EGM: New Killer Instinct on the Way to Xbox 360

It's been a well known secret up until now that combo-crazy Killer Instinct could be making a comeback, and in this months EGM (July 08 issue), rumour specialist Quatermann reveals that spies over at the Rare camp are claiming that work is certainly underway on a new Killer Instinct title exclusive for the Xbox 360. Apparently, the game is still early in development but is set to feature the previous title's 2-D gameplay set in 3-D arenas, with the original cast of characters intact and perhaps a few new fighters also entering the fray.

When I was younger I used to love KI, Tekken, DOA...

Now, they just don't have the same appeal to me anymore. I guess taste changes over time.

i'm not going to name the very LONG list of great fighting games that can be played on my 60gig ps3.from sammy,sega,capcom,SNK,etc.it's just too long.and it's not like sony fans can't play the N64 version on their psps or the original arcade version on their PCs.(wink)

This is a post about a 360 game and we are up here talking about PS3's. Anyway after a firmware update in the fall all PS3's will be backwards compatible, as for Killer Instinct, I have never played or heard of this game but a new fighter is welcome. I am not a big fan of any of the fighters out today but this one might change that.

Now RARE is subpar and I have trouble believing that a new KI would be worth more than a piece of brick.

The rumor is not true however. As RARE has stated repeatedly that they have noone working on any secret games, secretly in a basement.

This was not even that long ago. Things might have changed since then (April 2008), but then this game would be a december 2009 release at its EARLIEST.

I was never a fan of the series, but I did play the arcade as well as the various home versions because it was a good alternative to Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter. Although I really dug Clay Fighters, which was out at the same time.

With that said, I hope Rare can get their fighting mechanics down for this version. The N64 version was horrid with its pre-canned combo system and uninspired move lists, i.e. lame projectile attacks.

Unlike the majority above, I don't hold fond memories of the game and having recently played the Snes version, maintain that it was a mediocre series at best. But, I have faith that Rare can get their act together and provide a decent alternative to the line-up of fighters coming in the next few years.

On a similar note, I hope Sony never, ever re does Battle Arena Toshinden.

Sorry body, I know it was a bad pun but this is one exclusive that I look for more than any other 360 exclusive and is the must-buy-360 game IMO.
I wasn't planning on getting either of PS3 or 360 last year until I saw Dead Rising and HAD to get a 360 to play it and to this day, no next-gen game has been more enjoyable for me.

I am looking forward to Fable 2, Little Big Planet and Mad World among exclusives of each console but Kill Instinct 3 is definitly my most anticipated exclusive game. I don't give a darn about Gears of War 2 but this goes to the top of my least and just below Fallout 3!

The last good Killer Instinct to me, was the very first, on the elusive "Ultra 64" arcade hardware. After that, the next installments left me with a bitter taste in my mouth... I saw improved visuals but the style of the first was lost, the characters were too bulky, clumsy gameplay and lacked the originality of the first.

Being as how most of the oldschool Rare who made it what it was, throughout the years, left the company. I would seriously doubt the integrity of this title in question.

However, I bought a 360 for IT'S Exlusives, so in case this game improves on the hilarious quality of "Killer Instinct Gold" I would steerclear. For now, though, I'll keep an open eye and an open mind.

Killer Instinct is one of Dark Sniper's personal favorite fighting games of all time. Most of the N4G users are under age to remember such a classic fighting game. When this gem was released, several of you were not even born.

It's unique fighting engine led up to some extremely fast paced combat that has yet to be duplicated or surpassed. It's refreshing to know that Rare has decided to bring back a game that is long overdue. Hopefully this will be released in arcades because Dark Sniper would rather purchase the arcade cabinet than play it on Xbox 360.
