That is just plain silly... Devs have had final dev kits for X360 for almost 15 months now, while some devs have complained they haven't gotten final dev kits for PS3 before august this year.

Secondly it has been reported for all of the games you've mentioned, that lead development has been on X360 (obviously because they didn't have final dev kits for PS3).

Thirdly, don't start with the delay thing, since, as just mentioned, final dev kits weren't being shipped to the majority of developers before august this year.

The dev.s can, are, and have been working on titles LONG before dev. kits came out, they do this on a PC by using system specs and the game engine, It's easy and has been and is being done for a long time, how else do you think almost 2 years ago you saw MGS4 footage, of course which looks like crap today compared to the CGi they mostly showed back then.

So no, your wrong, developers have been working on titles for same time frames basically, especially sony duh and the R-FOM title.

So are you saying that Resistance was developed with beta dev kits. Remember, sony pushed the release of the PS3 back at least twice. I'm thinking that the PS3 dev kits were probably out months before that.

The only reason the dev kits were not called final kits is because the machine hadn't been released yet. I mean, it's not like much has changed as for as the hardware is concerned since the first promised release date of the PS3 which was spring of 06.

All I'm saying is this, don't blame the dev kits, I'm thinking that gears and resistance were both being worked on long before the x360 was released.

IBLOWPS3ALLTHEWAY, considering all of the delays and such, most of the PS3 games have been in development for the same time, making your 1st vs. 2nd gen argument a moot point.

Yeah with Resistance's beefed up PS2 graphics LOL and Gears of Wars mindblowing visuals that set the bar for any game visually. Mass Effect will take the crown from gears.

The graphics chipset in the 360 is superior, that is why there is such a tight NDA grip o the specs for the RSX, the cell processor is an AMAZING piece of technology, but not for real-time gaming. PS3 is nice, but if you want games and better looking games get the 360.

Developers will develop for the 360 more, since it can easily be ported to the PC, they can use a large majority of the 360 code on a PC, especially next-gen gpu's.

TECHNICALLY THE GPU IN THE 360 IS A GENERATION AHEAD OF THE PS3 GPU, GET OVER IT, NOTHING YOU SAY WILL CHANGE THAT. IT HAS DOUBLE THE POLY PERFORMANCE, TRIPLE THE VERTICES PERFORMANCE.

Insomaniac has been working on this title for a while. They are a premiere developer for Sony and are get special treatment from Sony. How long has Sony displayed RFOM?

The recent post about consumers thinking the PS3 is under $300 shows the lack of information in the general population.

Everyone tries to make the argument that "you can't compare two games because one is first gen and the other is second gen." Unfortunately, that is EXACTLY what most consumers walking into a store are going to do. They are going to look at GOW and look at Resistence and assume the 360 has better graphics. THe average consumer isn't going to say "but the 360 devs had more time with the final hardware." They are going to compare the games available and thats it. Period.

RFOM is old school rubbish with dude hopping on wind to get across empty levels while using goop guns that shoot bubbles. It keeps getting high score's because it reminds Sony fans of Ratchet and Clanks wacky BS. 40 players online that offers Unreal style chaos is wack. I agree nobodies going to give a sh*t about 1st vs 2nd gneration tittles. I think RFOM has to get the score's it did out of respect for Sony "sympathy points".

Didn't Sony push back the PS3 launch? Both Sony and Microsoft have been developing next-gen consoles for years. Microsoft finished their product first. Sony took a bit more time. Developers were working on computer emulators way before the systems were launched.

Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems like both companies developed their consoles over the course of a few years and developers had about the same time, working with emulators.

Furthermore, nobody said Resistance had to be available at launch! The developers could've polished up the game and released it next month or early next year. Developers can choose when to release games, if they want a superior product. That's why Gears wasn't a launch title, it wasn't polished to the amazing game it is now.

Uuuuuuuum, GOW takes around 10-12 hours to finish....I thought Resistance was supposed to have 20 gigs of storage....it was supposed to have atleast twice as much gameplay...isn't that what all the sony boys said???
Alot of sites are starting to say the AI is crappy...gametrailers has a good review on Resistance but the AI is supposed to stand around alot....just like all those videos we seen. I thought ps3 was supposed to have the best AI?

At first ps3 gamers claimed that the ps3 was light years ahead of the 360 and that their launch games would be vastly superior to the 360's second gen games. And why wouldn't they think so with all the CGI sh!t that SONY was kicking around. I pointed this out in another forum. I'm not saying that the PS3 is bad by any means, if I had the money and/or hadn't already got a 360 I would love to have one. It's just not reasonable to project the power of the PS3 as leaps and bounds beyond what Microsoft has produced.

