With the campaign surrounding this game so far, they have proven one thing. They know exactly how to waste $500 million

mafiahajeri3626d ago

Its a teaser calm your tits, this game will sell. Also I'm sure it will be good since they actually have the confidence to release an open beta.

Also it's Bungie so that's always a +

alexkoepp3626d ago (Edited 3626d ago )

Bungie managed to stink Halo up with ODST and Reach, and getting rid of O'Donnell. Bungie doesn't necessarily mean quality anymore, we'll have to wait and see. The latest batch of gameplay videos though have been pretty lame, and make the game look like a snoozefest.

KingDustero3626d ago

@alexkoepp

The reason ODST and Reach are arguably the worst Halo games is because they were solely made to complete their contract with M$ (five games in ten years). By the time Reach was in development a lot of the study was either working on/wanting to work on Destiny. They would have ended at Halo 3 if they didn't need to make two more games to fulfill their contract. Even with them being the worst Halos were still better than a lot of shitty Fps's made the past couple years. I absolutely hate Reach, but still respect Bungie and know they'll deliver something amazing with Destiny.

All these people talking shit need to shut up. We've seen barely anything of the game. Plus it ins't something that is easy to show. An MMORPGFPS is something that just needs to be experienced and if done right can easily become the WoW of shooters. Bungie isn't a one trick pony. They'll manage to create something even more successful than Halo.

@mafia It has been a year, the game releases in a few months and has almost no hype or build up since e3 last year... not to mention the fact you think showing up at E3 like every other developer is somehow a good marketing campaign worth that kind of money is absolutely ridiculous.

@mystic I am aware, doesn't change that with that size budget your marketing shouldn't be nonexistent and lacking inspiration.

MysticStrummer3626d ago

The $500 million wasn't for a single game.

KnightRobby3626d ago

I think this game is going to be much like any open world game. It's going to be about the experience of exploring unknown lands.

Except in this case, you can do it with a bunch of friends :) I can't wait to see the other planets at this point.

Ipunchbabiesforfun3626d ago

Gives a new meaning to the term, "short" lol. I expected more than 16 seconds...

Jughead34163626d ago

Does the word "teaser" mean anything to you? Be worried if this was their actual E3 presentation. Lol.

Anyway, I'm so geeked for this game. My most anticipated game since GOW Ascension. Can't wait.

Ipunchbabiesforfun3626d ago

You took that way too literally...I was just joking around. I don't think I've seen a "teaser" this short, ever.

Jughead34163626d ago

Ipunchbabiesforfun.........My bad. Didn't catch the sarcasm.

Ipunchbabiesforfun3626d ago

it's all good haha, I'm always sarcastic. I just clicked and laughed at how short it was.

thund3rguy3626d ago

This game is going to be amazing

My_Name_BTW_Is_Dante3626d ago

So what, it's just a Borderlands clone with no competitive multiplayer?

Jughead34163626d ago (Edited 3626d ago )

Where'd you get your info from on no competitive multiplayer? That's what their E3 reveal will be about tomorrow. Borderlands clone? How? Because of the thousands of guns? I don't think I've ever played or heard of a post apocalyptic open world solar system FPS/RPG/MMO with alien enemies. Bungie has stated that this game will be unique, and I believe them. Not a Halo or Borderlands clone.

LAWSON723626d ago (Edited 3626d ago )

Destiny has competitive multiplayer, it has been confirmed many times and the devs have mentioned it in a vidoc(s?).

JMyers3626d ago

I'm looking forward to this game. The sheer size and what they're trying to do alone has made me pre order. Not to mention the pedigree

Destiny Made Over $160 Million In Microtransaction Revenue In Less Than 2 Years

Destiny has made over $160 million in MTX revenue, and these numbers only account the data from late 2017 to early 2019.

Sgt_Slaughter350d ago

That's extremely low for microtransactions, especially for a game that's essentially designed around it

LucasRuinedChildhood350d ago (Edited 350d ago )

This was back when the game wasn't free to play.

The figures are from November 2017 to February 2019 (1 year and 4 months).

Based on that projection, the MTX revenue for Destiny 2 likely would have been closer to ~$240m for 2 years.

Not sure if premium expansions are included in that figure either although ... I'd hope that they are though and that most of the revenue was for actual content like Forsaken.

People spend way too much money on cosmetics.

Rude-ro349d ago (Edited 349d ago )

Seasons($10 and just got bumped to $12) and dungeon keys($10 each, two a year) are through the eververse(micro transaction) store.
So for those two years, in order to play a season, you would pay through micro transactions.

Sonic1881349d ago (Edited 349d ago )

Bungie Marathon will be worse since it's designed around it as well

Kurt Russell349d ago

It makes me sad to agree... but at the same time I am looking forward to giving it a go. Destiny 2 is so far in, I find it difficult to figure out what I am meant to do first.

buffig349d ago

I think FIFA alone makes over $1bn a year from mtx

anast349d ago

FIFA promotes a worldwide sport. It should make more money than destiny.

CantThinkOfAUsername349d ago (Edited 349d ago )

Let's compare something similar. Apex Legends and its ridiculous $18/$40 skins make EA a billion each year.

z2g349d ago

For as much as ppl complain how much they hate microtransactions, they sure don’t act like it. No wonder they aren’t going anywhere.

spicelicka349d ago

By "people" you're referring to millions and millions of people. Obviously the ones complaining aren't necessarily the same as the ones spending all that money.

There's millions that purchase MTX and there's nothing we can do about it

I've been thinking about playing through D1 again before it goes away...

CobraKai500d ago

That’s the sad reality of a game like this. I bought it, invested lots of money, and it can go away at anytime. I still think this was more fun than 2.

jeromeface499d ago

prob because 2 is a grindfest slog

spoonard497d ago

That's the bummer of 'games as a service'.
