The True Spiritual Successor to Gamespot?

Here is episode 7 of: How to Build a Bomb--the series of short video clips chronicling the beginnings of the upstart videogame site Giantbomb.com. Creators Jeff Gerstmann and Ryan Davis have recently brought two other ex-Gamespot employees into the madness: Vinny Caravella, and Brad Shoemaker.

This is a rare opportunity to see the beginnings of what is likely to become the next major videogames review website.

To put it simply: Geeky electronic music+ zany green-screen videos + corporate-free reviews=WIN. Full launch is scheduled for later this summer. Check it out.

The video interface on giantbomb is very good and has an innovative Mac-like feel to it. Notice how comments are linked realtime to the video and appear as bubbles to those watching the video. I've never seen integration on a level like this on other websites, its cool!

How much do you get paid to write awfully worded comments to try and make Giant Bomb look like IGN?

It's from Viddler music generator you utter noob. It's on tons of other sites...

Dude, I didn't get paid anything, zero, chill out. This is a gaming news site and last I heard, a new game site (especially as they are close to full on launch), may well be of interest to some on N4G. Besides, the only other story about Giantbomb seemed to be a broken link.

Excuse me for thinking that a small, non-corporate funded site run by legitimate game journalists may be of interest to someone on N4G, a site where people whine to no end (rightfully to a degree) about biased journalism. I am not submitting this for the benefit of Gerstmann's site, I'm submitting for the interest of you all here.

Also, I don't know if you noticed, but Gamespot is now the internet version of G4. It is FAR worse than IGN. Watch the new OTS, if you can it is really painful. Even those in the forums over there agree.

BTW, Gamespot was the first Internet game site I ever visited. They knew their Sh- and cared passionately about what they did. Contrast that with now: remember the recent KZ2 preview, The writer didn't even know that the baddies are called Helghast, he referred to them as "Nazi looking guys" or something like that, unbelievably sad.

So long as they aren't biased, they will succeed.NO ONE,and I repeat,NO ONE,will bother with them if they hand out incredibly suspect scores and Reviews,so I'm hoping Jeff and Ryan have enough sense in them to leave the bias from GameSpot-AT GameSpot.

I think they need Alex Navarro to 'complete' this 'new' GameSpot.

Rybnik5816d ago

Agreed, although rumor has it that Alex took a job at Harmonix.

v1c1ous5816d ago

they are going to give a score to a game that the liked but everyone hated, or a low score to a hyper game because that's what they felt it deserved, and SOMEONE is going to cry foul.

you can't please everyone. this site should be an indication.

pwnsause5816d ago

well as long as their not Biased and give review scores that are not wierd and accurate, then they will get a hits from me. they should remember what happened when they worked at gamespot.

Lets-Game5816d ago

Im still not sure about this site but gamespot did screw up big time. was also my first gaming site and only used it when needed to know anything game related but now I barely visit it. Using forums there is ridiculous you get warnings every day cant even discuss what you want, even in off topic.

A Matter Of Trust: What The Game Industry Should Do To Win Gamers Back

Skewed and Reviewed have written an Opinion Piece covering issues in the gaming industry, how current issues were issues years ago, and what can be done to help restore consumer trust.

anast1d 1h ago

Nothing. It's up to the gamers to stop consuming content from companies that they don't agree with.

Garethvk12h ago

How do you know if you agree with it or not unless you play it? Which without conventions forces gamers to rely on trailers. Perhaps Demos should be made more frequently. But companies need to do better as well.

anast11h ago

Wait until release. Watch Gameplay. Exercise patience.

Garethvk11h ago

But is that not what they have now? Tons of gameplay or are you talking about watching actual gamers play it versus the trailers and streams? The big issue is that some companies pay streamers and influencers and they create content but for me; that is hardly a fair, unbiased, and factual look at a game.

Get rid of the suits in the industry and job done!!

Garethvk12h ago

They usually are attached to the money sadly. It would be nice to have gamers in charge but you have so much money invested that business people are needed. Hence the issue; you need people who know business but are also gamers who know have an eye to the community. It sounds simple in theory that if you give gamers quality games that they want to play; money will be made. But that is not always so.
