Op-Ed: 'Metal Gear Solid' should not be remade

Not all classic works of the cultural arts need a makeover just to be more appealing for a new generation. Yet Hideo Kojima has voiced his support for remaking 'Metal Gear Solid,' but that game needs to be remade as badly as 'The Godfather'.

I love Metal Gear Solid but this game really doesn't need to be remade. Kojima should not remake his masterpiece just to appeal to a new generation because a real gamer should respect its legacy as is.

I wouldn't object a remake of MGS1, but I would rather prefer a remake of Metal Gear 1 and 2. Even though MGS1 was really the one to give Metal Gear it's huge popularity, MG1 and 2, for what they were at the time, were great games. And I'll admit it, I didn't even know about the first two Metal Gear games till Metal Gear Solid 3

I want this as well. Full voice acting and 3D environments to make those games more cinematic. It's all I've wanted since MGSIV.

Metal Gear 1 and 2 really need to be remade as so many fans missed out back in the day. Maybe make one game that combines the two into one massive game.

@Stanr: Isn't kind of off-putting for you to be the first one to make a comment on your own article, no? Also I think that it would be cool to have a remake, but it should probably include larger renditions of the areas in MGS1 and more verticality (is that a word?) if it will include newer mgs gameplay abilities like climbing roofs, hanging from rails, etc. The gamecube remake was too easy because it didn't make accomodations in the A.I. for things like the first person shooter view which made it easier to win in a top down game like the original MGS1. ALSO, for nostalgic fans, they can make a special mode that strips down all of snakes abilities so that it plays just like the original game. This way everyone can be happy, conservative and contemporary fans.

Also that idea about combining the OLD metal gear 1 & 2 games in a remake is a good idea.

Maybe not totally remake it but i would like a uprezed version with trophies and psn support like the MGS HD collection. And add choosing between original graphics and the new cleaned up ones.

Yea I disagree Kojima should remake Metal Gear 1 and 2. I'm a 90's gamer and never got a chance to play the old metal gear games, so it would be amazing to see it using this generations technology.

DonDon3547d ago

He's talking about Metal Gear SOLID 1. Also, Metal Gear 1 and 2 (not Solid) are hidden in the mgs collection games. But are kind of outdated and could use a remake imo.

randomass1713547d ago

Agreed. MGS was already remade and not very well from what I've heard either. If there are any remakes to be had it should be MG1 and MG2.

nunley333547d ago

I would prefer metal gear 1 & 2 also and port MGS:The Twin Snakes. Throw in ghost babel the PSP mgs games and you have another excellent MGS collection.

Omar913547d ago (Edited 3547d ago )

Lol well to be honest I didnt read the article, but I thought the title said Metal Gear instead of "solid". I played the solid remake amd would love a full remake of the metal gear games.

LightDiego3547d ago

I still want, but i understand your point. Would be awesome a game with Gray Fox as protagonist, like Revengeance.

randomass1713547d ago

Revengeance 2 could always be a prequel where you play as Fox instead of Raiden. :)

Op-Ed: 'Metal Gear Solid' should not be remade.....AGAIN gamecube anyone!

Inception3547d ago

If you want to see MGS 1 remake just play Twin Snakes or MGS 4 - act 4.

But i agreed with Omar91 up there. Kojima need to remake Metal Gear 1 & 2. I mean, the story after Phantom Pain are took place when young Solid Snake infiltrated Zanzibar & Outer Heaven and 'killed' Big Boss. So, it would be cool to watch Solid Snake fighting Gray Fox or Big Boss with that beautifull fox engine.

I’d have taken a few of those out. Prefer Sonic over Sonic 2. Outrun should be in there. Maybe even Pong as millions of people had fun with that even if it was repetitive. Final Fight pipped any Streets of Rage game, although Streets of Rage had the better soundtrack. Too many to list l guess. To me, retro gaming is the 1980s, maybe going into early 1990s.

Agree that the generational gap is too broad to really make a strong list. Need to tighten the years a bit. Hard to compare Pac Man with N64 games.
