How Much Longer Will Activision Milk Guitar Hero?

In what can only be seen as a pathetic attempt to further milk the Guitar Hero brand, Activision released a new trailer for "Guitar Hero: On Tour" featuring a bunch of whacked out "High School Musical" wannabes strumming the hell out of their Nintendo DS and dancing as if they won't regret watching themselves on film later. When will it end?

Until nobody buys them anymore.

strange complaint... Why would they stop releasing GH games as long as people enjoy them? It's not like they force people to buy them.

Harmonix isn't oversaturating the market with Rock Band... it is quietly releasing more DLC for less than Guitar Hero per song... they are not releasing a new version every 6 months... and they don't have lame commercials like this!! The worst thing to happen to the GH franchise was a Activision taking it over... remember how Harmonix came up with a patch to allow PS3 Rock Band guitars to work with GH3 and Activision blocked its release because they wanted a payoff... I will never buy a GH game.

I can't see why they would want to stop or even slow down in making them. Yes, I think the DS version is a little odd and I certainly wouldn't buy it, but as long as I get a good list of new songs to play with each one, I will continue to buy them. In fact I hope they keep putting out new GH games every 6 months, that way I don't get too bored with the set list on one game before the next one is in my hands. That's the only reason I stopped playing GHIII, I got bored with the songs after playing through them 50 times a piece. Think of it this way, if you buy the DLC and get a game with 30 to 50 songs every time they make a new one, in a year or two you will have a set list of 300+ songs! Have a couple friends over and you can play all weekend without playing the same song twice!

On a side note, I think DLC is a rip-off. You buy the game and you get 50 (plus or minus) songs for $60. Buy the DLC and you get one song for, what, $2-3 or 3 pack for $6-7? That's about twice the price when compared to what is already on the disc. That is milking the money, not releasing a game every few months.

That's Why waiting for it to drop down in price or reduced by used style what makes buying games worth every penny!

it's a great game . every body likes it in iran ! why they should stop making it ?!?

PoSTedUP5793d ago

i personally dont like this "game". i like real "games " better.

neonchez5793d ago

whatever, all game franchises get milked to death. my problem w/ gh is that w/ every gh release(odds are rb too)you must buy new peripherals to take full advantage of the new features. in other words, not only is activision milking the gh game but also the peripherals.

Ryan Johnson | GoozerNation

GoozerNation author Ryan Johnson loves delving into the Value Bin and Available Now sections of Goozex to find a game that perhaps was wanted back in the day, but wasn't purchased because it was just too much of a risk. Last time in, he found Guitar Hero: On Tour Decades for a mere 100 Goozex points. While it was a bit pricey back in the day, this was an unpassable deal. Is the game worth searching out? Most Innovative Portable Games (Modojo)

Chris Buffa (Modojo): For the most part, the video game industry is fairly predictable and disinterested in taking risks. That explains the glut of sequels and copycat titles collecting dust in stores and warehouses.

That said, a handful of companies and designers occasionally do something different. Results have been mixed, but by and large, these games stand out for offering a unique experience you can't find anyplace else.
