Resistance 2 and Gears of War 2 square off this Nov.

The rival exclusives, shimmering mascots to their respective platform, SCEA / Insomniac's Resistance 2 for PlayStation 3 and Microsoft / Epic Games' Gears of War 2 for the Xbox 360. With nothing yet confirmed, we can only speculate that according to recent rumors, Resistance 2 and Gears of War 2 will be releasing within a week or so of each other. This will pit these two monster exclusives head-to-head.

I will be doing just the oppisite. I will definately be getting both, but I will be playing Gears a lot more than Resistance especailly the multiplayer. Not that I know one will be bettere than the other, it just the way I play them now to. It could change a little, mainly if PSN gets more user friendly invites, budyy tracking, in game XMB, etc. I know I have heard rmors bouth it coming, but I will wait until it happens (crossing fingers). Yeah, if you look at the history of the first two titles, they were released within a week of each other. It's really up to console owners which is better, as the received high remarks from many publications.

I think though from what I have read Resistance 2 has the upper hand. Bigger battles, TWO campaigns, probably the use of PlayStation Home, and more.

A LOT depends on PS3 momentum at the time. PS3 owners will buy R2, 360 owners will buy gears and dual owners will play both. R2 is packing a bigger punch in terms of content but gears was still (in my eyes) the first Next gen game (well more like the 2nd GRAW was 1st). It will be a tough battle and i wish both epic and insomniac all the success in the world it would be crazy to have 2 5million + selling games on opposing systems during the holidays.

If i had to chose between the 2, i honestly can't decide. If it had to boil down to it, i would have to go with reviews but i plan on getting both.

@NoUseMerc - Agreed, it will be subjective which is better, but who cares. All I care about is playing them both, I will let the fanboys, fiht that battle. I do have to disagree (without actually giving one). I do not no the term using PS Home is going to be that diffrent from using what is currently already on XBL. If you want you prefer to play 30 on 30, cool, but some may prefer a smaller scale battle. Two campains is cool though. Thats mainly what I will use Resistance for is the Campaign.

lol but how can i review it if i don't pick one and play it. I run with metacritic and ign reviews so depends mostly on that. I didn't like the multiplayer in Gears 1 or Resistance 1. R1 had a better story but G1 had better gameplay. R1 is stepping up and so is G1. All i know is both should be incredible games and as of now its impossible for me to choose. If it had to boil down to it, it would be reviews or the game most of my friends are getting.

What I mean, one should not judge a game soley on reviews. If a game recieves low reviews and you buy and love the hell out of the game, geuss what your review was the only one that counts. You do not have to have a game in advance to review it. you cn get a gae that is two years old and if it is the first time playing it, then you get an opinion after you play, thats your review.

I look at the reviews to watch for consistancy or the lack there of.

I don't listen to reviews alone but the games i like have a strong correlation with high scores so i use reviews as a guide line. I really wish I had 360, so I could play Gears 2, but sadly I don't have one.

I'm going to enjoy RS2 for sure, because I really enjoyed the first even though it lacked the visuals I was expecting, but gameplay and guns creativity were top notch.

Knowing Insomniac and seeing R&C with their new engine, I know RS2 will look great and will have the graphics I'm expecting this time around. We all know that guns and gameplay will still be awesome.

As for Gears 2, even though it doesn't look way better than the first "visually", it doesn't really matters because the first looks great even today, so as a gamer it would be awesome to enjoy Gears 2 and all of its improvements.

Fanboy wars and fun aside, I hope I can get a 360 later on, if they can keep some more exclusives, umm well exclusive(no pun intended).

Resistance:FoM was created w/ ps2 graphics tools. If you beat R&C the 2nd time around and get enough skill points, you learn that R:FoM was created w/ ps2 graphic toolset and they had to strip the Tools for R&C to there very core and rework 'em.

Someone explain to me where this rivalry came from? As far as i can tell, we have 2 sequels here. On the one hand we have a sequel to a game that was a mediocre FPS at best...there was absolutely no innovation, not amazing graphics, just an okay shooter that launched with the PS3. On the other hand there's a sequel to a Third Person Shooter that has set records, has stolen fans from FPS (which is the dominant genre), and has more people playing it each week, even now, than ppl have played Resistance 1 total.

