uptownsoul3533d ago

Misleading headline trying to draw in traffic…Good to see DESTINY IS STILL COMING OUT ON SEPT 9TH

GiggMan3533d ago

I just logged in and for some reason this is the first article my eyes gravitated to.

I didn't want to click the link lol. Glad to see that all is on track.

fenome3533d ago

Same here, I'm taking 9 days off starting the 7th and I'm really looking forward to putting a good chunk into this game right off the bat when it releases. A delay this close would've freakin' sucked!!

guitarded773533d ago

Yeah, I would have stroked out if Destiny was delayed. Examiner and their BS bait headlines.

SilentNegotiator3533d ago

I was worried because I never realized that the game was delayed before.

bouzebbal3533d ago

he says Destiny and COD are for 2 different fan bases, but these games are mainly enjoyed for their multiplayer and multiplayer in these games consists of bang bang dead respawn so in the end it's war FPS fans who like these games.

UltraNova3533d ago

"So yes, they both have the first-person point of view in common, but I think they'll actually attract some different types of fans."

Arent Halo diehards the exact same audience as COD's?

OT: I thought it was delayed into 2015 for a minute there !

n4rc3534d ago

Its always the right idea.. But id much prefer they don't set dates until they are sure they can meet them.

What's wrong with saying "were planning for a fall 2014 release"?

Phaethon00173533d ago

Publishers use pre-orders as a gauge for how they position their marketing spend. It's shitty, especially when they know a game is going to be delayed a year but don't announce to get more pre-orders.

ECHOBLAST3534d ago (Edited 3534d ago )

Cool of, already gold !

OUROSMAG3533d ago

Was there a prior release date? I don't remember one.

patsrule3163533d ago

When the PS4 was first announced, Destiny was targeted as a spring 2014 release. The article is factually wrong when it says "Bungie's brand new sci-fi world has already captured the imaginations of the millions of gamers who participated in its alpha and beta versions. Since then, the game has been delayed until September 9th." The delay was long before the alpha and beta, not since then.

KiwiViper853533d ago

He says since the alpha and beta the game has been delayed till September 9th.

Also asked how the release date will conflict with COD:AW a full 2 months later!

bmf73643533d ago (Edited 3533d ago )

Probably won't. Two different audiences are after Destiny and COD, but they're both huge on their own and a lot of other games delayed not to just polish, but Activision practically claimed holiday 2014. COD has the same annual (and possibly diminishing) audience that's heavily endorsed on Xbox while Destiny is being built on conservative Halo/Bungie fans, RPG enthusiasts, and is being marketed as the game-to-play on PS4. So not just the shooter market as a whole, they locked down each system's software sales too (theyre both third party but it's just how they're being marketed)

Basically what he said.

Destiny Made Over $160 Million In Microtransaction Revenue In Less Than 2 Years

Destiny has made over $160 million in MTX revenue, and these numbers only account the data from late 2017 to early 2019.

Sgt_Slaughter335d ago

That's extremely low for microtransactions, especially for a game that's essentially designed around it

LucasRuinedChildhood335d ago (Edited 335d ago )

This was back when the game wasn't free to play.

The figures are from November 2017 to February 2019 (1 year and 4 months).

Based on that projection, the MTX revenue for Destiny 2 likely would have been closer to ~$240m for 2 years.

Not sure if premium expansions are included in that figure either although ... I'd hope that they are though and that most of the revenue was for actual content like Forsaken.

People spend way too much money on cosmetics.

Rude-ro334d ago (Edited 334d ago )

Seasons($10 and just got bumped to $12) and dungeon keys($10 each, two a year) are through the eververse(micro transaction) store.
So for those two years, in order to play a season, you would pay through micro transactions.

Sonic1881334d ago (Edited 334d ago )

Bungie Marathon will be worse since it's designed around it as well

Kurt Russell334d ago

It makes me sad to agree... but at the same time I am looking forward to giving it a go. Destiny 2 is so far in, I find it difficult to figure out what I am meant to do first.

buffig334d ago

I think FIFA alone makes over $1bn a year from mtx

anast334d ago

FIFA promotes a worldwide sport. It should make more money than destiny.

CantThinkOfAUsername334d ago (Edited 334d ago )

Let's compare something similar. Apex Legends and its ridiculous $18/$40 skins make EA a billion each year.

z2g334d ago

For as much as ppl complain how much they hate microtransactions, they sure don’t act like it. No wonder they aren’t going anywhere.

spicelicka334d ago

By "people" you're referring to millions and millions of people. Obviously the ones complaining aren't necessarily the same as the ones spending all that money.

Father__Merrin334d ago

There's millions that purchase MTX and there's nothing we can do about it

I've been thinking about playing through D1 again before it goes away...

CobraKai485d ago

That’s the sad reality of a game like this. I bought it, invested lots of money, and it can go away at anytime. I still think this was more fun than 2.

jeromeface484d ago

prob because 2 is a grindfest slog

spoonard482d ago

That's the bummer of 'games as a service'.
