For me personally the only thing that ruined a GTA game, was the mandatory dates etc.. in GTA IV. Nothing else
I thought the stamina strength thing in san andreas made it quite fun.

Yes - the heists missing is another.
But thats only 2 things.

MUTE PROTAGONIST? The thing some games STILL do today? I'm not a fan either, but it did NOTHING to "almost ruin" GTA3.

Some decent points, like GTA4's constant whining to hang out with friends, and no heists in GTA Online yet, but for the most part this is just a bad list.

Did not read the article, but I personally thought rockstar changed the physics system in gta v for the worse. And how you couldn't always jump out of your car in mid air? instead you had to wait until the car was on the ground to get out. I dont know why they made these changes, maybe it was restrictions of last gen and they toned it down for the graphics and big map... but gta iv's physics system was much more dynamic and realistic, it really made the sandbox, its a huge part of the gameplay. I hope some fundamental changes are being made for the current gen release.
