Wing Commander 3 is free on Origin for an undisclosed period

Before Chris Roberts fell into a Star Citizen shaped vat of internet money he was one of the main chaps behind the Wing Commander series. If you’ve played any of those and fancy the chance to do so for free, Wing Commander 3: Heart of the Tiger is free on Origin for the time being.

Wing Commander III: A retro review [Player Attack]

Jimmy the Geek writes: When was the first time you were blown away by a game? I remember distinctly what it was for me. Back in the 90’s a video game TV show The Zone showed footage from a game that looked like a movie. Like something you would see in the cinema. It had everything: Space ships, explosions, A big cat style monster and an all star cast including Mark Hamill and Tom Wilson (or as I knew them at the time Luke Skywalker and Biff). This was the first time the potential of what could be done with a game was evident to me. The game in question was Wing Commander III: Heart of the Tiger and it is still incredible.

WASDuk presents a list of seminal PC games that you'll want to stick back on your hard drive ASAP

CursedHero3239d ago

Awesome write-up. I'm really confused as to why Geobros keeps reporting it though, nothing he's reported applies to the article directly, so...

Arkworthy3239d ago

It's okay. Fixed them both quite some time ago, though..

Rebel_Scum3238d ago

Jones in the fast lane. That is one game I can always revisit.

Agent_hitman3238d ago

My recommendation:

C&C Generals Zero Hour
Yuri's Revenge
Battle Realms

Arkworthy3238d ago

Oh, Yuri's Revenge! So many awesome memories about whole fleets of wobbly flying saucers laying waste to everything!

Worthy if only to watch again Red Alert 3 intro (sigh)

Neonridr3679d ago

I loved the original Red Alert intro.

Ha all those West Wood fmv's brings me back!

I was initially put off by Resident Evil 2's instance on CG for it's cut scenes. I had really thought the presence of real people added something special to the first game. I say "had" because I doubt I'd agree with myself now.

But it was so beautifully campy. I don't think I'd love Barry Burton half as much as I do were it not for the slightly odd-looking bloke playing him in the first game.

BARRY BURTON.

Spikeantestor3678d ago

Well I suppose my dirty little secret, the reason for which I don't think I'd still be impressed with it, is that I actually, at the tender age of 13, didn't see it as campy. believe it or not, it struck me as dangerous and adult.

ianos3678d ago

I'm exactly the same. I think I was also 13 when it came out...
