I submitted this article because I want this issue to get more attention. I own a PS4 and my friends list hasn't been loading properly since the day I bought my PS4 (at launch) which is unacceptable. I often can't even read messages or notifications as well...@Sony: This might have been acceptable on ps3, but now we're paying for PS Plus.............

A longtime Playstation fan here

BitbyDeath3511d ago

Must be a region thing, I've never had any problems with the friends list here in Oz.

GarrusVakarian3511d ago (Edited 3511d ago )

Same here. UK.

Friends list is always instant. Same with anything else (store, What's New page, messages etc).

AliTheSnake13511d ago

I have been having this issue since first day too. Takes a while to load, or doesn't load. I also have problems with the messages, it takes forever to send and receive a message, you get the notification, but it doesn't show up for a while.

AntsPai3511d ago

I move between UK & Ireland often and this is a problem I have also been having, it loads friends list slow and only loads about 10 of the online ones. I never have more than 20 online.

It's annoying but I can deal with it, the messages on the other hand are way annoying, hopefully 2.00 will fix though.

LOL_WUT3511d ago

I seem to have this problem too and whenever I send/receive a message it displays the wrong time. :)

KrisButtar3511d ago

Canadians have the problem

@LOL_Wut

I totally forgot about that problem. I have that as well. Says 12mins ago as soon as I sent a message and goes up from there in time.

MRMagoo1233511d ago

Yeh Australia here too and I have not had one problem with friends lists or messages since day one except for when servers are down which is obvious.

-Alpha3511d ago (Edited 3511d ago )

@LOL_Wut

You need to set the time to be automatic in your settings. Had the same issue, but I think by default there is an internal clock in the PS4 that is just incorrect. Set it so that the clock is set through your wifi/internet/region.

I've had this issue with the friends list for a LONG time. We pay $50 for PSN, I am really hoping Sony can make it so that we experience much smoother networking than what we have now.

I mean, even Driveclub PS+ version had to pulled down for server stress. I am really sick of slow messages, errors sending messages, friends lists not loading, etc.

Sony generally needs to let Sony America handle PSN Network, as Sony Japan is just too slow with updates and communicating with fans

Volkama3511d ago (Edited 3511d ago )

My PS4 is immune to this problem. Because I don't have any friends on the list.

Gamer19823511d ago

I had this issue since lizard squad attacks. I'm from UK sometimes party chat doesn't work either. Also party chat is randomly dropping out. Very rare that the dropping out occurs though, say once a week but annoying if your in a raid or something. I actually think its a bug with last patch thats caused this. A side effect as you will that wasn't meant to happen. They implemented a new security fix and its not working 100% correctly. It will no doubt be fixed in time and services do work just need to wait it out..

News4Noobs-3510d ago

So what are the 100s stabilization updates again? I mean come on Sony, step your game up in terms of firmwares! Yes I agree with you we are paying for PS Plus now, even though I'm not having this issue I support you. Look at the promised Driveclub free version (which is part of Ps Plus too) and we still have nothing.

Just a true Sony fan, but not a true blind fan.

KrisButtar3511d ago

My friends list, online/all, the list showing the party chats take forever to load . Sometimes I have to back out of my friends list and re enter to get them to display and that only works sometimes. Its just the PS4 that has the problems both my Vita and PS3 work fine and sometimes I find myself using the Vita to see which friends are online and using the Vita for party chats instead of the PS4 as well.

NewAgeisHere3511d ago

Yup, you pretty much summed it up.Same problem.

Crazyglues3511d ago (Edited 3511d ago )

Yeah I keep getting this problem a lot too lately, Sony might need to update there servers..

They may be hitting there limit / probably time to add more.

Messages have always had loading issues but the friends list loading slow has been rare for me. Zero slowness for messages on my PS3. It seems to be server issues for my PS4. I'm in the US and I have my PS4 connected directly through a ethernet cable to a 20mbps connection.

Jamiex663511d ago

My entire OS for PS4 has its bad moments, couldn't even accept/see invites/messages the either day either. It comes to a snails pace.

KrisButtar3511d ago

A few of my friends and I had this problem a quick fix is turn your PS4 off. Then while turning it On hold the power button until you hear 2 beeps. The PS4 goes into safe mode and pick option 3(I think,) it will rebuild the HDD and you shouldn't loose any details. Fixed the problem for us.

Jamiex663511d ago

Ahh okay, thanks for the help, shall give it a try :)

Genuine-User3511d ago

I would suggest you reset your router. If resetting your router makes no difference then factory reset (quick method) your PS4.
Note: factory reset will wipe all the data on your system, you'll have to install all your games & apps again.

