Destiny: 10 Missing Features It Desperately Needs

Where'd that $500 million go, exactly?

My biggest peeve at the moment is the amount of crucible and vanguard marks you get in a week! Seriously I have not been as lucky as some who have been able to get legendary armour and weapon drops.. So the only other way I can go about it is earning those damn marks! Unless they raise the marks cap from 100 to maybe 200+ it's going to take me weeks to get my guardian fully kitted out!

ITPython3538d ago

The crucible marks are incredibly easy to get, as a less than 10 minuet match gives you at least a few marks even if you lose. Whereas with Vanguard marks, you have to grind through a 25+ minuet strike (sometimes way longer if your team isn't very well equipped) and get a measly 6 marks at best if you do the level 24 strike.

Although the daily heroic missions so far have been very easy and quick, but it's only once a day.

And the weekly heroic strike is ridiculous trying to solo (no matchmaking, at least it didn't for me). I did this weeks strike by myself and it took me almost an hour and a half to beat since the boss part is impossible unless you cheat a little bit (I had a nice place to hide that kept me safe while I healed or reloaded... and the game automatically gives you more ammo after a certain amount of time if you run out).

As for some shortcomings of the game, I have a few:

- Proximity chat is desperately needed. Not sure why Bungie didn't implement it, as it is a pain to talk to people as the system is setup now (and I am not that social of a person to begin with).

- Joining and leaving fireteams forces you back to orbit and takes some loading time. This shouldn't be the case, we should be able to easily go in and out of fireteams with the snap of a finger and without having to load or go back to orbit. And some people are even trolling others by inviting them to their fireteam then when they are about to finish a mission or get some rewards (or whatever) they boot them out of the team and it sends them back to orbit. Just imagine getting to the end of a very successful strike and you get booted seconds before you guys beat the boss. No rewards, and 100% lost time. Because of this I have a really hard time accepting invites to fireteams, as I don't like the team leader having that much control over me, especially if it means tons of lost loot and/or rewards.

- No in-game messaging system. Sure you can view the persons PSN profile and send a message that way, but let's face it this is quite inconvenient and a lot of the time the messages aren't seen and go unread. The game really needs some way to quickly message somebody.

- No matchmaking for the weekly strikes, or special event missions (queens thing). I for one find it quite difficult to find others that are playing the game the same time I am and want to do the same mission. Matchmaking is perfect for the random strikes, and should also be there for the weekly and special event strikes/missions too.

@fanofrootbeer
The author is clearly oblivious to the fact that the 500 000 000 is for all three instalments, and with that ignorance how did this get approved?

That being said it is missing features, but I'm sure no one wants to go through 11 pages (for 10 reasons).

10. Voice Chat For Public Events (coming next week)
9. A Proper Map
8. Sparrow Racing, Anyone?
7. High-Level Mission Incentives (also coming next week)
6. A Reasonable Weekly Mark Cap
5. Normalised PvP (no, I've done no better or worse with my higher level character, just no)
4. More Diverse Bounties
3. Matchmaking for raids
2. Increased Loot Quantity (next week)
1. Normalised Loot

while I agree with some of these, and others are being fixed currently, matchmaking on raids would be a mistake. Forums lead to actual commitments, I don't want to be halfway through a section and hear "Tony come for supper". A Proper Map however would be excellent, along with more bounties, but if you want to race sparrows do a patrol scout mission with friends, line up at a certain spot and have a race! An actualized patrol mission with sparrow races would be awesome, but it's not something it desperately needs. Considering how many of these issues are already being addressed is good support on bungies part, but they will need to improve it to keep players on.

They nailed the FPS part its the RPG part they could work on, bethesda could show them a thing or two about that.

Muzikguy3538d ago

Here's another article asking about the $500miion. Incoming comments about the money being for the life of the game....
I agree it doesn't seem like a $500 budgeted title. I mean, how do they know how much the rest is even going to cost? What if it ends up just being like $300milloon? I'm not fooled. That first number is in fact what they're touting as a budget in Destiny so far. The upcoming DLCs can't be a part of that. If they are, they were lying and ripped us off IMO

ramiuk13538d ago

read the agreement between bungie and activison.
it reveals all the info about bonuses for coming in on costs etc.

pvp feels like a terrible afterthought. it needs some serious balancing

Destiny Made Over $160 Million In Microtransaction Revenue In Less Than 2 Years

Destiny has made over $160 million in MTX revenue, and these numbers only account the data from late 2017 to early 2019.

Sgt_Slaughter372d ago

That's extremely low for microtransactions, especially for a game that's essentially designed around it

LucasRuinedChildhood372d ago (Edited 372d ago )

This was back when the game wasn't free to play.

The figures are from November 2017 to February 2019 (1 year and 4 months).

Based on that projection, the MTX revenue for Destiny 2 likely would have been closer to ~$240m for 2 years.

Not sure if premium expansions are included in that figure either although ... I'd hope that they are though and that most of the revenue was for actual content like Forsaken.

People spend way too much money on cosmetics.

Rude-ro372d ago (Edited 372d ago )

Seasons($10 and just got bumped to $12) and dungeon keys($10 each, two a year) are through the eververse(micro transaction) store.
So for those two years, in order to play a season, you would pay through micro transactions.

Sonic1881372d ago (Edited 372d ago )

Bungie Marathon will be worse since it's designed around it as well

Kurt Russell372d ago

It makes me sad to agree... but at the same time I am looking forward to giving it a go. Destiny 2 is so far in, I find it difficult to figure out what I am meant to do first.

buffig372d ago

I think FIFA alone makes over $1bn a year from mtx

anast372d ago

FIFA promotes a worldwide sport. It should make more money than destiny.

CantThinkOfAUsername372d ago (Edited 372d ago )

Let's compare something similar. Apex Legends and its ridiculous $18/$40 skins make EA a billion each year.

z2g372d ago

For as much as ppl complain how much they hate microtransactions, they sure don’t act like it. No wonder they aren’t going anywhere.

spicelicka372d ago

By "people" you're referring to millions and millions of people. Obviously the ones complaining aren't necessarily the same as the ones spending all that money.

There's millions that purchase MTX and there's nothing we can do about it

I've been thinking about playing through D1 again before it goes away...

CobraKai523d ago

That’s the sad reality of a game like this. I bought it, invested lots of money, and it can go away at anytime. I still think this was more fun than 2.

jeromeface522d ago

prob because 2 is a grindfest slog

spoonard520d ago

That's the bummer of 'games as a service'.
