By now it’s known that Quantic Dream has been working on one or more PS4 exclusives in collaboration with Sony Worldwide Studios, but how long have they been at it? Quite long.

Hopefully their next game has insane graphics then

Dark113617d ago

Oh i'm sure the graphics will be amazing
i'm more worried about the gameplay.

98xpresent3617d ago

My bad bro , I didn't mean to dislike

But I agree with you!!

Prime1573617d ago

Gameplay was solid, you just didn't like the style of gameplay, there's a difference.

lelo3617d ago (Edited 3617d ago )

I agree. Quantic Dream "games" have great graphics, decent story but lack gameplay. Actually we shouldn't call them games, but interactive movies.

I wish they tried something different then their usual type of "games". I wouldn't mind seeing from them a 3rd person RPG.

LOGICWINS3617d ago

LOL, why would anyone disagree with that statement? Why wouldn't gameplay be a concern if you're buying a game? If all you care about is graphics, you might as well just watch Blu-Rays mastered in 4K.

MysticStrummer3617d ago (Edited 3617d ago )

@Logic - "why would anyone disagree with that statement?"

Because they enjoy the unusual change of pace that QD brings to the table compared to a virtual ocean of games with very similar gameplay.

QD needs improved writing, especially if they're going for stories with multiple endings, but I enjoy their gameplay. It's just different, and that's not a bad thing.

TekoIie3616d ago (Edited 3616d ago )

@MysticStrummer

Replay value is one the most important things a game should have IMO and QD's games are lacking in that.

Why couldnt we control Jody when we were running from the cops in the forest and try different strategies to escaping rather than just tapping/holding buttons for quick time events?

Making gameplay decide the outcome in the story is something David Cage just doesn't seem willing to try.

MysticStrummer3616d ago

@Tekolie - I can see that, though I don't agree that replay value is necessarily tied to the ability to try different things. There have been very linear games that I played again and again just because they were fun, and there have been more open games that I played through once and never looked at again. The opposite is also true. For me, replay value is the general fun I have with the game, and wanting to see the story again. But, everyone likes different things.

My comment was simply stating that many people enjoy QD's gameplay, so Logic didn't need to LOL and act shocked about people disagreeing with Dark. QD has their own style, and no game is for everyone. There are many games which don't have that style so I personally enjoy the change.

UltraNova3616d ago

Why cant 'interactive movies' be a genre on its own and critisized in that light, fair and square?

Why do people have to complaint about these games all the time? Does every game need to play like COD to be to mainstream satisfaction?

Well guess what these games are NOT mainstream!

The world will be in awe once Quantic Dream bring out a PS4 game. :)

HeWhoWalks3617d ago (Edited 3617d ago )

Judging by their most recent releases, graphics are hardly an issue for them.

I'm more interested to know what kind of game it is. While I enjoyed Beyond, the noir thriller feel of Heavy Rain was far more entertaining.

isa_scout3617d ago

You know it will. Hopefully its Kara as that tech trailer for Kara showed huge potential. Seeing as it gained a lot of attention I doubt Quantic Dream would make a trailer as good as Kara then do nothing with it.

robtion3616d ago

I really hope so, that would be amazing. Don't see it happening though :(

Sevir3616d ago

Beyond 2 Souls for PS4 announced at GamesCon 2014, released this November with mind blowing graphics and better controls and deleted scenes.

New PS4 IP announced shortly after and that gets a release date for 2015!

Cant wait. :)

robtion3616d ago

That would be awesome, especially if the new game is Kara.

F4sterTh4nFTL3617d ago (Edited 3617d ago )

So that is why Beyond Two Souls was disappointing. Maybe if they focused less on tinkering with the PS4 and making tech demos, Beyond Two Souls would have turned out much better on the PS3.

cyclindk3617d ago

I thought it was pretty good, for being non-standard sort of game. Visuals of course were second to none, but not a bad game at all.

HeWhoWalks3617d ago

So studios can't work on multiple projects at once? If you were disappointed with Beyond, cool, doesn't mean everyone agrees.

Sevir3616d ago

By the same side of the coin. Not everyone shares your opinion of Beyond:Two Souls being dissapointing. It may not have been as good as Heavy Rain. But it was very much a good game.

HeWhoWalks3616d ago (Edited 3616d ago )

@ Sevir: I said I was disappointed with Beyond? Really? I'd advise to read it again.

GribbleGrunger3617d ago (Edited 3617d ago )

My guess would be a PS4 version of Beyond: Two Souls, and a new IP.

MightyNoX3617d ago

I've known about the new IP for sometime but can you clarify where the remaster of Beyond originated from? Was it an insider leak?

GribbleGrunger3617d ago (Edited 3617d ago )

I can't remember exactly which 'insider' mentioned it to be honest, but it does make sense when you take into consideration that they had a PS4 engine up and running while they were developing Beyond. In fact they then retrofitted some of the techniques they learned on the PS4 engine to the PS3 engine. So it's not much of a stretch to assume a port is likely.

pyramidshead3617d ago (Edited 3617d ago )

I held off for that fact really. Was gonna get it cheap on PS3 but with all the 2013 games getting remade for PS4 I kinda had a slight incling that there'd be a PS4 version.

Obviously it's not confirmed and if it never is the Ps3 version will be even cheaper :p

MysticStrummer3617d ago (Edited 3617d ago )

I hope it's a game based on that Kara video. Great potential there.