FanMan3511d ago

my friends list has been completely fine

Palitera3511d ago (Edited 3511d ago )

Incredible how the media and gamers are lenient to the ultra low quality of the PS4 hardware, software and accessories.

In fact, it is credible. Brainwashing at its best.

Friends unfunctionality, delayed messages, DS4 rubber torn apart in less than a month, DS4 random directions, games disappearing, autoeject infinite loop etc etc etc.

We, as a community, deserve the disrespect we got.

Congrats, TC, for standing over the fanboy behavior and finally reporting this.

Silly gameAr3511d ago

It's just that some gamers aren't as dramatic as others, and don't sweat the things that don't interfere with the overall functions of the system.

gangsta_red3510d ago

If gamers cared more about this than a multiplatform game being 900p then I bet you would see Sony rushing to fix these blatant problems more quickly.

But it has become so painfully obvious that the more vocal fans of Sony only care if the games are in 1080p.

Paying for any service demands that provider provide the best quality and experience possible for their users. Regardless if you haven't experienced it or not, others have.

As gamers we should focus on this a lot more.

Palitera3510d ago (Edited 3510d ago )

Silly indeed.

The system starts beeping out of nothing in the middle of the night. Tries to eject a disk that was never there. The rubber band of the sticks on the DS4 is torn apart in less than one month of use. The games simply DISAPPEAR from the console. You can't message a friend that is in the end of the friends list because it glitches, never loads and it forces a bad shutdown when you try to turn off. The Dualshock decides that it will move in random directions (down right if you put right, up left if you put left) etc.

So... Tell us more about how it doesn't interfere with "overall functions" of the system.

Stupid gamers are what makes this industry be one of the less consumer-friendly of all.

gamer4lifeyo3511d ago

I find it a little slow bringing friends info, but I've never had the problem of not being able to read messages or notifications. Thats weird.

DeadManMMX3511d ago (Edited 3511d ago )

Had this problem with trophies, friend activities and such since day one. The store was down all last week when I tried to link to it from the playstation app. Sometimes when I go to store it is just blank blue screen with the O button at bottom for back. Hell the night it launched I couldn't even get on till the next morning. On Podcast Beyond the #1 Playstation Podcast they were complaining about it. It is a real problem that things as simple as this are still wonky a year out from launch. I feel like a lot of you guys give Sony a pass on these things and they need to be taken to task. If this was the Xbox One there would be countless articles and complaining, most of which from people who don't even own the console. Complain Parity People!!! Complain Parity!!! Lol.

sergons3511d ago (Edited 3511d ago )

AntsPai@ blame slow sony servers, firmware update will not help. Same problem with psn app on smartphones, slow as sh...

Edit. where my ps+ money goes?

ReconHope3511d ago

Yes. This is serious problem that is very rampant.I think Most people think its isolated problem so they don't vocalize about it. Many of my friends have the same problem.
Since I've been on PS plus for the past month.
-Psn messages are are severely delayed. You receive notification but when you look in inbox there is nothing there.
-Friends list rarely loads.
-Friend request system intermittently works. Errors WS error repeatedly happens.
-players met doesn't work ever.

Don't say its my internet or ISP. I know how to configure my network and open my ports. As of now PS plus and the PS network is not living up to its value especially with the shitty games they have been releasing in the instant collection. That's just my opinion on the instant collection though.

CorruptBoyd3511d ago

I've had this and numerous other issues on psn. Coming from a 360, Psn is like the little leagues compared to xbox live. I can make a huge list but, you get the point

3511d ago
jocomat93511d ago

Thank you for submitting this. i have all these problems too.

ramiuk13511d ago

my friends list is usually ok in speed(im uk based)
but if i want to send a message to a player i just played its at least a 3 minute job to get into the message its so slow.
but then i also have the issue that the store doesnt always load up.(takes 5 mins sometimes)
if i want to buy packs in fifa 15,i have to do 3 attempts till the store loads every new gaming session.

i love my ps4 but there network needs a serious increase in speed.
even the videos buffer from the store and im on 152mb down and 15mb upload speeds.

also same issue in old house and on different routers etc

spacedelete3511d ago

what i'm questioning is what these constant "stability fixes" actually are because its not improving the PS4 in any way i see it. i'm having the same issues that i can't see my friends list and my messages don't even show up. i can't even see my games or menu and have to fully reboot console. no wonder why PSN gets hacked over and over. it seems PSN is run on actual cheap ikea quality wood.

lazyboyblue3510d ago

Yeah I have the same problems. BT infinity Uk connected via Ethernet.

