Guerrilla Games' New Character Artist's Amazing Art Shows that They Have Great Talent for Monsters

Guerrilla Games has been hiring a lot lately, bringing new blood into the team in preparation of the launch of its new IP, and one of those new hires is the extremely talented Benjamin Erdt.
Erdt graduated at the Vancouver Film School in 2012 and almost immediately landed a job at Guerrilla as a Junior Character artist in 2013, losing the “junior” in the title definitely fast, two months ago, and looking at his art it’s not difficult to understand why.

Bring on the sci-fi game!!! So eager to see their new IP. Gamescon isn't that far off

starchild3624d ago

I'm really looking forward to seeing their new game too.

I actually really enjoyed Killzone Shadow Fall and don't understand all the hate it gets from some people. It's not the best game I've ever played, but it was fun and it looked amazing. I think Guerrilla did a really great job on the game considering it was a launch game.

I can't wait to see what they can do with a new IP. I'm glad it is supposedly a sci-fi game.

JWiLL5523624d ago

Couldn't agree more. The single player campaign wasn't the best in the series, despite having some great moments, but it was quite an accomplishment considering they were developing the game well before they even had a final devkit available.

Never thought I'd say it, but I wish it had a more "COD-like" multiplayer set up, because that lack of instant gratification with the frequent rewards and leveling seems to have hurt it's support.

Gameplay wise, it's one of the best multiplayer FPS' I've ever played...it just 'feels' fantastic. Zero autoaim and phenomenal registration with accurate hitboxes. Just extremely satisfying gunplay overall.

shivvy243624d ago

I disliked kzsf on my first playthrough, but after the second I thought it was alright.

XiSasukeUchiha3624d ago

This beauty art is what you called Sony AAA 1st party :)

HonestDragon3624d ago

I agree. Those character models look amazing! Bring on the new game!

PaleMoonDeath3624d ago

Guerrilla can design villain's damned well.

ravinash3624d ago

How do you know these arn't the good guys?

Whitefire3624d ago

These types of articles are more like fanboys rooting for their team, and showing anything about them just because they like Sony. Do we really need an article about concept art, of which we know wont be in a game at all, simply because they work for Guerrilla Games?

Bathyj3624d ago

Did you really need to come in here for no other reason than to tell us that? What do you care if someone is excited for something?

morganfell3624d ago

His work looks amazing. And seeing how it will influence Guerrilla's new IP it is definitely news.
'
@Bathyj,

Just mark his comment as OT.

Whitefire3624d ago

It never bothered me if someone is excited. I'm just saying these articles aren't really needed. They don't do much. Also don't use parts of my sentence when I literally just said it. It looks stupid.

Bathyj3624d ago

Well Im just saying your comment wasnt really needed and didnt do much.

Damn, I did it again. I AM stupid.

ravinash3624d ago

"these articles aren't really needed. They don't do much".

They show us what some of the talent that you would otherwise not see are able to do.
It would be such a shame for this work not to be seen as it's really good.

I'd much rather see this than the endless my version is better than your version items you get on here.

PaleMoonDeath3624d ago

Appreciate an artists work, either Microsoft or Nintendo could show something just as nice and be just as appreciated, show respect man.

Whitefire3624d ago (Edited 3624d ago )

I never denied they looked good, (which they do) nor am I disrespecting the person who made them. I'm talking about these types of articles. Don't paint people as disrespectful/against companies because they have an opinion.

PaleMoonDeath3624d ago (Edited 3624d ago )

@ Whitefire,

Throwing fireballs at Sony, Guerrilla games, and people who enjoy both, pretty disrespectful and out of the blue right? the sheer number of disagrees follow upon what I mean, opinions are sweet as can be, but attacking three groups of folk at once is disrespectful dude.

elninels3624d ago

I like concept art in general. If it was black tusk, or Nintendo ead (oooh boy) concept art I'd be down to see it too.

Kotaku often shares various concept art pieces from devs. Its pretty cool to see their imagination roam.

JWiLL5523624d ago

Yeah...why would a site dedicated to videogames show off the work of some of the industry's most talented artists?

Baffling!

Silly gameAr3624d ago (Edited 3624d ago )

I'm so tired of comments like yours and all of these dup accounts. If you hate to see people give props to a dev or company that you don't like, don't click on the article.

solidjun53624d ago

yep. It's funny how his account is "active" after 3 months. It's like they remembered "oh yea, I got another account."

I find it also funny he's railing against concept art related to videogames on a videogame website.

CrowbaitBob3624d ago

I remember growing up with Nintendo Power and EGM and any other video game magazines I could get my hands on. Back in those days I just loved absorbing as much gaming information as I could, including screenshots, concept art and even just text describing early concepts of potential games that may not ever see the light of day. That's what I call gaming news, and I love it.

As a gamer, this is exactly the kind of thing I want to see every day of my life, as opposed to the onslaught of crappy opinion pieces posted by internet trolls that somehow passes the review process on N4G.

