Why Hideki Kamiya Hates the Bayonetta 2 Wii U Box

Okay, let's be clear. The guy is happy with the character design. And the character's pose. And the outfit. But there are a couple things that are ticking Bayonetta creator Hideki Kamiya off.

Snookies123633d ago

Oh, the guy is raging about something again? What else is new?

Concertoine3633d ago (Edited 3633d ago )

Yeah, he should shut up and take it. That's what real men that are passionate about their line of work would do.

MeteorPanda3633d ago

you even read? as an artist there's nothing worse then submitting a design, getting an approval and then waiting to see it all finished and....it's not what you made, without permission they've 'tweaked' (in this case for the shitter) and you're suggesting he be anything else but mad?

ChickeyCantor3632d ago

It's indeed a shitty thing to do. At the same time I think the yellow draws more attention. I think that's why they changed it.

But yes they should definitely let the producers in on it.

3-4-53633d ago

Imagine if people started "altering" or "tweaking" some of the most famous works of ART ever created.

NOW think about how stupid that sounds and about how annoyed people like the great renaissance era artists would be.

Sly-Lupin3632d ago

Countless fig leaves say hello.

MrSwankSinatra3633d ago

This guy had the privilege of making a second bayonetta with the help of nintendo and he has the audacity to cry about something so minuscule as the damn boxart?

Rikitatsu3633d ago

He's not the one making it, he's just supervising.
That's like Miyazaki's role in Dark Souls 2.

TheDevil15inallofus3633d ago

SwankSinatra, you are clearly not an artist. When it's YOUR vision, you don't want people going and changing it; especially without permission! Hopefully Nintendo or whoever will own up to their mistake and go back to the original design.

MrSwankSinatra3633d ago

A different shaped moon & a red number. Yeah some GRAND vision. Get real man......

Mikefizzled3633d ago

This is the exact same situation as Ken Levine and Bioshock Infinite. He said he thought the box art was awful and bland. But because he hadn't delivered on budget and timescales he lost the ability to choose and it was instead given to marketing people.

kopicha3633d ago

@swank

"A different shaped moon & a red number. Yeah some GRAND vision. Get real man......"

this statement alone shows you know nothing about art. and if that is the case. just shut up instead of making stupid comments.

MeLoveRamen3633d ago

Nintendo funded the game so at the end of the day he as no say in it and should be happy that the game at least got made.

bobacdigital3633d ago

True. . That is why they included Bayonetta 2 with it .. two games for the price of one.

OldDude3633d ago

Actually it IS Bayonetta 2, they included B1 with it as a bonus. I will be buying day one.

mt3633d ago

I expect it to score high by critics, and to sink down the ocean in terms of sales.

I could be wrong though.

Dunban673632d ago

Hopefully Nintendo will give at least some kind of effort to market it- Wonderful 101 would have done much better w decent marketing - I think they missed an opp there - but w the Wii u selling so poorly they just don't want to invest the money- it's almost as if Nintendo everyone else to invest in the console, (including 3rd parties) 1st, then after they started making money they would invest in the platform-

Dunban673632d ago

I do need to add that Bayonetta 1 being included w Bayonetta 2 is one of the more classy things Nintendo has done for current and future Wii u owners -

As a single home console household ( wiii u), it will be nice to get a complete series- only being able to play Mass Effect 3, getting cut short on the next Batman ( after buying Arkham City and. Origins) , Darksiders 2 but not 1, ACIII and AC IV but possibly no more - it is nice to know up front I'll be able to get both in the same package - I really hope it sells well - thier games are always excellent

rextraordinaire3633d ago

Overall the changes are pretty minor...

LightofDarkness3633d ago (Edited 3633d ago )

Yeah, all of the subtlety has been removed. I can see why they changed the 2 to red though, they needed to bring in the red from the "Free Bayonetta Included" somehow to make it all tie together. The moon then had to become the contrast to the overall blue tone as the 2 was no longer the orange it originally was. They probably could've done this much better, but I can see the bare logic of what they did and why.

Hideki Kamiya On Why He Left PlatinumGames, His YouTube Channel, and His Next Game

In a wide-ranging interview with IGN, game developer legend Hideki Kamiya reveals why he left Bayonetta maker PlatinumGames and what's next.

darthv72158d ago

Long shot here but with him out of the picture... MS could get PG to finish Scalebound. As it is, the project was shelved and Ms still had all the work they had done up to that point. HK's mismanagement of multiple projects is what caused MS to pull the plug, but I feel they still wanted to get it done at some point.

gold_drake157d ago

if MS hasnt picked it up yet,it will never return. it was cancelled in 2017. 6 years ago.