Now, i realize we live in a day and age where every game that costs a lot gets hyped like crazy. But only one of these titles is actually worthy of it. and to be honest, i don't even really like Gears, but i mean...come on. this isn't even a competition. Resistance 2, even if it's the best selling game on ps3, will probably move a total for 1-2 million copies, whereas GoW 2 will probably sell 5 million the first week.

when talking about "monsters" battling each other, it would be a much better comparison to talk about Gow 2 and halo or GTA. cuz those are the kind of numbers we're talking about with Gears.

The truth is we don't know what's going to happen in terms of quality...but in terms of numbers...These 2 games aren't even in the same league (based on the originals).

The facts are this...GoW is regarded as one of the best games of the generation, it sold way better than resistance, it actually did have innovative new ideas, and more ppl still play it now than anyone ever played resistance. That's not my opinion...you can look up the weekly played reports.

Resistance (just like many other PS3 titles that were hyped as the best games ever) fell way short of the bar. Every PS3 owner i know even admitted that it was a lack-luster game that was trying too hard to be like halo. I sat down and played it...and low n behold...it was BORING...really boring and nothing new. But back to the facts, it didn't sell that great, nobody praised it for being anything special, and i doubt more than a hand full of PS3 owners still play this game.

so the FACT is, we have a sequel to a title that few ppl care about VS a sequel to a title that set records.

this won't be a competition anyway, cuz PS3 players can't have Gears, and 360 players can't have Resistance. But when the numbers come out, it will not be close...not even kind of close. Even if resistance is the better game (which is highly unlikely), it still won't be able to touch it in sales.

i'd also just like to throw this out there (and i know i'll get a bunch of negatives), the only reason why hype builds around these PS3 games is because the fanboys have no current great games to play. So every announcement of a new game, you guys get all charged up and excited like a dog who knows it's about to get a great meal. And when that meal is served, it turns out to be a really lousy dinner...but, just like a dog, you forgot by the next meal how crappy the last one was. So you find out you're about to get another meal, and you get so excited ("OMG, this is going to be the best dinner EVER!!!"), then it comes...more dog food.

game after game has come up for PS3 that has been "the best next thing." and yet, after it comes out, nobody talks about it.

when xbox 360 fanboys brag about their system...at least they use actual existing titles that have already been released, got great scores, and now tons of people play. when ps3 fanboys brag about their system...it's ALWAYS about the titles that are coming, not the ones they already have.

However I don't expect Resistance 2 to match up very well to Gears of War II. Look at sales data for GOW. It has reached over 4 million copies sold. Look at Resistance...over 3 million. You could take into account size of console base...and yada yada. This fact is nullified on account of how quickly GOW hit triple platinum. Everyone knows both are going to be great games, but GOWII will have much more marketing muscle. I wouldn't expect Halo levels of hype, but considering how well GOWI sold, it should match or exceed sales. I'm not going to come out and say: "GOWII rocks harder" or "Resistance 2 is more awesome," to prove one will sell more (neither statements hold up well in debate). I'm stating what I think is obvious. Larger install base (Xbox 360), larger marketing budget (M-soft), and greater mass appeal will push Gears of War II over Resistance II. This doesn't even take into consideration an Xbox 360 price cut, which will happen this summer/fall. I've said it time and time again, Xbox 360 sales are soft and a price cut is needed. It will happen. For all the fanboy's screaming bloody murder at my brazen predictions/statements take solace that both games will be great... and the world isn't coming to an end like in both of these games come fall.

Will play Resistance for months after I trade in Gears 2. I love Gears for the co-op and decent single player but the MP was no fun for me. Resistance was a blast in both single player and online MP. I am sure that with what has been said of both games to come, the play time I spend on them will be reminiscent of the first copies.

a much bigger fan base. Marcus Fenix is now a known character/symbol for 360 along with MS "Halo3-like" mega-hype for the holidays. It's the game all the kids are going to want for xmas.

The multi-player is very different, I prefer GeOW2 because its unique and very addicting. ReFOM seems like another Halo, COD4, or Frontlines.

The story of GeOW was not interesting, so here's hoping all the hype about making the story better works out, because the story for ReFOM was better than Gears. fact.
