Kite & Lightning’s Cory Strassberger on Content Creation & Monetisation

In the virtual reality (VR) community Kite & Lightning‘s reputation is second-to-none. The three demos that they have made publicly available – The Cave, The Station and Senza Peso – have all been met with both critical acclaim and a positive response from the development community also. But what does the future hold for a studio that has built itself on the ideal of making content available for free? Kite & Lightning’s Cory Strassberger took some time to speak with VRFocus about just that.

Blast baddies in a groovy platformer - Earthworm Jim: '90s Weirdness to the Max

"Earthworm Jim is weird, its levels are totally random, and why do you play as an earthworm in a spacesuit anyway? Well, let's get to it." - Alex Legard from Video Chums

Earthworm Jim was outstanding. I have fond memories playing on my genesis fighting that crow bad guy.

44 bucks is asking a bit too much for me. I'd love to see more indie GB/GBA games be made, as well as just more new games being made for retro consoles. Feel like there's a whole market there with untapped potential. Just needa keep prices at somewhere reasonable.

Not when PC elite just pirate everything. People still play retro games, they just don’t care to support it properly. Mini consoles came out and sold well, but all I heard is why buy this when I have hundreds of roms that run better than real thing? People don’t get it.

Inverno1111d ago

Mini consoles only ever come with a handful of games and you have no choice over the selection. They're a collectors item and Nintendo, Sony, and SEGA clearly have no interest in releasing a mini console with the ability to buy more retro titles. Emulation isn't pirating, and while roms are pirating EVERYONE knows there's absolutely no money being lost on that when the vast majority of these classic libraries are unavailable legally.

Game looks fun.

I still have the original "Brick" handed down from my brother, and my Gameboy Color. I get the interest and nostalgia of it all, but that's just too much for the experience of playing a game on a Gameboy.

Cool for collectors and hardcore enthusiasts though.

What GBC? I had the lime green one.

MadLad1111d ago

Just the typical purple you normally saw.

Dwarrior1111d ago

I've often wondered what could be possible on old consoles with modern programming techniques. That would be something to see Genesis and SNES games being made again.

Skate-AK1111d ago (Edited 1111d ago )

They actually kind of did that with Ion Fury. Check it out. https://store.steampowered....

Dwarrior1111d ago

Nice. I was aware of this one, and other retro games as well. Like The Last Faith looks awesome.

I was more referring to making games for old consoles. I recall reading about Need for Speed Pro Street being made for the GENESIS (Megadrive) in South America some years back!

MadLad1110d ago

Ion Fury would have melted PCs at the time of the Build Engine's popularity.
It's awesome how much they pushed out of that engine.

I think more people will comment on this page than will actually buy it at that price. Right now it’s sitting at 3.