BG115793510d ago

Have you tried to activate the UPnP (Universal Plug and Play) on your router/internet box?

Party chat wouldn't work if I hadn't activate it.

Christopher3510d ago

I don't have this problem, but I do notice that all of my messages I send and receive have a +5 minute time stamp on them. Like if I send a message right now, it would say "5 minutes ago" as the time it was sent.

Killzoner993510d ago

Stop your trolling. I have never heard of anyone having this issue. People will do backflips to find problems with the PS4 . Why don't you pony up the money for a decent Internet connection?

psn service is trash and their UI is bug ridden. this is the improvement we get for having to pay sony that 50 dollars a year. i havent seen any improvement over ps3 version of psn. people should start a petition to boycot paying for online multiplayer because it's a scam.

BitbyDeath3511d ago

That money is for PS+.
It hasn't changed since PS3 only now online sits behind it.

spacedelete3511d ago

then they need to make online free because it isn't worth the paywall. i remember fanboys who used to claim PSN would be better if we paid for online but its actually gotten even worse. horrible online service and even worse "free" games. if there was a better competitor than MS and Nintendo i would jump ship.

BitbyDeath3511d ago

I agree, no service is worth paying for online twice, it is a sham.

Christopher3510d ago

@spacedelete: It's far from worse. It sucks to pay for online, I agree. But PSN is actually much better now than it was in the old days.

I also agree that Sony really needs to get with it on their firmware. So many limitations and random issues. And this isn't about their inability to add features that were on the PS3.

DragoonsScaleLegends3511d ago

Yeah the UI should be way better then PS3 due to PS4 being more powerful but it's not that much smoother. Also slowness when it comes to PSN seems worse on PS4 then PS3. My Wii U has a smother UI than my PS4 but the games look worse on my Wii U so whatever. The Wii U web browser is unbelievable so much better then my PS4s browser even though the PS4 version has a higher web browser rating.

MRMagoo1233511d ago

It must be something to do with your network connection if you are having a slower time on ps4 than ps3, the PS4 loads everything nearly instantly for me and going onto the PS3 seems like a huuuuuge time to wait compared to it.

Gamer19823511d ago (Edited 3511d ago )

Go away fanboy (swishersweets20031 ) we don't need your type here, PSN service is good just right now its struggling as Sony have more mebers than they have ever had thanks to unexpected demand. See MS bought a ton of servers expecting to be top dog Sony did not after the PS3 bashing and and since PS4 became the top console MS will now be losing a ton of money on unused servers Sony will be at capacity.

extravalue3511d ago (Edited 3511d ago )

your comment reeks of fanboy. funny how you started your rant with "go away fanboy" and ultimately turned out to be even a bigger tool

I bought into the hype and went the ps4 route this gen and i am completely disappointed at how such a powerful system cant run such a basic and bland OS without lags. Psn is slow as trash too

Lets hope firmware 2.0 fixes this problem. Its idiots like you who let companies get away with stuff like this. Youre whats wrong with the gaming community. Instead of criticising , you wallor in the fith. So you go away fanboy. We dont need your type here. We need an improved system and service.

neocores3511d ago

same here keep having problems loading party and msgs I live in Texas with 70dwn 10up and still have problems. I just hope they fix it soon tired of turning my ps4 on and off to get it to load

Tacoboto726d ago (Edited 726d ago )

Sony really hates the players, demonstrated by an onslaught of anti-consumer moves - from PS+ Cloud Save restrictions, enforced DualSense on-console (despite input flexibility on Remote Play), no DLC Support for PS3 PS+ titles, upgrade fees on not just cross-gen titles but also now on their new PS+ service, to things like this.

Only Nintendo out-snubs Sony on treatment of their players.

King_Noctis726d ago

This I have to agree. Nintendo is the worst when it comes to consumer-friendly moves, and now Sony is coming so close.

I fully agree that Nintendo cares less about its fans and stuff, but can we look at each company for what they’re doing not others? Yeah I’m irritated at Nintendo for more or less ignoring drift, limited releases like Mario 3D all stars etc, but guess what when I’m mad at Sony for something I’m not going to keep bringing it up, it’s not going to change the fact that I still can’t transfer my ps1 games.

Yeah, I'm not sure why Sony did this. It's one more thing to push people towards CFW, and then that's basically priming people to pirate. Why would they take away a feature? Why do companies continue to punish the loyal, paying customers? It boggles the mind.

PlayStation Network Currently Generates Over $14 Billion In Sales

PlayStation Network currently generates over a staggering $14 billion in digital sales.