First-gen Xbox games were obviously more advanced than second, and even third-gen (can't remember the exact dates of release) PS2 games. Sony does have a more powerful system, but I think the differences between PS3 and 360 will be less apparent than those between PS2 and Xbox, probably just based on how far the technology has come and how close we are getting to CG-quality visuals.

P.S. Gears has some of the most amazing rag doll physics I've ever seen. I still love how individual body parts have unique physics even after they've been blown off, and it's so much fun to kick a body around with such ease. What's most amazing is that the physics keep up online.

All the grapnics we see from the PS3 seem blend, less colourfull, plastic kind of graphics, PS2 like... Are you guys sure they didn't put a beefed up PS2 inside the new case? Like a supercharged Gamecube is the Wii?

@ Aass: The 360 isn't a year older. They were announced at the same time, the PS3 should have been here spring 2006 and I bet the development kits (not final hardware, but PC's that simulate the console) were out about at the same time. The 360 also got it's games made first on other hardware.

Gears of War is the game of the year. Its not fair to compare any game to it. But, Rainbow six for the 360 is better than Resistance according to IGN. And we all know Rainbow six for the 360 is better than the ps3 version.

Months ago sony fans were making outrageous claims about how ps3 game would be better than 360 games. Now, they are singing a different song. All we hear from sony fans now is excuses to why a 600 dollar console can't compare to a 400 dollar console. Every 3rd party game coming out in the same window is better on the xbox 360. I mean even Ridge Racer 6 which came out a year ago...Looks notibly better than the ps3's new Ridge Racer 7. WOW....

The funny thing is the 360 is the first game console to have 1080p as a native resolution and also the first to have 1080p games. I just bought Sonic yesterday and its native 1080p. And Splinter Cell is as well. WOW. Thanks Microsoft.

Strange you say Gears of War is the 360's first hit. Call of Duty 2 has recieved higher ratings across the board than Resistance and it came out at launch for the 360 buddy. And there have been 19 games for the 360 over the last year that have recieved the EDITORS CHOICE award from IGN buddy. There are several games out for the 360 that have rated higher than Resistance.

Tell me again sony fanboys why 360 3rd party games across the board are better than the ps3 counterparts...I love hearing your excuses....And while your at it tell me why there have been games out for the 360 over the last year that have scored higher than Resistance which is SONY's flagship title that was suppose to show off what the ps3 can do. WOW....

And for those that say Call of Duty 3 got lower scores than Call of Duty 2. Well if you read the IGN mailbag you will see that they clearly say that Call of Duty 3 is better than Call of Duty 2...they just hold it to a new standard now that Gears of War is out. And also that there wasn't leaps over the previous Call of Duty 2....But clearly Call of Duty 3 is better.

Call of Duty was the 360's first big game, but it was just as good (or better as some people claim) on the PC. Same with Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion. Better graphics and more customization on the PC version. There's been a few good titles, but Gears is the system's first killer-app. Sure, it took a year, but at least the system has one.

Kinda cool that PS3 owners get to chance to play a killer-app on day one. They deserve to considering how long the wait has been.

Being more of a sony guy, I agree with most of the xbox fans in here. Not going to pay 600 dollars right now when the lineup is absolute crap, sure, in the near future once the released games get better, then compare but for now, I'm enjoying my 360 and GOW because it is what it is, absolutely beautiful... as for RFOM... no so or even close, looks like a cheap first person shooter and chances are, I'd never play it. Not saying ps3 is bad by any means as we will, for sure get our socks knocked off but just not today, or this year.

They will do anything if not everything to keep another system in the game. How could they give sony a point for "story line", why not give them a point for the bullets hanging in mid-air. Give them a point for the less noise the drive makes, oh yeah and how about the finger prints on the PS3 when you touch it, the 360 can't do that. You know the funny thing is RFOM is a launch titles to be fair lets compare resistants to Perfect Dark they are both launch titles.

I think it shows the strength of not only the PS3 but also insomniac that a launch game is being compared to the best second Gen game the X360 has.

But as i said i bet if we looked at it more realistically and pit Perfect dark 0 with RFOM the Xbox360 camp would get a better graps of the scope of things to come.

I said it earlier: First gen Xbox games were significantly more impressive than 2nd/3rd gen PS2 games, not so when comparing PS3 and 360. Also, the main thing that held back the PS3 launch were blue ray lasers, the cell/rsx have been set for quite a while. Regardless of when studios got their dev kits, these games have been in development for a long time because they originally planned to launch close to a year ago and kept getting delayed.

The big difference is the fact that Cell's speed was raised by 50%, developers finally got their hands on the RSX GPU, and the FlexI/O connection was put in. FlexI/O is VITAL because it allows the RSX to access XDR RAM at 15GB/s, or have data copied over to the RSX memory at 20GB/s.

