ps3 has been out nearly two years i think now and STILL getting bad versions of multi-format games , and they still say they are having trouble writing for it. Well after 2 years if they are having trouble still then theres a problem

White-Sharingan5809d ago (Edited 5809d ago )

Everyone knows that when a game is delayed on one system; some bugs gets fixed and new content get added

Example:
Virtua Fighter 5 (360)
Fatal Inertia (PS3)
Oblivion (PS3)
Bioshock (Ps3)
Gears of War (PC)
Mass Effect (PC)

some include slightly better graphics; extra modes; all previous DLC from one console being free in the newer version; new missions and such

so dont give me that crap; seems someone seems too mad

Silogon5809d ago

Man, Phil Harrison couldn't even save this game. Here's to hoping and praying the Ps3 versions turns out with his guide and know how, but it's going to be a tough sale now.

BRACHATTACK5809d ago

i knew this game wasn't going to be great, let the xbox have it, i certainly don't want it for my ps3.

That genuinely, genuinely sucks. The reboot has clear flaws, but it really felt like a solid first step for this team to receive *greater* investment.

Alone in the dark is a fun game so that's unfortunate

CrimsonWing6923d ago

Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t that the norm after a project is done?

Terry_B23d ago

That's standard. Teams are together for a Project, after its done some..and sometimes most devs are fired until the next Project is in the works and people are needed again. Only the core members stay in the time between the hot phase of the game development.

CrimsonWing6923d ago

What’s annoying is people don’t understand how contractors work, either. All of this is uninformed knee-jerk reactions without any understanding of how employment works in this industry. There are key developers and staff that stay with a studio/publisher, but often times it’s a hire per project and then seeking new employment for a project. That’s how it’s always been…

coolbeans22d ago

That's a fair point too. I would say that in light of its tepid critical/commercial response and ongoing mass layoffs across the industry I think it's understandable for fans to worry about the longer-term implications. We'll see how it plays out in the future.

Alone in the Dark (XS) Review | VGChartz

VGChartz's Lee Mehr: "In one sense, it feels strange to even think Pieces Interactive had big shoes to fill with this series' legacy. Given what's come before, did it really? And yet, even when considering the last two flops over a two-decade span, there's still something about Alone in the Dark emblazoned on a title screen that carries a sense of revered history. In that respect, perhaps this reboot's best accomplishment is in honoring that spirit through its inventive world. It's also fair to emphasize knocks against its survival-horror design, some puzzle-solving, and so on; it certainly won't be considered a trendsetter like the 1992 classic. Still, the amount of goodwill wedded to its brighter qualities makes for something that dawdles the line between unfortunately-flawed and impressively-enticing."

Alone in the Dark review [SideQuesting]

The new Alone in the Dark remake doesn't do anything especially noteworthy, but that doesn't mean it's bad. It's just... cromulent.
