The Evil Within Review | ThisGenGaming

TGG: In The Evil Within you play as Detective Sebastian Castellanos who, along with other detectives, was investigating a murder. During the investigation it becomes clear that this is not any old murder case, and that something very wrong was happening. This leads to Sebastian being knocked out, and wakes up dangling upside down next to dead bodies. Then a few moments later, I got my head cut off after being caught by some big monster type enemy. Little did I know, that would end up being one of many, many times I would die in this brutally challenging game.

I know...reviews aren't everything but when a game you've looked forward to for a while, since it's reveal gets shit scores it's always hard to take in

Since all thee reviews are breaking embargo I feel they hold weight compared to the presstitute reviews from the bigger sites come the day the embargo ends.

I have been watching people stream it, very similar to resident evil but the older ones which is great! Seems creepy. Bayonetta 2 has got a superb score as well

This is great. It seems all the reviewers so far are only having issues with the technical side of the game but the atmosphere, art, horror and scares are all there and that makes me very happy. Those are the most important part of a survival horror game for me. Can't wait to play this.

If that's true then it's a shame to think what RE5 could of been like if Shinji Mikami stayed and added more survival horror aspects....maybe then the franchise would of been on a steady path.

the embargo itself is stupid. Like really bethesda? you're going to make the embargo the day the game releases? Dumb. I'm glad these small sites are just ignoring that so I can make a conscious decision weather or not to purchase the game BEFORE it comes out.

Been playing on PS4 for a few hours now got an early copy, loving every minute of it. Gunplay and story is excellent, only problem is the frame rate issues and loading times, takes like 15 seconds to load back up after you die. Definitely deserves an 8/10

Did you make the game? Do you know how the engine works? How the AI works? How much time and work went into it? The creative process? The hard decisions? The reason it can't run 60fps? The amount of money and labor it would cost to make a wonder brat like you happy?

Well, I get where you come from... But on the other hand, it teaches publichers not to put a NDA/review on the same date as the release day. People need to know how a game plays and if the game is there money worth. And reviews need to be out there at least 24-hours before the game legally can be sold.

To many games this gen are crappy, and to many games have there reviews on the same day as they are being sold

The embargo only applies to sites who receive a review copy from Bethesda. But since The Evil Within is already being sold in some areas, some sites have been able to buy their own copies and release a review early.

The gameplay shown in various trailers seems very oldschool to me. That's my concern with the game, that it's too outdated.

This game although good, was a disappointment to me. There were many instances that reminded me of silent hill and old school resident evil. Too much like them. The controls were a bit clunky and slow to respond and the worst part is the actual game ply. SPOILER ALERT!!! At the end of chapter 3 you come to a gate locked with a chain. It seems the only way to get thru is to cut it with a chainsaw despite the fact that you are carrying a shotgun a pistol and a crossbow quarrels tipped with high impact explosives. You have to kill a very tough boss to get the chainsaw then when you finally get it you use it once during a cut scene toss it away and go on your merry way. This is typical of the game and these particular elements repeat themselves many times. Wasn't impressed.
