This is such a strange package to review, because essentially it's a rerelease of a six-year old game with a smattering of new content that's designed for hardcore fans. It's relatively high price makes it difficult to recommend to newcomers and beginners, though. It would have been nice if FireFly and publisher Gamecock had bundled the original Stronghold into the package as well, but they didn't. Unless you're a die-hard Stronghold Crusader fan, Stronghold Crusader Extreme offers nothing more than a somewhat pricey trip back to turn-of-the-decade strategy gaming.

This is the first in a new series of articles I’ll be writing, which I’m calling the GOG spotlight. It will highlight some of the many “Good Old Games” available for purchase on GOG.com. I’ll be starting with Stronghold Crusader. Because of the way Stronghold Crusader is distributed here, I’ll be splitting up the spotlight into a couple of sections. This spotlight will be divided in two between Stronghold Crusader HD and Stronghold Crusader Extreme HD.
2K Games announced today that they will soon be releasing a bundle of five games from the PC real-time strategy series Stronghold. The Stronghold Collection will be released in North America on October 27th.
