Bayonetta 2 Wii U GamePad Functionality Explained

What you may not know about Bayonetta 2, is that it’s possible to play the entire game using the touchscreen on the GamePad alone. But how useful is it as a control method?

A week ago, I would have said the exact same thing and while it's not a patch on the normal controls, I was really surprised at how well it works. It's a nice feature for someone who wants a slightly more accessible option for combat.

I have no problem with it as an optional form of control. For handicapped people, it may be a form of control they can use more easily.

I made the same point regarding handicapped players a few articles back, and what I got back as a response was basically " you know that's not why they put a one-handed mode in".

Anyways, I agree that it's a great option that speaks highly of Platinum's foresight; looking out for a minority like that will always score a dev some bonus points with gamers.

To be fair though, Ninja gaiden on DS did this too.

I'm not trying to downplay PG, but they were not the first to do it.

It is also an OPTIONAL feature. He even says in the video that you can use a number of other controllers with the game. So there is nothing for you to be disappointed about.

Having the option certainly doesn't hurt. I know I will be enjoying this game the more conventional way, but to each their own!

I'll give it a try. I said the same thing about Pikmin 3 and today I only play that game only on the Gamepad, on the touchscreen. Could bethe same for Bayo.

It really does - Sadly, YouTube compression doesn't give the game justice. The frame rate is quick and mostly smooth. Seriously one of the best looking games this year.

I still love Nintendo, and plan to eventually get a Wii-U to play Smash and MK, but damn they really dropped the ball with this console. Sorry Ninty fans, but the stupid iPad controller was the worst idea they ever had...well aside from making the main hardware design goals for wii-u to be as small and quiet as the original wii.

I'm sure I'll get downvoted to hell for it, and I root for Nintendo to rise to their former glory, but it's frustrating how few fans will admit what an idiotically designed console this thing is. If not for their first party slave workers churning out their yearly sequels (and doing a damn good job (not sarcasm)), this console would already be completely dead.

that can be your opinion, but can anyone who likes Nintendo at least admit that from a business standpoint trying to restrike lightning where the wii did, using a gimmick that's been in everyone's pocket (touchscreen) isn't likely to spark the same interest that the motion controls did? And can anyone who likes Nintendo admit that even if graphics aren't paramount, it is a HORRIBLE horrible horrible idea to base the design of the console off of the size and noise level of an 8 year old console (or however many years) after the longest most drawn out console generation since the dawn of video gaming?

Can't my opinion be that it is not badly designed? I don't get what's so wrong with it. I liked it the same way I like the idea of remote play on Vita. It may not be huge revolution but it is pretty comfortable in my hands and has some nifty uses.

edit oh definitely. Trying to make a direct Wii followup was a foolhardy but it's two years after the fact now so Nintendo has to make the best of it. Since Mario Kart came out I think there's more interest in it so it will at least not go out on a whimper. It's not perfect but I like it for what it is and what it has to offer such as those first party games we've mentioned. :)

My issue with it is that it isolates everyone else. You can't even use 2 at once, and they said if you could it'd like half the resolution or fps of the game or whatever. Sorry, but that's just sad.

Also because if you are a Nintendo "FAN" and you own a Wii U, then you have already acknowledged that the system is great and the GamePad works quite well for a lot of games. Also the off TV function is very handy. There are a lot of times that someone else wants to watch TV so I can switch and still play. Also I don't always want to sit in my living room or game room and play. I can actually take it on my front porch and play with no problems. I can play while in bed if I want. I can watch Amazon Prime, Hulu, Netflix, Youtube, and use Mii Verse all while not using a TV. I can use an I pad or other tablet for this same thing, But with this system I can do it all in one. If I want to play a game right after watching a movie or show on Amazon, I just push the home button and select the game I want. "Man what a Stupid design", will never come out of my mouth. More like this is Genius and it is what Microsoft wished they had accomplished with all their TV watching garbage they have tried with the XB1, which I own and collects dust next to my used every day Wii U.

