Crytek Goes "Free-to-Work"

Crytek Employees aren’t being paid and some of them are walking out as the company is in danger of going under. Cliff Bleszinski announces Boss Key, the new studio working alongside Nexon to bring gamers a “Free-to-Play” Sci-Fi, Arena shooter. The talks moves into gaming personalities and the need to put a face in front of an entire team of developers.

dark-kyon3614d ago

sorry for them.but they should keep doing pc games only, his success was sell new graphic card, not games.

Future_20153614d ago

What will happen to all the cry engine 3 games in development from other companies?

nicksetzer13614d ago

Nothing, someone will probably buy the engine as well as many of their assets if they bankrupt. Just probably split up between multiple companies, like THQ's assets were.

elhebbo163614d ago

Theres still plenty in development. got this from wiki:

-Arena of Fate
-Armored Warfare
-BattleCry
-Everybody's Gone to the Rapture
-Evolve
-Homefront: The Revolution
-Human Element
-Hunt: Horrors of the Gilded Age
-Kingdom Come: Deliverance
-Project Heart and Soul
-Ryse: Son of Rome(lol)
-The Collectables

And of course, Star Citizen. There is plenty 'TBA' I didn't feel worth mentioning.

Master-H3614d ago

Cryteck should sell all of their IPs to get money , then hire new people and start making new IPs, the way they handle their current IPs is what lead them to this.

Timesplitter143614d ago

they should also hire one game designer to work with their current 250 graphics programmers

PinkFunk3614d ago

Hoohooheeehawwhawwhawww....

I did have a good laugh :)

Flutterby3614d ago

Could you imagine a crytek tech demo with actual game play , like what about the crisis series with actual fun game play.

UltraNova3614d ago (Edited 3614d ago )

Nice one Timesplitter14, almost as funny as if someone is still hopping for a new Timesplitters game ;-)

I don't know why everyone is so negative about the Crysis series...the games weren't groundbreaking sure except for their visuals of course but still I could find something enjoy full in them... does every fps out there have to be a COD clone to be considered ok? Or do we really need Crysis to be a 4hr long Michael Bay style SP then the COD like multiplayer?

elhebbo163614d ago

They kinda did it with far cry so why not. Plus I think Crysis has hit a dead trail.

The real problem is that the top games that are using the engine are still not out yet, and because of that Crytek hasn't cashed in percentages of the amount sold.

Roccetarius3614d ago (Edited 3614d ago )

It's kinda ironic, since they wanted to move on to a F2P business model. Free to work seems fitting. Unless they pull out of their graphical obsession, and start doing both in a balanced manner, they'll be going down.

mydyingparadiselost3614d ago

Can't wait until microworkactions start to become a thing.

Eonjay3614d ago

Yeah good for them because I'm not working for free. I have bills.

Crytek Gives Brief Update on New Crysis Game; Studio Has a "Great Team" Working on It

Crytek gives an update on their new Crysis game, confirming that it's still in development, with more to share down the road.

DefenderOfDoom2179d ago

Actually would love a new Crysis campaign.

P_Bomb179d ago

Ditto. Ran through them again last year. I’ll grab the new one.

Crazyglues179d ago (Edited 179d ago )

Yeah they really messed up by not adding the Multi-player to the Crysis Triogly because while the campaign was fun I really loved the Multi-player and couldn't wait to see what it was going to be like on current gen.

They could have dropped new maps and DLC and fans would have bought it up... -But they dropped the ball and did just the Campaign's with no new content or story, which was just crazy.

Anyway still hoping Crysis 4 is the whole Chicken Sandwhich with all the toppings.... Can't wait.

PrinceOfAnger179d ago (Edited 179d ago )

Yeah It will probably be 5 years development

SimpleSlave178d ago (Edited 178d ago )

That's awesome. So how long till the studio closes and everyone gets fired?

Series S owners: "but can it run crysis doh?"

Lawbreakers was never successful, and therefore not worth reviving. It was hero-shooter [incorrectly labeled as an arena] that failed cash in off the popularity of Overwatch.

Gwiz401d ago

LMAO I guess he really thought it was going to be competition.
This wasn't the only game that failed and claiming to be something entirely different.

Battleborn anyone?.

IamTylerDurden1401d ago (Edited 401d ago )

Battleborn flopped but had more going for it than Lawbreakers. Oh how i had wanted to like BB. It had solid art and characters and a campaign but the gameplay nor story were there.

kryteris401d ago

it having mobile graphics should have targeted that.

Inverno401d ago

I'm still amazed this guy opened a new studio, and then shut it down after their first game flopped. Your excuses didn't matter cause all that people got was their money taken, and a product they could no longer play.
