Naughty Dog Working Like Crazy On The Last of Us PS4, Comments On C++11 & Uncharted 4′s Exclusivity

With under a month to go before The Last of Us Remastered is released on the PlayStation 4, the team at Naughty Dog are hard at work to wrap it up.

I think it is pretty obvious why uncharted 4 won't be on PS3; They intend to make it a game that takes advantage of what the PS4 is capable of, meaning PS3 just simply wouldn't be able to handle the game properly, even scaled down and ported. Really looking forward to the next uncharted and to see how naughty dog pushes the envelope for this gen.

I guess the conversation exists because not every Uncharted fan has made the jump to PS4. But yeah, it's obvious that UC4 would not be possible on PS3, especially as TLOU was pushing the console to the max anyway.

also i really appreciate the fact that ND aren't messing around with last gen version of UC4. We need to get a move on, i feel like xbox360/ps3 are still holding back next gen consoles

Isn't Uncharted 4 using the same engine that ND used throughout last gen? Unless they do something gameplay wise that couldn't be done on the PS3 wouldn't ND be able scale down the engine to make it run on the PS3?

Meanwhile ND is using the same engine they used last gen to create Uncharted 4 and unless they do something that couldn't be done gameplay wise I don't see any reason why ND wouldn't able to scale down their engine like any 3rd party dev does when making multiplatform games.

The engine has been re-written from the ground up to run on the PS4 and take advantage of the hardware simply put NO.

Yes Theyve said they won't rebuild an engine going into PS4 because they have a perfectly running engine. With that Said, The Engine is now fully optimized for multicore CPU and gpgpu architecture, their PS4 engine will not run in its current form on PS3, not without reconfiguring.

Nah, take a good look at crossgen games and see how they look on both platforms.

That is what you get when you cross streams.
Battlefield 4 looking pretty much like Battlefield 3. Watch Dogs looking like a slightly better/worse lastgen game etc.

Devs need to move on.

People place too much importance on game engines. You can do vastly different things in the same engine in terms of every graphical element and technique imaginable. There will be a night and day difference between Uncharted 3 and Uncharted 4 despite using the same engine.

This is why I love exclusives much more compared to 3rd party multi-plat games because the developer take a lot of time, passion and care to optimize the game's code and resulting performance in relation to maximizing the power of the console it is on.

So gamers get the best quality possible and their time & money's worth even if their's is the inferior one.

During the SNES & Genesis days the two rival consoles' power were used to the max by most 1st, 2nd & 3rd party developers alike. Like in the case of Capcom's Street Fighter II; the Genesis really gave the SNES a good fight because the developers made full use of the console's maximum output.

Sadly today, this "parity clause" by M$ really ruined so many multi-platform games' potential to shine on each respective platforms including their very own Window's PC.

That is why having the less expensive but more powerful & easy to develop for platform gives the gamer a good advantage in regards to high definition quality and fidelity of the game.

I'm glad there are still high profile devs that honor artistic vision over install base. UC4 could easily sell 10million+ copies if they released on both ps3 and ps4. But that would equal compromises, and that's just not the ND way.

The PS3 & 360 should still receive support. You don't just abandon a 165,000 user base within just 1 year of successors.

Although, I do feel the older consoles should receive a version of any given franchise, but it should not come at the expensense, nor to the detriment of the current gen.

Maybe farm out PS360 projects to other parties, let them make PS360 games? Example would be FH2, AC Unity. The current gen needs to evolve into it's true potential.