But PS3 alpha kits were released about two months before E3 2005. The project was started while they were still working on Gamecube hardware(as early photos in EGM show), but once they saw what Nintendo was planning to do (minimal power increase) they jumped ship. Nintendo also refused to fund such a huge project and wanted to put a 2~4 million dollar limit on next-gen game projects.

Lair is projected to cost over $20 million. Factor5 asked Sony for help, and in return Sony told them to stay true to their vision. PS3 offers the most power out of any next-gen system, so it's only fitting that the company would want to develop on it.

Just because Sony has a close relationship with a developer does not mean that they're under direct control. Factor 5 and Insomniac are both 3rd party devs, but with 2nd party benefits. In fact, Insomniac doesn't even have a contract to work strictly with Sony. But they choose to and even Ted Price has stated that he likes the way their relationship is set up. Instead of legal entaglements, they have trust instead. It just depends on the needs of different developers.

So overall GOW beats RFOM, but this is mainly due to graphics and sound. When it comes to gameplay it's not better and when it comes to lasting appeal it get's blown away. What's more important to you, better graphics or higher lasting appeal, you decide.
COD2 was by no means a killer app and nowadays this game wouldn't even come close to a nine. Same goes for the other titles(well maybe except Oblivion), they were only rated that high, cause there were no competition and as you said yourself they were rated by the old standard.
The answer for your question why many 360 3rd party games across the board are better than the ps3 counterparts is simple. It has been already stated thousands times and you MS fanboys just don't get it. It's not an excuse, it's a simple fact that the devs have no experience working with the PS3 and also got the final kits just a few months ago. This are 3rd party devs without the support that for example MotorStorm or RFOM devs get. For a better comparison of the 3rd party games we must wait until the devs have some experience and even that won't be a real comparison. Many studios go the easy and cheap route(can't blame them for that) and develope for 1 platform and then port it to the others. This gen they developed for the 360 and ported it to PS3 and this can't go flawlessly. The PS3 hardware is just too different from the 360/PC hardware. Maybe in the later gens they will develope for the PS3 from the scratch, but even if they don't, the end result will be cause of the experience much better.
The real comparison can be only made between 1st party games, cause only with such games you can be sure that they are taking the advantages of given hardware. And there is difference in 360 and PS3 1st party games. While RFOM beats any 360 game when it comes to objects, action on screen and physics, MotorStorm does the same when it comes to visuals and physics.

gnothe1 - You must be kidding, you can't emulate the PS3 with a powerful PC. When it comes to power they are maybe comparable, but they work much different. Fact is Cell works way different then PC CPUs and fact is beta kits were way different then final kits. No RSX and downgraded Cell.

You know I'm going to give you my opinion since I do own the 360 and the Ps3. But, I have already seen the launch games in action. Resistance looks simular to Call of duty 2 from a year ago on the 360. People who haven't seen 360 games in action and are making the step from a ps2...will be very pleased. But anyone who has played a cutting edge computer or a 360 will be very dissappointed. But, hopefully there will be better games to come. But, the graphics on ALL the launch games aren't as good as most of the 360 titles already out now.

Only 1 first party game got a good review. The other two launch PREMIER titles recieved 6's folks. WOW. Could this be the worst launch in histroy?

Don``t buy from game of any high street gameshops. Morrisons do all new releases at 39.99. Oh and did i say i played the 1st 5 mins and man, the gfx are THE 1st gfx ive seen that say next gen has arrived, on any system! i thought SCDA looked very nice, but this i think is proof of what is possible on next gen! gameplay aint to shabby either!!! me and a friend will defo be going the co-op route!! Admitted I really haven't managed to read all the comments here so if I make a point that someone else has already made please excuse.

It definately comes down to personal preference. For example, for me the story is a big factor in a game so the fact Resistance scores well here is a big plus in my little world. The b-movie dialogue and direction in GOW would really annoy the hell out of me. I don't think it would even pull off the budget cheesy b-movie horror feel that Resident Evil 1 had (and we all loved!).

So in summary I would say that Resistance is more of the thinking mans shooter while Gears is more of a smash 'em and bash 'em type. This is for the single player. The players make the online play what it is so the Gears tactical element might be more fun there.

So, GoW comes out slightly ahead of Resistance, most likley because "newish" duck and cover gameplay to give players something a little fresh. But, at least PS3 has a worthwhile exclusive launch title, which is something X-Box 360 did not have.