This concept art is something that actually exists, was actually created by a game developer, and could inspire elements of an actual game in the future. If this isn't worthy of N4G then WTF is the point of N4G?

Guerrilla Games' Multiplayer Horizon Game Could Be Named "Hunters Gathering," Teases Leak

Guerrilla Games' upcoming multiplayer Horizon title could be dubbed "Hunters Gathering," according to a new leak.

Jin_Sakai159d ago (Edited 159d ago )

I wish PlayStation Studios would just stick to what they do best, making great single player games.

Outside_ofthe_Box158d ago

The core gameplay of Horizon is really good, so this is one of the few I can see working out. Also GG does have one of the greatest multiplayer games ever made in Killzone 2 under their belt so MP isn't too far off with what GG does best.

SyntheticForm158d ago

Hell, I enjoyed Shadowfall's MP thoroughly even though it had issues. Guerrilla have delivered solid multiplayer experiences.

Cacabunga158d ago

Oh boy. No idea why they don't want to work on a killzone it's a much more fun multi mode. -

__SteakDeck__158d ago

@Jin_Sakai First. As a business, you don’t just stick to what you do great. If that was the case, Apple would of just done computers and not taken a risk with iTunes and the iPhone. Also have you seen the cost of their AAA games like Spiderman 2? Sony is going to need one of these GAAS games to hit, or expect budget cuts to their SP games. We’re already seeing in the document leak, that they’re asking Insomniac to cut budgets.

Jin_Sakai157d ago

Their studios aren’t masters at GaaS and it’s showing. Naughty Dog wasted all that time and Resources just to cancel Factions and Insomniac's multiplayer Spider-Verse got axed. If Sony really wants a big GaaS hit their best bet would be to acquire EA or Epic Games. You need huge support to keep these games going with content and updates.

purple101159d ago (Edited 159d ago )

OHH GOD YES,, or at least some new shooter. finals was okay but I want more, spesh from 1st party

DaleCooper158d ago

Meh. You know what could be good? A new Killzone.

Magatsuhi158d ago

Hope it's not battle royale.

anast158d ago

It would be better than Monster Hunter, but I'm good with the Gaas stuff.

Up there with the top tier in the industry. Love Guerrilla Games - Horizon Burning Shores is simply STUNNING.

1Victor384d ago

Can’t wait for their next franchise

SullysCigar384d ago

Same. They nailed it with Horizon. The trouble is I also want a new Killzone! Can't I just have it all?!

jznrpg383d ago

I’m with you I want Horizon 3 , Killzone and new IPs

badz149383d ago

I have yet to play Burning Shores as I just started Forbidden West (bought at launch, just unwrapped last weekend LOL) and playing on PS5.

man...I still can't believe the graphics especially now I'm playing it on my LG OLED. that graphics and with stable performance backing it up, GG really is the master of their craft!

Vengeance1138384d ago

32.7M sales in the Horizon franchise! With 8.4M coming from Forbidden West alone! Truly a hugely successful game and franchise as a whole. Looking forward to Horizon III

Shane Kim384d ago

That's kind of a huge drop though. It's only been two games.

VersusDMC384d ago

One year after realease HZD sold 7.6 million.

https://www.noobfeed.com/ne...

So not a drop off.

Unless you're saying a HFW should have sold as much now as HZD sold in 5 years?

Vengeance1138384d ago

It's been 3 games, this includes Call of the Mountain. Also no, its a great improvement over HZD.

solideagle384d ago

lol you are comparing:

HZD: 28 February 2017 - May 2023 (6 years+)

HFW: 18 February 2022 - May 2023 (1 year+)

We will see if it surpass original number.

Phoenix76384d ago

@shane, 2 full main games, 2 DLC add ons, 1 VR spin off game, oh and a an official LEGO set.
Not too bad for an ip that's only been on market for 6 years

REDGUM383d ago

Wow, very impressive. I didn't know the numbers were so high for Forbidden West. Still playing through it myself

thesoftware730384d ago (Edited 384d ago )

Yooo, when I first saw that Killzone 1 footage at E3, my friends my brothers and I were like, Holy shit! When it came out, it didn't look exactly like it, but we sunk so many hours into 1 & 2.

I even liked Killzone: SF, it was a spectacle to look at, and even today it looks good. I hope they make a new one. Can you imagine how that will look, and they can get some modern FPS pointers from Bungie.

blacktiger383d ago

thank you fps lover, I'm with you

talocaca384d ago

Such a wonderful studio. They deserve all their success.

The Decima Engine is absolute 🔥 I'm just mad they have abandoned Killzone.

OzzY-waZZy384d ago (Edited 384d ago )

Kinda wish they move on from Horizon tbh.

potatoseal383d ago

They are probably working on mutiple projects. One of them is Horizon 3, but another is a multiplaer game and probably somehting else.

Imalwaysright383d ago

There were rumours that they were working on a Socom reboot.