MastaMold730d ago (Edited 730d ago )

Yea with this type of revenue could people start to realize and drop the topic of "Sony needs a Game pass. "

TheGreatGazoo30730d ago

That is what all the smart business people are saying "subscription models are a fad."

Silly gameAr730d ago

@TheGreatGazoo

They also said PS Now was a failure. You think all that money is coming from sub models alone?

Bathyj730d ago

The only industry where people on the losing side think the leaders should follow the losers. Sony's clearly fine doing what they've been doing for 25 years. Selling games like the industry has always done.

Orchard730d ago (Edited 730d ago )

@Bathyj "Sony's clearly fine doing what they've been doing for 25 years. Selling games like the industry has always done."

Gotta future proof. I'm sure Blockbuster folk said the same thing about Netflix when it first came on the scene. Business models and consumer expectations change over time.

SullysCigar729d ago

^ sure Orchard, Blockbuster is one example. Another might be Netflix losing subscribers to the point they're changing their policy and threatening their customers.

Netflix started off as good value, then was amazing as the content was great as well as the price, but now it's expensive compared to it's peers and has lost a load of content to them. Original content is mostly crap now and I'm betting a significant crash in users is coming for them late this year.

My point being? Gamepass and anything Sony may do along those lines may well face the same fate. There's nothing wrong with diversification, but you have to focus on your main money maker and people are lapping up PlayStation traditional model - for good reason.

ABizzel1729d ago

They don't "need GamePass" for financials. They needed the revamp to ensure consumer engagement, loyalty, and market share didn't shift in favor of Xbox due to the potential short-term / long-term success of GamePass.

This is why we have the new PS+. They don't need a direct GamePass competitor, they simply needed an easy to get into and well-marketed subscription service that offers a library of games for the more casual consumer since the core fanbase actually buys games on PS.

Godmars290729d ago

Though, aren't they getting a Game Pass. Just that theirs wont include day one major releases.

MrNinosan729d ago

@Godmars290
They had it for years, way before Gamepass was a thing.

Obscure_Observer729d ago

"Yea with this type of revenue could people start to realize and drop the topic of "Sony needs a Game pass"

Well, whether Sony needs a "Game Pass" I can´t tell but, I´m certain they can´t allow themselves to stay idle and not react to Xbox´s recent advances either. According to Newzoo´s latest report, Microsoft´s year-on-year growth is +9,6% vs Sony -2,3% vs Nintendo +1,9%.

https://venturebeat.com/wp-...

Also once the Activision/Blizzard acquisition is completed, Xbox is expected to become the second biggest company in gaming, right behind Tecent.

https://venturebeat.com/wp-...

https://www.gamesindustry.b...

That´s why Sony´s future investments will be more focused on subscription services, GaaS, Multiplatform, PC and Mobile. There are also rumors of a PS Plus launcher for PC coming soon.

Die hard PS fans might hate the direction that Sony is apparently following under Yoshida (CEO) and Ryan by making PS games and services "less exclusive". But inteligent and reasonable PS fans knows that Sony must do what they have to do if they intent to survive trillion dollar companies like Apple, Google, Amazon and Microsoft while continue and deliver high quality game and services.

“Gotta future proof. I'm sure Blockbuster folk said the same thing about Netflix when it first came on the scene. Business models and consumer expectations change over time.”

The difference here is overall convenience. You had to drive to the store and browse then purchase get a game/movie from them and drive home. You have free access from your house to browse and purchase on PS Network. If someone really wants a game and it is of quality and has great reviews they will buy it. Blockbuster lost to internet convenience, not pricing.

Over time subscription services get so large that the fees have to increase, making the value decrease…and as we have seen with sub services quality decreases also. Not everyone wants another monthly bill in their budget for 2-3 games a year they really want to play. A reliance on a sub service weens once you sift through the initial 3-6 months of library access. I know for myself that my gamepass subscription was much more amazing when I first got my series x than it is now 1 year later. At this point I’m just waiting for exclusives…which I wouldn’t mind purchasing without a monthly script because it’s a few games a year.

BehindTheRows729d ago

He knows that, he’s just on the “opposing view” because it’s PlayStation. If Xbox generated this much, and more than PlayStation, it’d be a whole different tune.

Truth is Sony has the winning model and should keep doing exactly what has won them generation(s).

