I think the most interesting thing is how close the psp sales are to the 360's. People always want to count the psp out, but it is selling about the same numbers as 360 and rules the roost over in Japan. DS is a juggernaut, and I don't think the psp will ever match it strictly on sales. But that doesn't make it any less of a success on it's own.

Is it just me.. or are these numbers a little on the low side?

I mean.. April we didn't see a huge spike in hardware sales cause frankly GTA came out April 28th not giving enough time for the month... so we waited till May.. but may only brought ~200k consoles? I expected GTA4 to really push hardware sales for both consoles a lot more than ~200k...

Alot of people and me included don't look at the WII as a next gen platform and therefore not a rival to the PS360.But it is a big rival and a torn in the eyes of Sony and Microsoft.The revenue that console makes for Nintendo is what Microsoft has been dreaming of making since entering the console war and it's revenue that Sony once had and is longing to regain again.

I just pray that Sony and Microsoft maintain this route of making consoles with cutting edge hardware and not make a 520 or PS3.5 with some fancy controller due to the fact that the WII has been so successfull.

If you think SONy is not getting paid off of blue ray you are kidding your self and MS is making larger amount sof money from the game sales. The prices are not lowering and the fact that people want to buy the high end version even with out price breaks will put them on par with nintendo pretty quickly. You already have high end PC parts way cheaper than the stuff that the HD console have except the cell and blu ray drives are cheap on PCs right now? If Sony and MS cut lower they're price that mean less profit. Now both companies are being pressured to show profits in the gaming divisions this year, they can't really afford to. There may be a price cut but not a significant one. If these two companies want to stay in this business they need to make a profit, thats how it works. SO maybe a price cut before the holidays but not anytime before. But I highly doubt it.

I'm a bit disappointed in the PS3, I figured the PS3 would outsell the 360 by more than it did. Especially being the MSG4 was coming early June. IMO, if the PS3 don't push 400-500K in units sold in the US for the month of June I will be both surprised and disappointed in it's performance.

As for the 360, with no big game releasing in months, I think that it's numbers have been respectful and consistent.

If that didn’t stop the 360 getting beaten in global sales by the PS3, what do you summarize will be the outcome for 2008. Europe (this time 1 year, not 9 months), Japan, and the rest of the planet excluding the USA are continuing the trend of 2007 (outselling the 360). On top of that, the PS3 is now out selling the 360 in America in 2008 (so far).

Sony still has a very large ps2 install base. It's a more common name than Microsoft in the average household. As ps3 becomes more affordable, then the more people start to transition from last gen to current gen.Unlike gamecube or xbox, ps2 is still developing new titles. Worthless I know but the best buy in Deer Park IL had 2 MGS4 bundles left at 12pm on launch day on shelf space allocated for a good 30 systems. 1.Its still very early in this console war to determine just how well the x360 is doing. Intintially the x360 has done better than expected but you must understand that the x360 is still less than 24 million the xbox had in 4 years with 3 1/2 years into its life. In the next 2-3 years i really don't see how MS will be able to compete with the PS3 for the hardcore and the wii and PS3 for the casual market. The biggest sucess for MS this gen is the fact that they have stole a few major exclusive and diversify their gaming selection but overall its still not a great success as some of you x360 fans are claiming. Remember Sony is only just started and naturally this will have a great impact on the x360 performance from now on.

2.Alot of events changed the dynamics of this console war in the beginning. The x360 coming out a full year ahead of competition, the PS3 price and the wii doing much much better than expected. For anyone to think that PS3 would be dominating out of the gate would have been wishful thinking after these facts.

3.Regardless of how things have turn out sofar in this console war. Last time i check the PS3 is selling at the same pace the PS2 was selling during this same period in its lifecycle.

What i am saying is that its too early to make a call on what you are asking. I do agree with you though that the PS3 is better because of the x360. That i can answer with a yes.

Dont you think in a year MS was supposed to sell consoles or did they release a console and not expect to sell anything until the PS3 came out. It is obvious that year gave them a sales advantage which if you think about it if MS was doing better than PS3 since the PS3 was released then their sales should have increased and giving them an even bigger advantage but instead the amount they were ahead is getting smaller every passing month. If you have 100 people going to a car dealership on one week and you have 50 people going to the same dealership on a sepparate week which week do you think sold more cars? Its simple math. People here are fans and therefor most likely have a prefered console and as part of their hobby they like to see how it does.

Both consoles are doing well but even though slowly the PS3 has been doing better. Price favors the 360 and yet ps3 sells more. I favor the PS3 but nothing againts the 360. This year the 360 is the one facing tough competition. Sure they have a good like up but not better than last years and certainly not better than PS3's.

Sorry for the updates on this but doing multiple stuff at once you end up writting something you dont want to sometimes. Anyways as the person above said it is early in year, well half way there so lets wait a little more to see how the exclusives help each console but I honestly see PS3 moving more due to its exclusives compared to 360. When the Xbox360 was released there was no competition.

When the PS3 was released it had to compete with two other consoles.

Yet, the PS3 has sold 33% more in it's first 18 months than the Xbox360 did during the same period of it's life-cycle despite sporting a higher price tag.

Clearly, consumers are seeing much more value in the PS3 than in the Xbox360.

Furthermore, Xbox360 sales have been inflated by people having to buy a second or third one after the first one failed and Microsoft not willing to honor the three year warranty for failures that are other than the specific ones listed.
