Rating Xbox One’s Games with Gold: June

IM PLAYIN looks at the two free games on the Xbox One this month

"As the Xbox One has finally got round to giving us players who bought into microsoft’s next gen offering early what we’d paid for, I thought I’d check out the first two games that they’ve given us to hopefully hook us as well as give us hope for the future. The two games, Max: The Curse of Brotherhood and Halo: Spartan Assault, are hardly the big treat we’d hoped for in terms of length or full game or a launch title. Max: The Curse of Brotherhood, was a huge surprise for me. One I really enjoyed playing … so much so that both I and my other half were addicted. Here’s what she thought about it."

Max was excellent, loved the creative gameplay and level design.

Halo was meh, it felt like a cheap mobile top-down shooter. Wasn't what i was expecting.

Halo was fun for about five minutes, but it quickly got old. I'd purchased Max a long time ago, so I was very pleased for other people that didn't purchase it when it came out, for them to get the opportunity to play it.

i kinda enjoyed Max but honestly the gameplay was suited for tablet gaming and the story... well its pretty much a copy/pasta from the movie Labyrinth.

a good 6.5/10

LOL! Halo Spartan was mobile shooter first

Max is soooooo good. I really like how the puzzles get twitchy towards the end.

I really enjoyed the trial and error of the gameplay mechanics. There was one section i remember, where you had to create a boat/raft from a branch, but you had to draw it in such a way as to stay on it as it went over a waterfall, because if you fell i the water, you died.

Took me around 15 tries, lol. I did it when i curved the front of the raft upwards so i didn't fly off the front.

Just started playing MAX after beating strider, what an adorable little game..

Max had the 'WoW, this shit is really good!!' effect.... awesome stuff...

Max gameplay isn't that interesting to me, but the presentation is surpringly great.

As I said in a comment t'other day, it is my 5 year old's favourite film despite not being a film.

Spartan Assault on the other hand, that is so limited and poor. And that's without factoring in the micro-transactions. So let's call it "awful".

I've only played a bit of Max, but so far, it's quite a cool game. Really liking the drawing mechanic.

Haven't played Spartan Assault yet. I'm not really a fan of Halo at all, but I do enjoy top-down shooters.

Personally I loved both. Spartan Assault takes a while to get going, but the last three levels are so fun. Definitely the best top down shooter I have played, although that isn't saying much :D.

As for Max, it is one of my favorite games period. I just love it. The level with the cage is arguably my favorite physics based platforming experience ever.

I would give Spartan Assault a 7.5 and I would give Max a 9. As free games, no way anyone should pass them up.

Dewitt3613d ago

Max was a 9 for me as well, the physics and creativity felt very next gen, these 2d games are knocking it out the park so far this gen. Child of Light, Max, Ori and the Blind Forest. Bring on more MS.

So, that's that, then? We're fine with people making up fake sales that are Amazon price matching PSN and XBL every single week? I think I'm done with N4G.

Eidolon2161d ago

Been going on for over a year from the first time i've been seeing em, it pisses me off too that admins allow this to keep going on