MS owns the IP, not PlatinumGames.

Cacabunga157d ago

I have been waiting for a new Vanquish for a long time!! I barely imagine how the result could be on PS5

isarai158d ago

Sounds like Tencent influence was something he wasn't down with.

Levii_92158d ago

Sorry, you have been blocked by Hideki Kamiya. ❌

Zenzuu158d ago

“My work with Platinum Games was based on a relationship of trust with the company. I decided to leave because I felt that the direction the company was heading in was different from my beliefs as a developer. Without that element of trust, I couldn’t continue working there, and so I left, so that I could continue working in what I consider to be the right way.

“I don't think of games as products, but rather as works of art. I want to put my artistry into games and deliver games that could only be made by Hideki Kamiya, so that players can enjoy Hideki Kamiya games exactly as they are. I decided to leave the company and forge my own path, to continue making games that reflect the developers who made them.”

Hideki Kamiya Would Like to Make New Viewtiful Joe and Okami Games, Comments on Bayonetta's Future

Legendary developer Hideki Kamiya said that he'd like to make new Viewtiful Joe and Okami games with Capcom, he commented on the future of Bayonetta and on the possibility of collaborating with other creators like Tomonobu Itagaki.

XiNatsuDragnel180d ago

I hope he makes new ip in the future

lucian229179d ago

please no more viewtiful joe; game was cool the first time but i really dislike the whole look and attitude of it.

either make a new okami or a new ip

PRIMORDUS179d ago

I want a new Viewtiful Joe as well, and also Viewtiful Joe 1 and 2 remade from the ground up for Switch. 😎

lucian229179d ago

pretty sure the visuals would have to be turned down; switch isnt strong enough to handle ps2 games

shadowknight203179d ago (Edited 179d ago )

Comedy at its finest. Upvote from me. Bought a switch twice, it's fun, but man, I always forget how Nintendo does things differently, I don't necessarily hate on it, but u gotta really stick with first party titles to enjoy there systems. And that wasn't always the case for them. Once upon a time.

FinalFantasyFanatic179d ago

@Shadowknight203,

The Switch's first party titles amaze me, you can get games that look and run that well on such old tech, but it's hopeless for AAA third parties, It makes games like BoTW/ToTK look like miracles.

shadowknight203178d ago

@fanatic
It goes to show, maybe I don't know anything, but I feel Nintendo might have there own engine for there studios? Something that works hand in hand with there hardware. I don't know I don't read up on the tech side of Nintendo developers

FinalFantasyFanatic178d ago

@ShadowKnight203,

I know the physics engine they built for Zelda is pretty nuts to the point that most developers don't understand how it was possible to run something so complex on the Switch. But I also feel like Nintendo optimises their games like crazy, if you look at any game development documentaries on Youtube, you'll see that they optimise heavily for the hardware they have available.

fsfsxii179d ago

i hope he quits the bs of cramming minigames in his games that deter replay value and distract from the main course

shadowknight203179d ago

But everyone loves playing sub games inside of games, hell maybe he can incorporate mini games inside of mini games, he could create the next big gimmick like quick time events were

Hideki Kamiya will be leaving PlatinumGames on October 12, 2023

Hideki Kamiya will be leaving PlatinumGames on October 12, 2023.

-Mika-239d ago

Phil better have that check ready. Hideki expertise and knowledge would be a great asset to the Xbox team and can possibly bring growth in the Asia region.

VersusDMC239d ago

Phil already canceled a Kamiya game(Scalebound) so we know he doesn't have the check ready. And that check couldn't keep Shinji Mikami there either...but maybe?

CrimsonWing69239d ago

I’m still bitter about that cancellation. Even if it was in dev hell he could’ve given it to an internal studio.

Obscure_Observer239d ago

@CrimsonWing69

"I’m still bitter about that cancellation. Even if it was in dev hell he could’ve given it to an internal studio."

Are you crazy???

That would be extremely disrespectful!

Michiel1989239d ago

@obscure as if one of ms's own studios would know how to get the game out the door in a great way. Remember what happened when they did that with Duke Nukem Forever?

20nmrtnz239d ago

Tencent and Netease around the corner: Bonjour!

AdonisIsBeast239d ago (Edited 239d ago )

Was the 69 billion dollar acquisition plus 8 billion for Zenimax not enough lol?

-Foxtrot239d ago

How sudden, I wonder what changed.

Maybe after the certain story choices and direction for Bayonetta 3 they can hopefully make it more like the first two games.

justsomeoffdude239d ago

i've always felt platinum games lack of growth/failures can be traced back to kamiya. He seems like a very troublesome person to work with
