Sniper Elite III Review | OnlySP

OnlySP: Is it weird to feel nostalgic for a video game setting? That’s what happened to me when I loaded up Rebellion’s Sniper Elite III and I was greeted to Thompson submachine guns, M1 Garands, MP40s, and the conflict between Axis and Allies. Games set in World War II don’t come out nearly as often as they did about a decade ago, and while there was definitely an oversaturation of them back then, they come out infrequently enough these days to make me a little excited to jump back in. Unfortunately, my excitement was met with a middling experience.

Never played Sniper Elite before, i like the fact that the game is in third person, i will try it, but not now.

I haven't played this one but i've played the previous ones... the game isn't concentrated on "gameplay" more so sniping and sniping physics. Everything else in the game since the series began is par at best... but man shooting people and seeing the xray of how that bullet penetrate that person(s) you shot is effin awesome. Getting accustomed to bullet drop is awesome. Everything that has to do with sniping in this game is awesome. Smgs, pistols are par but I think they are only "par" because the sniper is soooooo effin awesome lOl. also the pistol and smgs, assaults are very inaccurate like in real life back then so it really pisses you off mostly (missing enemies). The story(s) of the genre is good as well.

IDK if they dropped the ball on this one, but the others didn't get great reviews either, if you are looking for something different def. pick it up, although the character animations and other things mentioned above takes away sooo much from the game I still enjoyed it. I think mainly because it was a different experience to what we have grown accustomed to and play every year. Also, did I mention sniping is bad@$$ on this game lOl.

I never really got into the first one, but a friend told me to try the second one out.
There was a free weekend on steam, so I gave it a go.
The games mechanics are OK, not polished (in the second one), but the game was quite fun.

I posted some random stupid shot I managed on my youtube channel a few days ago.

The new one, I havent installed yet, but its a simple type of game.
The bullet drop is new addition which I like.
The game is simply ADS (aim down sight), shoot and watch the xray.

Personally the MP is never good in these types of games, but the SP is pretty fun.
I find that after a while it really is repetitive but its a decent game, and will never get great reviews from 'critics'.
If you read user reviews, the say the same as Chef and I - for some unknown reason its pretty fun.

@PockyKing I do agree, the general game mechanics are not that great, but its fun for a good while.
I do not think its worth the full price, and will only purchase it when its in a steam sale.

I love these games. And the Co-op/Zombies DLCs are fantastic as well. Just a simple fun game.

I never played any previous sniper elite games either but decided to try this one and its fun. The mission areas are very open and large allowing you to take down enemies and objectives as you see fit. Also as everyone else mentioned the sniping is fantastic. Watching someone's skull shatter from a through and through bullet feels very rewarding.

And one other thing that made me giggle - remember in saving private ryan when the sniper sniped the other sniper right through his scope? I tried that totally not expecting it to actually happen but sure enough the bullet shattered the glass of the enemy's scope and blew through his eyeball and out the back of his head. Great stuff ;)

i love how you mentioned something like that because the best part about the scope blowing up by the bullet is the fact that it was done in real life. by the green beret if i remember correctly

Didn't write this review just an FYI.

Never really been impressed with these games though. There's yet to be a sniper game, that in my opinion really is a good sniping game. Sure, the blood and gore make this fun to play for a bit, but the story has been the worst part in each game, and the AI is very wonky. Same for the Ghost Warrior series too.

Bohemia needs to make their own Sniper Simulation game outside of Arma. That's when we'll get a real sniping game.

I played a little bit of it today, the game looks like Uncharted 3 with a Sniper Rifle, I liked it a lot, definitely not a 4.5, I would give it a score between 8 to 8.5. Solid game and if you like sniping a must play.

Bad list ! But shooters aren’t the reason anyone buys a Switch

FreeckyCake448d ago (Edited 448d ago )

Why is it bad? Plus, I never mentioned in the article that shooters are the reason people buy a Switch.

Sniper Elite III Ultimate Edition Switch Review - Hit me with your best shot | Thumb Culture

"Sniper Elite III Ultimate Edition is an excellent port of the original game, and feels right at home on the Switch. Unfortunately repetitive gameplay prevents it from achieving greatness. Nevertheless I would like to pin the Thumb Culture Silver Award over its heart." Phil @ TC