@MSBAUSTX, as I said, I'm not a hater, and I plan to get a WiiU myself because like many other Nintendo fans, I like what they do when they do things well.

But as far as it being genius, I don't think comparing it to the other stupidly designed, overpriced, and overly compromising console you own is helping your case much.

The design doesn't allow multiple pads of that type to be connected, which is bad. It drives the price up to near the much more powerful PS4, which is bad. Nearly every developer jumped ship since no one owns the overpriced console which is only so expensive because of the pad, bad. Both competitors already offer the secondary gameplay second screen stuff like mapviews, and content controlling, etc, so it's only uniquely used in a handful of titles, bad.

The fact that it's nice as a media viewing tablet, and that it saves you a few bucks on a 3DS by letting you play in bed might even it out for you, but personally (and apparently this sentiment is shared by millions of gamers and developers as well) I wish they would have just included a regular gamepad and used that part of the budget on either making the whole console cheaper, or making the whole thing more powerful, giving their devs more breathing room to make games. Now they probably spend half the time optimizing and squeezing assets into the miniscule power available, stretching out the time it takes to develop anything, and making the console unattractive to any devs but themselves.

last part of the bad design I didn't mention is the tiny 2gigs of ram, and half of it is wasted on the worst and least capable OS of all three. Is that a good thing somehow?

You complain about graphics where Nintendo hasn't been on the cutting edge of for years and has done very well still. Your gripe about the multiplayer family friendly aspect of it the gamepad saying it only works for one local multiplayer is ignorant as well. I played COD BO2 with 3 other people in my house while I was on the game pad and it worked great. Oh there is also Mario Kart which utilizes it for local multiplayer with 4 OTHER PEOPLE, Nintendo Land is a work of art with making the game pad Multiplayer with others locally and the sports games use them as well with golf and Baseball, which is really fun. Also Hyrule Warriors will be a locally CO OP game using the....wait for it.... Game PAD. so your comments are off topic and you are a Troll. Good day SIR!

Only one gamepad works at a time, so it doesn't work for symmetrical multiplayer(unless you're not using it with all it's glorious touchscreen functionality), which is what I said. Of course you can still play local multiplay, but the main gimmick for the console that drives it's price almost all the way up to the far more powerful PS4 is the iPad controller. You can only use one of those at a time.

I also didn't complain about graphics in this particular post, so not sure where you're getting that from, but if you're going to compromise on graphics, make it for a good reason, not because you're trying to keep the console small and quiet.

I don't think I've ever met or seen a post even once by a gamer, or even clueless parent of a gamer that was like
"OMG, the XBox(or PS) fan noise, little billy we have to take this thing back, it's keeping us up at night, and we don't have room for auntie to stay over because this huge console is taking up the whole house."

It was a clueless directive given by clueless leadership. You may not believe it, but I am still a huge Nintendo fan. I just think they're going to have to make stupid compromises like possibly going on mobile phones, or something worse, all as a result of the stupid compromises they made on this console.

I guess they need fans with no understanding of how easily this same console for the same price could have been much better, or they wouldn't still be standing, but stating my opinion backed up with actual concrete reasoning doesn't make me a troll even if you disagree with my reasoning.

Such a good game yet so underrated by both the Sony and MS Fanbase. Then Bayonetta 2 becomes a wii u exclusive, now they want it on xbox and playstation; and im just welp why couldn't people show more support to the first game when it wasn't selling well on both ps3 and 360. This is why we need NINTENDO!!! . I mean only REMASTERS ARE ONLY THE GAMES COME TO THE SO CALLED NEXT GEN SYSTEMS.( Most of the are already played on PC) What did you invest your money for (remakes and REMASTERS)! Come to the WII U and enjoy the sweetness of NINTENDO is HD AND smooth challenging and Fun game-play IF you are a GAMER.
