Animal crossing Wii - Game of the year?

Anyone who has played the Nintendo 64, Gamecube or DS version of Nintendo's prized Animal crossing series will know that they are some of, if not the, most addictive games you will ever play. Wild world on the DS has gone on to sell eight million copies globally since launch and becomes one of the DS's best selling games. When Nintendo confirmed that a Wii version of the game was in the works the excitement started to build so we compiled a list of what we at pwnamon would like to see in the game… and why it will be Game of the year.

Don't even try to compare SMG to Animal Crossing in light of the competition. SMG was hyped to be the AAA, revolution for the platform genre. That game was the TRUE sequel to SM64. I've played it many times and the critics spoke true, it deserves any GOTYs it got in 08. Though I must say, please provide some proof would ya?

This is Animal Crossing we're talking about. Totally different in when you look at the 08' lineup, it's owned. Bottomline. Nintenboys are really reaching out for anything to get attention these days now that Super Smash Bros. has come and gone.

The animal crossing series is a new nintendo ip that does depend on networking and it has been succesful as a series. its been in development for 2 years atleast. The developer has interesting ideas like being able to receive emails and cell phone mesages . Being able to design your own stuff and have friends visit your twon and buy stuff even when you are offline.(NINTENDO'S ONLINE INFRASTRUCTURE IS BOUND TO IMPROVE< LOOK AT THE TRANSITION BETWEEN SSBB AND MK)

To say that this game is owned is far from the truth, no one really knows much about the game and you obviously cannot say it will be bad.

Another point to consider is that you haven't played nay of the games you have listed as AAA or the titles to kill AC. You expect them to be good so does everyone who sees most games for their system.

Assassin's creed was hyped as AAA and game of the year and it failed to deliver on what it promised (i have actually played the game), its repetitive and boring. Gta 4 hasn't really offered a next-gen experience as many procliamed it would and it did not impact mario kart as much as fanboy's expected and it didn't really do anything to wii sales.

There is some weird obsession with graphics this gen that is unfortunate, i owned a ps2 last gen and i got classics like ICO, its no technical wonder but artistically it was brilliant. Designers tried to meet technical standards but they always went on to offer strong gameplay and interesting mechanics.

This gen its the same stuff i've played except it looks prettier.. No gameplay hasn't changed , there's more physics and all that but few games have yet to employ anything that actually changes how you play the game. Again gta 4 being a culprit.

You said nintendo has shovelware on the system and attributed it to the system's possible failure "like the gamecube". The gamecube didn't really have much shovelware when comapred to the ps2. Which reigned as the king of shovelware last gen. Did it ruin the console...no...

The ps2 wasn't a hardcore console to the core and it was the weakest which somehow didn't affect it just like its predecessor the ps1. The ps2 had an install base of 120 million and it had tons of harcore titles but to my knowledge none of them sold 20 million.

NO HARDCORE GAME ON THE LEADING PLATFORM OF ALL TIME SOLD ENNOUGH TO CONSTITUTE 1/5 th of its userbase. Does it make the console bad cos it didn't break expectations with hardcore titles every single time , no its ana awesome console.

Wii owners aren't really grasping at straws , we have fatal frame exclusive to the system, we have a return of kid icarus, we have tenchu exclusive to the system and we have monster hunter 3 exclusive to the system which will catapult it in sales when it comes out.There are more games from good developers but the argument isn't about that.

No section of this post is meant to flame an other system ot provide flame bait. MGS4 will be great no doubt. just to peope in general if your console of choice doesn't have game of the year does it really matter?

P.s people said SMG wasn't going ot get GOTY when compared to AssCreed, Bioshock(excellent game), cod4 and uncharted. but it did. every game that's got solid gameplay and iss well recieved is a contender for goty and games no one knows anything about shldn't be bashed or praised.

Wi-Fi isn't as bad as it is made out to be. It can handle 12 people online, just as Mario kart proved and with zero-lag.

Games are indeed fun but in terms of addictiveness, Civilization, Peggle, StarCraft and multiplayer COD4 take the cake. For me, Fallout 2 is THE most addicting game ever.

Also, Animal Crossing GOTY!? LOL, More like Joker Of The Year. No offense to Animal Crossing but Wii has SSBB and NMH and that's just the Wii.
Real GOTY contenders are Fallout 3, GTA4, MGS4, StarCraft 2 and LittleBigPlanet. Then there are other heavy wieghts like Gears 2, Resistance 2, Spore and such.

But never came out of Japan as it sold very poorly, the gamecube version is actually a port. Check wikipedia or just google it.

As for Fallout 3 don't knock it till you've tried it mate. Fallout 1 and 2 were fantastic games and this looks well to expand it, albeit in a slightly different perspective.

I'm also a fan of Fallout 1 & 2 but the thing is that we should look at Fallout 3 as an spin-off, not a main game eve though it has 3 in front of Fallout.

Of course it's gonna be garbage compared to the Fallout 2 but as modern spin-off it's gonna be awesome.

Yeah I feel like an idiot for saying that but I was lazy and was on my wii typing it so I didn't feel like researching it. But Fallout 3 will be good just not fallout good, and as for a spinoff thats a good point to make, I also enjoyed Fallout: tactics but I didn't enjoy it like I do the actual fallout series. Plus Interplay is gone and Bethesda are gonna have to consolefy a lot of elements of it. Sorry for the rant on Fallout 3 but I'm just mad over consolficatoin of games I enjoyed on PC years back ie. System Shock 2 - Bioshock. Deus Ex - DE Invisible War. and now it will probably be Fallout 2 - Fallout 3.

