SCEE’s Ranyard on VR: ‘You get a genuinely emotional experience’

Today’s Evolve in Brighton conference saw virtual reality (VR) take centre stage as a highlight of the event just as it has with a number of international videogame industry show this year. Along with a talk from nDreams’ Patrick O’Luanaigh earlier in the day, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe’s (SCEE) David Ranyard, London Studio Director, spoke about the strengths of VR and the potential future of the PlayStation 4′s Project Morpheus.

I bet it would be pretty emotional when you're getting chased by a [insert: zombie, monster, etc] in Virtual Reality lol. Immersion is the key that makes all the deference. Personally, I can't wait to see the day when you can have VR experiences in movie theaters. (they already are in talks about this, it shouldn't be too far off, relatively speaking)

It's true. Outlast with Oculus can make anyone emotional.

Really excited for VR, hopefully we'll hear more soon. Although when Sony comes out with PM I really hope they work with retailers to have a demo station set up in some places like Best Buy, Gamestop. They really need to let people try them out, its somthing you have to experience, I don't think its somthing that most will buy on a whim via word of mouth.

GameFace CEO Talks Wireless VR, Cloud Gaming & App Stores

But, as with most modern VR HMDs, the GameFace isn’t available to the public yet. VRFocus recently sat down with Mason to discuss when this might change and in what form we’ll receive the device.

VR Needs Wireless, 2.5K Headsets 'From Day One' - GameFace Labs

VRFocus - GameFace Labs, the company behind the wireless, Android-based GameFace virtual reality (VR) has said that it believes the technology needs to be wireless and feature a minimum of a 2.5K resolution 'from day one'. Company CEO Edward Mason said as much to VRFocus in an interview at last month's Silicon Valley Virtual Reality (SVVR) Conference & Expo. Speaking about the headset's 2.5K panel, added in the Mark IV prototype, Mason reasoned that anything below this standard would 'lose the immersion'.