PrinceOfAllSaiyans3617d ago

I hope they turn "The Sorcerer" into a game. That was interesting.

Rob_Ko3617d ago

I prefer something with that robot Kara they showed a long time ago

Haki11123617d ago

that Kara tech demo was awesome so was The Sorcerer

-Foxtrot3617d ago

They could do both I suppose. I wouldn't mind if they did a game with a collection of short stories. It would be like Quantic Dream: Pixar Shorts :D

Would be really interesting.

MasterCornholio3617d ago

I'm dying for a good comedy from them. The sorcerer would be great.

Doge3617d ago

I think comedy would be a fitting genre for David Cage, since his writing is a joke.

BitbyDeath3617d ago

He's no Joss Whedon but certainly better than a lot of the trash that comes out of Hollywood these days.

WeAreLegion3617d ago

Agreed. The Dark Sorcerer was freaking hilarious. He wrote and directed it.

Rob_Ko3617d ago

great news, that actually means we should hear something about this game soon, maybe even Gamescom

Quantic Dream Announces New Publishing Label Spotlight

Quantic Dream has announced a new publishing label, Spotlight, following the reveal of debut title Under the Waves.

sadraiden353d ago

Interesting to see how this works out for them. QD have had a very lucrative partnership with Sony. David Cage is a household name among Playstation owners, and he might not have been if QD stuck with Atari as their publisher. Now they're launching Spotlight so they can circumvent Sony exclusivity? I imagine this isn't the last we'll hear from Spotlight.

Abnor_Mal353d ago (Edited 353d ago )

Weren’t QD bought buy Tencent, and if so then I’m sure there wouldn’t be anymore Sony exclusivity.

Ok it seems to have been NetEase that bought them back in 2022.

mjchitown353d ago

this is not a Sony exclusivity. you can clearly see Xbox One Xbox Series X ps4 ps5

Sonic1881352d ago (Edited 352d ago )

Funny you mention that because in a few Diablo 4 articles, Xbox was the only console that was tagged. It didn't tag playstation or PC and Diablo 4 is a multiplatform game

porkChop353d ago

Bro they had a 3-game contract with Sony. That ended with Detroit. They've haven't been working together since then, so they aren't circumventing anything. They have no obligation to Sony.

CrimsonWing69352d ago

Didn’t they show a Star Wars fake at a Sony event?

I might be wrong about that, but I feel like that’s where I saw if.

porkChop352d ago

I don't think so, Star Wars: Eclipse was announced at the Game Awards.

CrimsonWing69352d ago

@porkchop

The Game Awards, you’re right!

Kekewei352d ago (Edited 352d ago )

I don't think so. There some sources claiming Sony was not happy with their partnership at the end, they even canceled a project that was supposed to be the 4th ps exclusive from QD.

QD is gold! They make excellent games

mastershredder352d ago

Can’t wait for all those quicktime events and bash-you-with-boredom storytelling.

Snookies12352d ago

There's nothing wrong with QTE's. Never understood the hate for them. You press a single button to attack in most games. You press a single button to jump in most games. Why does it then become an issue when you press a button during a cutscene to do something?

JackBNimble352d ago

It's a niche market and not everyone is into that type of game.

RedDevils352d ago

I like their games, it's different from all the trash we seeing every years.

GoodGuy09352d ago

God was Detroit a gem. Hope that their new games are at least on par.

Why Quantic Dream sold up after 25 years

From GI.biz: "Today, Quantic Dream embarks on a new chapter as it is brought into the fold of NetEase – the Chinese publisher's first European acquisition.

Over the past quarter of a century, the French studio has built a reputation for itself on the back of cinematic titles such as Heavy Rain, Beyond: Two Souls and Detroit: Become Human. While these games may divide opinion among individual gamers, generally speaking they have been well received by critics and praised for attempting something different when it comes to interactive storytelling.

The high profile of these games, and the studio's long-running partnership with PlayStation, put Quantic Dream on the map – to the point where co-CEO Guillaume de Fondaumière (pictured above left) tells GamesIndustry.biz the company has engaged in acquisition discussions with several potential buyers over its lifetime."

I guess another company that will be restricted on what they can and can't say by the Chinese govmt

camel_toad634d ago (Edited 634d ago )

China will be writing the Quantic Dream scripts from here on out.

masterfox634d ago

infinite supply of fried rice?, I kid I kid, most probably cash ?, retirement? running out of ideas, who knows.

rlow1634d ago

Well I wrote a big post on this but somehow it deleted from the stupid glitching advertisement on this site. Does any bodies screen jump around as the advertisement changes up. Just asking.

As for the Chinese buying up game companies. What’s one way to monitor people and behaviors? Through the gaming analytics they get from people playing. I really believe they are trying to manipulate the world as much as possible. Remember the bird nest at their first Olympics. Their Vision of the world all neatly tied up for them.. I know it’s a stretch, but either the Chinese government has a lot of Gamers, or something else is going on behind the scenes.

MadLad634d ago (Edited 634d ago )

Yeah.
It's freaking annoying.

Typing a thought out comment you made on the fly then, bam, you're in an ad and it's gone.

I mean, there's an ad in virtually every square inch of this site. Can I at least make a comment without worrying it's just going to be yeeted out of existence at the last few words?
