Gamedaily writes: "Classic arcade shooting hits Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 this summer, with chain attacks, hundreds of enemy planes and two-player co-op.
1942: Joint Strike is a top down vertical shooter in which you pilot one of three planes in an alternate World War II environment, blasting thousands of enemy ships and tanks en route to victory. Bad guys swarm the screen, humongous bosses unleash hundreds of bullets in all directions and things explode in bright orange fireballs. Unlike previous 1942 video games, this is the first game in the series to feature 3-D graphics.
As you sail over a war-torn landscape, you'll spy expertly crafted bridges, buildings and other structures, some of which blow up during fights. Enemy planes clog the screen, performing wonderful and predictable ballets. Bullets sail in all directions, patterns that you'll easily figure out after several plays. In addition, the game runs smoothly, even during the attacks that wipe out everyone, save you of course. Explosions, Titanic-sized bosses; everything looks great."
PSU takes another look back at some of the digital delights found Inside PlayStation Network.
Capcom Europe has today announced a brand new price promotion for five of its most popular downloadable titles. European PlayStation Network members will be able to get hold of Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD, Marvel VS Capcom 2, Super Puzzle Fighter, Age of Booty and 1942 for a reduced price over a set period in the coming months.
VGC writes: "Classic top-down shooters have always been a blast to play. Having to face off against wave after wave of multiple types of enemies at once has been the pinnacle of this genre. There have been many games, like Ikaruga, that have tried to change up gameplay mechanics, but most of the time the games always fall back onto the genre's core style. This isn't a bad thing though. It allows the player to reminisce about all the games of this genre that have came before it."
I wasn't too hyped up about these arcade remakes but this one has got me interested, it reminds me ALOT of Under Defeat for the dreamcast which is an absolute great shooter and shows what the DC could've been. * sigh *
I remember playing the original 1942 at the arcade being a video game head in my earlier years and I loved it and i have the old Namco version gamepack and still play it time to time. This will be worth it to me to look at a different updated version to renew old feelings I guess
It´s nice to get some old classics in new suits =)