In fluffy's voice "DAMN"

PlayStation is universal brand. It sells in every country and the brand recognition is just on another level. I think it was like 2018 or 2019 when PlayStation generated more money than Xbox and Nintendo combined

MastaMold

Sony doesn't need GP because they have a huge library of games from their past generations that people can't wait to play again with trophy support. And they have been the best ever since launch of PS5. Game after game while as a Xbox series X owner I am playing the wait game. HFW, GT7, GOW, TOKYO Ghostwire and rumor has it TLOU remake will release this year too. While Ms have all the resources and not much AAA content

Hopefully 2023 is when Xbox can get on a steady schedule for releasing awesome games. Honestly this is the last straw if anything like this happens again than Phil has to and I do mean has to go. He can't be failing this badly with the amount of resources at his disposal

Aloymetal729d ago

''PlayStation is universal brand. It sells in every country and the brand recognition is just on another level. I think it was like 2018 or 2019 when PlayStation generated more money than Xbox and Nintendo combined''

You're absolutely right with both statements.!
https://www.pushsquare.com/...

Eonjay729d ago

I would like to point out that even though is evident that Sony doesn't 'need' GP, they are going to profit very handsomely from their own subscription and they are going to do it without compromising the revenue they get from their first party releases.

Sony Nintendo and Microsoft have worked together to enrich each other. Sony took PSNow, rebranded it to be like GamePass with it's catalog of newer games and then added in Nintendo's retro service. They deserve credit for taking some great aspects of their competitor's programs and making it work for their business.

That's good money!

Playstation Network includes all digital purchases, DLC, MT, the monthly/ yearly fee, PSnow and any other paid service on the network.

120mill PS4 and 20 mill PS5, I'm not surprised.

Lol, why mention they don't need a GP service when they are actually doing a similar service come June. I would take that to mean they see more $$ coming from it.

I would surmises the other 2 systems generate in the billions for their digital services as well.

SullysCigar729d ago

"why mention they don't need a GP service"

Because they don't. It's called diversification. They're aiming to offer choices and the best of all worlds. To suggest they 'need' it, though, when they're taking profits like that would be plain wrong.

thesoftware730729d ago

Uh-huh, but who claimed they "needed" it?

Subscriptions services are what all gaming associated brands are doing, Amazon, Google, Nvidia, Ubisoft, EA, MS, Nintendo, Apple, and even Netflix.

Please stop with the "they are diversifying", spin nonsense. They all are, if you can purchase games in a multiple way on

thesoftware730729d ago

Uh-huh, but who claimed they "needed" it?

Subscription services are what all gaming associated brands are doing, Amazon, Google, Nvidia, Ubisoft, EA, MS, Nintendo, Apple, and even Netflix.

Please stop with the "they are diversifying", spin to make them sound different nonsense. They all are diversifying by definition, if you can purchase games and services in multiple ways on a platform then they are all giving diversifying options lol. Sony just like the rest of them sees money to be made.

You can buy, MS games on PC, Xbox, in a store, digitally or sub to GP...see diversifying. You can buy Nintendo games on Mobile, in a store, digitally or you can sub NSO..see diversifying. You can buy games, and 1000 different apps on IOS and android or you can sub and get them...diversifying. Sny is no different, their games selling well means nothing, Subs are industry standard and they are just now bolstering that specific dept. because GP and others popularity can't and shouldn't be ignored.

No need to make them sound like they are doing something special, they are simply moving in a well laid out direction as well.

****Sorry for the double post, had to tend to something***

SullysCigar729d ago

^ "Uh-huh, but who claimed they "needed" it?"

Well, you, when you said, "Lol, why mention they don't need a GP service", but it's no big deal.

By the same token, nowhere did I claim Sony is doing something different, nor did i employ spin. I'm sorry, I might not be the fight you're looking for. I'm just pointing out the situation, not comparing them to any other company.

GamingSinceForever729d ago

What Game Pass does is offer all 1st party and some 3rd party games day one. So no Sony doesn’t need to copy that. That is what was meant when people said that.

thesoftware730729d ago

The 14 billion is not from games alone, it is generated through ALL service sales and usage on the network, even movie streaming, HBO Max, Netflix, Spotify, 3rd party services in general, and yes the gaming division.

I get that it's making money, but the whole "no need for GP-like service", when they are indeed doing a GP-like service is pure worship and a pointless thing to say. Offering the 1st party games on day one has nothing to do with this, technically none of them have to do that, they just chose different directions with that one specific thing.

729d ago Replies(1)
GamingSinceForever729d ago

Sony doesn’t need a GP like service, but that isn’t to say one wouldn’t be nice to have.

Anyone with common sense would love to have the option of playing Playstation games on day one at a monthly cost, however Sony in their current position doesn’t need to go there because they are still making a nice profit selling games at full price.

So no it isn’t worship, it is just stating the facts. They feel that giving away their games would dilute the quality.

MrNinosan729d ago (Edited 729d ago )

They had PSNow for years, they're just rebranding and cleaning it a bit.