PS- As a PC gamer first and foremost the only good choice for a console is the PS3, because everthing on the X-Box comes to PC anyway including HALO and GOW(saw it on Games for Windows Kiosk ad)

Okay, if your logic is going to be that we are rating a 1st gen PS3 game vs a 2nd Gen xbox 360 game.......I think logically as a gamer, I would rather purchase a 360 and play the better games now, and hold off on a $600 system until they get up to par. I have my PS3 and Resistance is not even up to first gen on Xbox 360. 40 person multi-player is ridiculous. Hey, I was impressed with the lag-freeness, but it was not fun. Gears chainsaws this game in half. There are little-to-no textures. The AI is crap. Remember those individual moving leaves we would see in PS3 games? Not so much. I am pissed that I opened the box and that I didn't sell this thing.

I cannot believe I have to wait until the middle of next year to get one decent game.

I've through most of gears and i've just checked out the resistance hd trailer at gametrailers and to give it a nine is having a laugh, the graphics are two years behind and the animation is crap. Gears is light years ahead! as for ridge racer 7 alright if you like driving hovercrafts. Fairplay to any ps3 owner who can honestly say from what they've seen playing on the ps3, can accept that it's crap. PS3 owners, play Gears for two minutes and then tell me you think Resistance is anywhere near as good.

The story of a game has always been important to me. It draws you in to it's world, and gives your characters motivation. According to Gamepro the story in GOW is all over the place and you never really understand what's going on. Resistance has a better story that's more like a mystery thriller sci-fi. That makes it the one for me. You can keep your special effects. Special effects never made a movie great it was the story and they're not the most important thing in a game either. Plus it has cooler weapons, something you do need for a shooter.

In fact, R-FOM isn't great to play, I thought the single player was ps2ish and the character I watched was turning around and another player walked through him, just like in poorly done ps2 games, it was sad to see. I must admit, Gears is much more exciting and more fun to play (At least for me it was.)

I played resistance with a friend in multiplayer mode today and although it was fast action, it kinda felt a bit hecktic, and out of control. Not much strategy, because people were spawning in everywhere and you couldn't go 60 seconds without be killed by someone that either spawned up behind you, or what you spawn up next to.

I personally prefer less people, so that my kills actually mean something to me. Hell I got at least 10 kills simply because some poor guy spawned into my area and didn't see me.

It was fun though, I just liked gears better. XPLAY rated both game a 5, however, I think they need to go to a .5 system, because these two games are NOT equal.

Resistance coould be alot better than i thought it could. I really thought this game could use duck and cover.(I dunno why i like that sh1t now? i guess cause it a lot gunfire coming at you hmmmmmmmm.)It is some action going on that if you Finesse Halo on Legendary you should get through and end this game quickly. Dailogue is Decent and the onlne mode would be good if you can find anybody to fill up the 40 man battle with a decent connection now.It a basic frag fest with no skill whatsoever. Graphics are not up too a Call of Duty 2 standards i fell it a little bit below. After Watching and playing Gears Resistance maps feel a little underdeveloped and slightly grainy. IF Resistance is in Old school destroyed city it still lack detail like COD2 Destroyed German turn.Also they still lack the Creepy feel like Gears have with the dark Colors and theme. Now if anything i Would give it the grade it got only compared to what the PS3 have to offer but the guns feels plains and the Animations on special effects look bogus and underdeveloped also.(Teh explosion are weak looking and the Gun that fires through walls look terrible once it come through on the other side while the shield for it looks like a Flat dry honeycomb.) Now i don't need to talk about Gears since a lot of people play it and seen but the Story doe'snt Reveal a lot about Marcus fenix's past (Which reeks of a sequel at the end.) but tell from the Family's Estate when you do that chapter he's rich and his father probably funded underground experimentations that lead to the Locust Horde. The Dailogue the Dom Say Sup B1tches is the Illest cause it a battle cry after he Kills multiple enemies. Just Like How it sound so Fuking Cool when Marcus kills a Electro Wretch the tries to Sneak up behind a open door in the Mines and Say a slow Fuk you after you kill the Wretch. I love my science fiction. And straight away I like Resistance over Call of Duty, because of that. How many World War games are there, tons. I commend Insomaniac for creating a different twist in the genre. It's very much like Outer Limits, where anything could happen, and does. 90% of the comments about GOW, is how great it looks. That's fine. But the story is crap, the weapons are unoriginal, it adds nothing new, it's much shorter and you don't get 40 players online(quoting Gamepro). It's Unreal 2 with better graphics. Resistance has better story, original weapons, much longer campaign, more fun and 40 players online. Uxo22 said he prefers less people because he keeps getting killed. Maybe you just suck at FPS. But that is what war is all about. The first thing you see in a game is the graphics. But you shouldn't judge a book just by it's cover. A good game is the sum of all it's parts. And it isn't just Sony fans saying it's good, it's every gamesite around.