Good call on BioShock and Deus Ex 2. They were definitly inferior to System Shock 2 and original Deus Ex but were still fun. And Fallout 3 is indeed an updated Fallout: Tactics which was indeed good but definitly not Fallout 1 & 2 good :)

@ 3.2no you see to me its not about graphics, its about nintendo and thir developers having the opportunity this gen to grab their existing ips and doing something amazing but not doing so and instead going the easy way. example

metroid- you have online this gen, use it.
zelda tp- its the gamecube game with wii controls badly implemented
mario party 8- same thing as the last with some features lost, and with a ton of mini games that use the same controls which makes u feel like its 5 games but with different coats. waggle can only do so many things.

It's far too early to be talking GOTY already. GTA4 will be like HAlo3 it gets hyped supposed to be the best thing since the invention of internet porn and it fails to live up to it all.

MGS4 is a likely winner but we still have E3 to see what may be coming out for the holiday season.

GOTY normally goes to the strongest 1 player game and not strongest multiplay4er game. If it was best multi MK:W/SSBB look good and matbe GOW2/R2 etc. have a chance.

And it's all just opinions who's to say that AC isn't better than GTA4/MGS4?

Before this turns into a wii bashing session. Remember this Nintendo is a GAMING company, games and only games. Sony is an ELECTRONICS company and Microsoft is a SOFTWARE/HARDWARE company. Nintendo need to capitalize on their key franchises to make money to create new IPs. While Sony and Microsoft could just pull out of the console race and would it would barely hurt their overall net profit. Nintendo cares about its gamers because thats all they have and thats their primary (and basically only) sense of income. I'm not bashing Sony or M$ but having you defend them is exactly what they want you to do. A game is a game whether it is made by Ninty, Sony or M$ and instead of caring about your company of loyalty only consider everything with equal amount of value. And back to main article, if you actually played Wild World with your friends than you would see the awesome potential of Animal Crossing Wii online. Oh and wii owners take a look at your Channels and Settings manual and go to page 29, take a look at the picture and you will see ANIMAL CROSSING WII! I was wondering if anybody else noticed this?

i did look it up and now i remember seeing those and i wondered how to create em.. so this game was in development before the wii was released to the public.. thats for sure..

though i don't think thats an indication of anything that special.. to be honest Mario Kart wii has racing themed stuff on the message board..

so this is probably something that the game send you once you have done something.. but then again it could be that if you install the ANIMAL CROSSING CHANNEL the game continues without you.. and if nintendo wants to send you something cool.. they send you a message and you can pick it up ingame..

though these CHANNELS are killing the space.. i deleted my MARIO KART channel.. just to free up the space.. i can use the ingame channel for everything.. though i wish i would get messages on my board about tournaments.. ever since i deleted the channel the messages stopped so its kinda a bummer..

if this will have an online community and you can visit stranger's towns then it will be awsome.. if its all friend codes then it will suck a bit.. or a lot..

Its addictive yes but I look over at Harvest Moon and laugh the hello out of Animal Crossing. But do you guys actuaaly question the sales power this thing has? Think about it you go and create your own virtual town in a forest full of animals. Every parent will get it. this is crack for kids. Its like neopets and webkins, except on a console.

My dreamcast gets more playtime than the PS3. SF3 3rd Strike, KoF and MVC takes up my time. Then the Wii has SSBB, MK:W, DBZ BT3, SMG, Zelda etc. Dont get me wrong I love my PS3 but im sick of all the FPS, ARPGS, and PC stlyed games. Gimme a good JRPG and MGS4 and im sold on the PS3!!

I will be honest... Nintendo suck this gen... Gamecube was soooo under rated and had amazing titles... wii seems to be over rated with poo titles (a few great ones in there)...

I first played AC on the GC and was always pretty much a hardcore gamer... I found it hard to pass on AC because it was so different to anything I have ever played... I loved it :-) ... Sure the casual games suck ass but theres exceptions to all the rules... When a game is as good as AC you find yourself contribicting yourself... It must be because its done so well compared to other casual games...This is due to it being very different, artisticly amazing, lifespan etc... Theres at least a years worth of gameplay in this title just to see all the events in a year...

I doubt it will be GOTY in all honesty in the harsh world of the internet... But as a great game it possibly could be a personal fave for me this year... Funy how people will mock the childish artistic style and no "hardcore" game elements when LBP for the ps3 (another game I will buy) seems very similar in the sense of childish artwork and no "hardcore" game elements...

sooooo whilst most casual games suck there are those stand out titles in the genre like AC (and maybe LBP when I play it)... AC is truly a game that rewards you the more time you spend on it :-)

oh and the music in AC is awesome

Why AC can totally crush any game that comes out during that year? Mii creation. Look at how new comers just love it. People still have Mii parades online. What happens when they give you Mii a house now? What happens when you get trophies for your games now? I mean really you could do some fun things in the game but every thing was really laid back. We know animal crossing will have animals in it but I'll bet that most cities will just be emailed to people.

The best part of a game like this would be the inclusion of a external storage since HD may not be on the list any more as they are too bulky for the Wii design. I'm sure every one has there own GOTY but our voted doesn't count as much as people from the industry.

Nintendo loves to release new input devices/hardware with games, and could you imagine if they released two sku's for AC?

I would dout anything like that would happen, but even if they opened the system up and let you play games from the SD cards, and include a 2G card with the game would be pretty neat.

Oh well, I never got into AC, but I might rent it and check it out.
